Abstract

Women’s struggles against patriarchy remain a crucial subject in feminist and postcolonial scholarship, yet limited attention has been given to how cinema contributes to theorizing subaltern subjectivity. This study addresses the gap by analyzing North Country (2005) through feminist criticism and postcolonial theory, particularly Spivak’s concept of the subaltern. The purpose is to examine how women’s silenced voices in patriarchal structures are represented and how subaltern subjectivity transforms into political agency. Using qualitative textual and film analysis, the study integrates Spivak’s subalternity with Butler’s performativity, Foucault’s disciplinary power, Fraser’s redistribution and recognition, and Mohanty’s transnational feminism. Findings show that the mine functions as a patriarchal microcosm, but resistance and solidarity enable women to reclaim voice and agency, redefining the feminist maxim “the personal is political” and extending its resonance transnationally. The study concludes that North Country (2005) is a cultural artifact dramatizing the journey “from subaltern to subject,” underscoring cinema’s role as a theoretical production.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the use of Student Worksheets (LKPD) based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) on the learning outcomes of Natural Sciences (IPA) students in grade V at MIS YPI Btg Quiz. LKPD is designed to hone the ability to analyze, evaluate, and solve problems according to learning achievement indicators. The research used an experimental method with a two-group pretest - posttest design. The research population is all students of class V MIS YPI Btg Quiz which totals 55 students, while the research sample consists of class VA (29 students) and class VB (26 students) in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The research instrument was in the form of a description test totaling 5 items that had been validated (r count 0.458 - 0.730 r table 0.278) and reliable (Cronbachs Alpha = 0.637). The results showed that there was a significant difference between the science learning outcomes of students who used HOTS-based LKPD and those who did not use it. The independent samples t-test obtained a value of Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.001 ( 0.05), so it can be concluded that the application of HOTS-based LKPD has a real effect on improving the science learning outcomes of grade V students.

Abstract

Vocabulary plays a pivotal role in English learning as it forms the foundation for developing core language skills. However, many elementary students struggle with vocabulary acquisition due to limited exposure and the use of less effective instructional methods. This research aimed to examine the effectiveness of picture media as an interactive learning tool in enhancing the vocabulary mastery of fifth-grade students at Kofalagadi Elementary School, Menui District. A pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design was applied, involving 12 students as participants. The instrument used was a vocabulary test consisting of 20 items in the form of matching, multiple-choice, and jumbled-word questions. The findings showed that the students’ mean score improved from 65.83 in the pre-test to 95.00 in the post-test, with a mean difference of 29.17 points. The paired samples t-test indicated a significance value of 0.000 (p 0.05), confirming that there was a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery after the intervention. These results suggest that picture media, when applied interactively, can serve as an effective instructional strategy to support vocabulary learning, particularly at the elementary school level. Furthermore, this study provides practical insights for teachers in selecting engaging media and demonstrates that picture-based strategies can be effectively integrated into classroom practice to foster student motivation and vocabulary development.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to examine the implementation of employment rights for persons with disabilities, particularly among graduates of private Special Schools (SLB) in Ciamis Regency, Indonesia. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that although national regulations provide a strong legal basis, the practical implementation of employment rights remains limited owing to low societal perceptions, lack of multi-stakeholder synergy, and limited access to job information. Only approximately 18% of private SLB graduates managed to secure permanent jobs within one year of graduation. Therefore, more intensive collaboration between special schools, local governments, and business partners is needed to improve the economic participation of persons with disabilities.

Abstract

Early childhood is a golden period of child development, including cognitive aspects such as the ability to recognize the concept of numbers. This study aims to determine the influence of the Gema Numbers application on the ability to recognize numbers of children aged 5-6 years in Kindergarten Negeri Pembina 1 Pekanbaru City. The method used was an experiment with the One Group Pre-test Post-test design. A total of 20 children participated in learning using the application for four meetings. The pretest results showed that the child's ability was still low (40.5%), while the posttest results increased significantly to 83.5%. All indicators of number ability have increased, from recognizing symbols to comparing numbers. The results of the t-test showed a significant influence of the use of the app on improving children's abilities. Thus, the Gema Numbers application is effectively used as a fun interactive learning medium in introducing the concept of numbers to early childhood.

Abstract

This research investigated the effect of the reading aloud technique on the pronunciation ability of seventh-grade EFL students at SMPN 6 Cempaga. A quasi-experimental design was applied, involving 70 students who were divided into two groups: an experimental group taught through the reading aloud strategy and a control group taught using conventional methods. Data were collected through oral pre-tests and post-tests and were analyzed with non-parametric tests (Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney) due to the non-normal data distribution. The results showed that the experimental group’s mean pronunciation score improved from 55.64 to 73.29, while the control group’s score increased from 54.00 to 67.79. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant difference (p 0.05) between the two groups. The findings demonstrated that the reading aloud technique effectively enhanced students’ English pronunciation. Therefore, it was recommended that teachers adopt reading aloud as a regular classroom practice to foster learners’ oral proficiency and confidence.

Abstract

The growing integration of AI writing tools in education raises concerns about their influence on EFL students’ writing development. Empirical evidence is scarce, despite the assumptions regarding their advantages. This study investigated the correlation between the utilization of AI tools and essay scores among 23 fourth-semester students enrolled in the English Language Education Study Program at FKIP UNTAN (A1 class, 2024/2025). The data was obtained by distributing a questionnaire regarding the frequency of AI usage and scoring essays using a validated rubric. Pearson's correlation analysis revealed a non-significant, weak correlation (r = -0.078, p = 0.723). Grammarly and QuillBot were frequently employed to enhance grammar, clarity, and coherence, as evidenced by qualitative data. The findings challenge the assumption that the direct improvement of essay quality is an outcome of frequent use of AI tools, suggesting that other factors have a more significant impact on writing outcomes.
