Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to describe the character and educational values in the novel Orang-orang Biasa by Andrea Hirata. This research is qualitative research. The method used in this research is descriptive. The data source is a novel with the title Orang-orang Biasa. The data obtained are in the form of words in the novel Orang-orang Biasa. The data collection technique is a note-taking technique because the data is in the form of text using data analysis techniques, informal presentation techniques based on this understanding, and the technique for presenting the results of data analysis in the form of character values, which include honesty, hard work, curiosity, likes to read, discipline, democracy, and love of the country. Analysis of educational values includes the values of love for the homeland, social care, love of peace, creativity, responsibility, and religion. The validity test uses the triangulation method. The results of the research show that the character elements of the characters consist of 7 data points from the analysis, the character values of the characters consist of 21 data points from the analysis, and the educational values consist of 15 data points from the analysis. In conclusion, the novel displays elements of character and educational values, such as honesty, hard work, religion, and social, with a total of 43 data points. Andrea Hirata packaged his disappointment with the world of education into a beautiful work, depicting the struggle of poor children to achieve their dreams. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to assess the suitability of the novel "Bau Peapi (Dari Lidah Turun Ke Hati)" by Reni Hujan as a teaching material for literary appreciation in high schools. The research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. The data were collected through content analysis of the novel and interviews with high school students. The findings indicate that the novel "Bau Peapi (Dari Lidah Turun Ke Hati)" possesses several aspects that make it suitable as a teaching resource for literary appreciation in high schools. These aspects include linguistic elements, psychological dimensions, socio-cultural backgrounds, alignment with the core competencies of Indonesian language education in high schools, and the inclusion of character education values. In conclusion, the novel "Bau Peapi (Dari Lidah Turun Ke Hati)" by Reni Hujan is deemed appropriate for use as a literary teaching material in high schools, supported by various factors such as linguistic aspects, psychological relevance, cultural background, alignment with Indonesian language competencies, and the integration of character education values. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning (PJBL) model in improving linguistic intelligence and narrative text writing skills among junior high school students. The research employs an experimental method with a quantitative approach, involving junior high school students divided into two groups: the experimental group (using PJBL) and the control group (conventional learning). Data were collected through pre- and post-intervention narrative writing tests. The results show that students who participated in PJBL experienced significant improvements in linguistic intelligence and narrative text writing skills compared to the control group. PJBL encourages students to be more active, think critically, and creatively in writing, while deepening their understanding of text structure and vocabulary. In conclusion, PJBL has been proven effective in enhancing junior high school students' narrative writing abilities and linguistic intelligence, and it is recommended to be integrated into language learning. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze and compare the "AU" and "O" dialects of Serawai language used in Sukarami and Maras villages, Air Nipis District, South Bengkulu Regency. The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach with dialectological methods, where data is collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed using inductive techniques, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that there are significant differences between the "AU" and "O" dialects of Serawai, both in phonological and morphological aspects. In the phonological aspect, differences are found in the use of vowels, consonants, diphthongs, and sound changes, while in the morphological aspect, differences are found in affixation, reduplication, and compounding processes. The factors influencing these dialectal differences include geographic, social, and cultural factors of the local community. Furthermore, this study also reveals that the Serawai "O" and "AU" dialects diverged from the proto-language unit about 1,027±104 years ago, between 995-891 BCE. In conclusion, the differences between the "AU" and "O" dialects of Serawai in these two villages are influenced by various factors, including geographic, social, and cultural factors, and they have a linguistic development history that can be traced further through dialectological studies. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to analyze directive speech acts in interactions between teachers and students in class VII of SMP Negeri 13 Bengkulu City. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with observation techniques and documentation studies. The research results show that the dominant directive speech acts are commands, requests, invitations and advice. Teachers use command speech acts to give firm instructions, while request speech acts are used to ask for something politely. Apart from that, the speech act of invitation is used to invite students to do something voluntarily, and the speech act of advice is used to give suggestions or instructions to students. In conclusion, teacher and student interactions in class VII of SMP Negeri 13 Bengkulu City are dominated by various directive speech acts, showing the dynamics of effective communication in the learning process. