Abstract

Mathematics plays an important role in training critical and logical thinking skills. One topic that is often applied in everyday life is the circumference and area of a circle. However, many students have difficulty understanding and solving word problems related to this topic. This research aims to identify the types of errors made by students in solving circumference and area of circle problems and analyze the causal factors. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research subjects were 16 class IX students at MTs Al-Habibi who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data was collected through a test containing five story questions with varying levels of difficulty and analyzed based on four categories of errors, namely concepts, facts, principles, and procedural. The research results showed that the majority of students had difficulty understanding the questions, identifying problems, and applying concepts correctly. As many as 68.75% of students scored below the KKM, indicating low understanding. Factors that cause errors include limited understanding of basic concepts, low learning motivation, and less interactive teaching methods. More effective learning strategies are needed, such as interactive methods, gradual practice, and strengthening concepts before complex questions. With the right strategy, students' understanding of the circumference and area of circles can increase, so they are better prepared to solve story problems.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a high level of vulnerability to geological disasters such as earthquakes, landslides, and volcanic eruptions due to its position in the meeting zone of three active tectonic plates. This study aims to map the spatial pattern of geological disasters Local Indicators of Spatial Association (LISA) and analyze the effect of spatial variables on the number of victims using a spatial regression analysis approach. Data were obtained from BNPB and analyzed using the OLS method and three spatial regression models, namely the Spatial Autoregressive Model (SAR), Spatial Error Model (SEM), and General Spatial Model (GSM). The LISA results show that several provinces are included in the high-high and spatial outlier categories that are prone to disasters. Regression analysis shows that for earthquakes, the SEM model is the best model with a pseudo-R² of 0.888 and the lowest AIC. For landslides, the GSM model gives the best results (pseudo-R² = 0.7860 and AIC = 78.389), while for volcanic eruptions, the spatial model does not show significant spatial effects, so the OLS model is sufficient to represent the relationship between variables. The variable number of events proved to have the most significant influence on the number of victims across all types of disasters. This finding emphasizes the importance of a spatial approach in risk mapping and geological disaster mitigation planning in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the level of understanding of the concept of conservation of numbers in students of PAUD age (six years) and 2nd grade elementary school (nine years) based on Jean Piaget's cognitive development theory. A descriptive qualitative approach was used with direct observation techniques and semi-structured interviews, as well as a number conservation test using marbles, coins, and round paper of different sizes. The subjects of the study consisted of four children: two six-year-old children at RA Salafiyah and two nine year-old children at SDN 5 Nagrikaler, Purwakarta Regency. The results showed that six-year-old children had understood the principle of conservation of numbers and realized that the number of objects remained the same even though the arrangement and size changed according to Piaget's concrete operational stages. In contrast, nine-year-old students had not fully mastered the concept, they were still influenced by the visual perception of size and arrangement. Factors of learning motivation, additional experiences (tutoring and family support), and individual interests played an important role in this difference in understanding. The findings confirm that chronological age is not the only determinant of cognitive development, so that mathematics learning strategies need to be adjusted to the characteristics of students' motivation and learning experiences.

Abstract

This research aims to develop 3D-based geometry learning media using the SketchUp application. The method used is the 4D development model, which includes Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. However, this research activity is conducted only up to the Development stage, which involves assessment and evaluation of the media by educational experts as well as a small trial with 13 students. The learning media created aims to help students understand the concepts of spatial geometry in a clearer, visual, and interactive way. Survey results indicate that the media using SketchUp is easy for students to use, which can help them better understand the shapes and structures of spatial figures. Additionally, this media is considered capable of increasing interest in learning and encouraging students to be more active in studying mathematics, especially geometry. Based on assessments from experts and student opinions, this learning media is regarded as good, interesting, and effective for aiding in learning. With a three-dimensional display, students can view spatial objects from various angles, allowing for better understanding.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low value of students in Mathematics, especially addition and subtraction materials. The monotonous learning process, such as lecture methods, repeated practice questions, and the use of simple media such as stones and sticks, are some of the causes. This study aims to describe the media design and produce valid, practical and effective learning media. educational games are used as learning media. This type of research is Research and Development (RnD) with the ADDIE model which includes five stages: Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The first stage of this model is analysis, at this stage the needs of educators and students are analyzed, the characteristics of students are analyzed, and the material is analyzed. The second stage is design, at this stage the CP, teaching modules, instruments and products are designed. Next is the development stage, at this stage it produces a product. Then the implementation stage is product testing, finally the evaluation stage, at this stage it analyzes the research data. The validation results by 3 validators obtained results with Aiken's V criteria, namely the average Valid category. The practicality of the media is high, with a percentage of positive responses from educators of 92% and students of 93% with the Practical category. The effectiveness of the media can be seen from the increase in student learning outcomes through pre-tests and post-tests, with an average N-Gain score of 81.4% with the Effective category. Thus, this learning media is categorized as valid, practical, and effective in improving the understanding of numeracy of grade I students of UPT SDN 07 Sitiung.

Abstract

Mathematics instruction in Indonesia continues to encounter difficulties in cultivating students’ problem-solving abilities, particularly in topics related to algebraic expressions. This study seeks to examine instructional needs and to develop a problem-solving-oriented Student Worksheet (LKPD) tailored to algebraic form content. The research took place at SMP Negeri 6 Kupang Tengah Satu Atap, employing a Research and Development (R&D) methodology with a focus on the analysis and design phases of the ADDIE model. The participants were seventh-grade students. Data collection methods included classroom observations, teacher interviews, and document analysis. The analysis reveals that instruction remains predominantly teacher-centered, relying heavily on lectures, with low student engagement and a lack of supportive instructional media for fostering problem-solving. In response, a student worksheet was designed that incorporates Polya’s problem-solving framework and draws upon Kupang’s local context to enhance students’ problem-solving skills. This article reports on the needs assessment and the initial development of the worksheetTop of FormBottom of Form LKPD as the first step in developing contextual and meaningful teaching materials