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the denotative and connotative meanings in several poems that highlight themes of life's struggles, sadness, and hope, while understanding the messages contained within these poems through the perspectives of two language experts, Mr. Alfian and Ms. Yuli. The research method used is qualitative interviews with two language professors who interpret the poems based on their denotative and connotative meanings, along with an analysis of five poems that depict emotional experiences and challenges in life. The research results indicate that each poem contains profound and complex meanings, with themes of resilience, loneliness, and hope; both experts agree that these poems imply the importance of introspection, emotional support, and acceptance of life’s circumstances, highlighting that despite facing difficulties, individuals still have the ability to rise and continue living with optimism. Conclusion, poetry serves not only as a form of artistic expression but also as a powerful medium for conveying life messages, with a message emphasizing the importance of self-care, accepting support, and maintaining optimism even in challenging times. Additionally, understanding denotative and connotative meanings helps readers delve deeper into the human experiences represented in poetry. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the critical thinking skills and the factors influencing the critical thinking abilities of eighth-grade students at SMP N 11 Bengkulu Tengah in Indonesian language learning, which is implemented within the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum. The research method used in this study is qualitative. Data collection techniques include interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at SMP N 11 Bengkulu Tengah is underway, but students' critical thinking skills are still limited to levels C1 through C4. Although students demonstrate creativity, many still struggle with understanding concepts, which hinders the application of higher-order critical thinking skills. Psychological factors and learning interactions, such as motivation, attitudes, and teaching methods, also influence students' critical thinking abilities in Indonesian language learning. In conclusion, critical thinking skills within the Merdeka Curriculum at SMP N 11 Bengkulu Tengah have been implemented. The thinking processes in the ongoing learning activities have reached levels C1 (Remembering), C2 (Understanding), C3 (Explaining), and C4 (Analyzing). Abstract

This research aims to describe the forms of language use in society based on age domains, namely children, teenagers, and adults. The research method used by researchers is a qualitative research method. Based on data on the form of use of the Serawai language and Indonesian using data sources from the Simpang Village community, Seluma district, obtained using the listening method, namely the proficient listening technique, the proficient non-involving listening technique, the recording technique, and the note-taking technique, as well as the proficient or interview method. The results of the research show that the adult community, although able to use the Serawai language actively, shows the dominant use of Indonesian in the form of their language use. Even though teenagers are able to understand the Serawai language, they are not able to use the Serawai language actively, while children have great difficulty and are even no longer able to use the Serawai language. Another indication is the existence of the Indonesian language, which should have displaced the Serawai language by Indonesian. This can be seen from the form of language use of children who actively use Indonesian dominantly. In conclusion, the Serawai language, which is the common language of the Simpang village community, is experiencing a serious shift. Keywords: Communication, Society, Language Shift.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the forms of expressive speech acts and commissive speech acts in the first presidential debate of the 2024 presidential candidates of the Republic of Indonesia, as seen on the TV One News YouTube channel. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive. The data source for this study is a video from the TV One News YouTube channel, which contains speech acts expressed by the presidential candidates during the first debate, downloaded via YouTube. The data obtained consists of the forms of expressive and commissive speech acts in the first presidential debate of the 2024 presidential candidates on the TV One News YouTube channel. Data collection techniques include observation, note-taking, and documentation, with data analysis involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The results of the study show that the forms of expressive speech acts consist of 8 utterances: thanking, apologizing, expressing anger, complaining, criticizing, praising, mocking, and congratulating. Among these 8 forms, 56 instances of expressive speech acts were found. The forms of commissive speech acts consist of 5 utterances: promising, intending, vowing, offering, and swearing. From these 5 forms, 26 instances of commissive speech acts were identified in the debate. In conclusion, there are 8 forms of expressive speech acts, which are thanking, apologizing, congratulating, complaining, praising, expressing anger, mocking, and criticizing, and 5 forms of commissive speech acts, which are promising, intending, vowing, offering, and swearing. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the types and meanings of battle incantations in Tebat Laut Village, Seberang Musi District, Kepahiang Regency. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with a semantic approach. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis process involves three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the battle incantations in Tebat Laut Village serve to defeat enemies by combining spiritual power and natural symbolism. The incantations that paralyze the enemy emphasize the user's identification with divine power and nature, while the incantations that subdue the enemy create fear through symbols of strength, such as tigers. These two types of incantations not only function in physical conflicts but also strengthen social status, bravery, and cultural identity, affirming belief in spiritual power and existing social norms. In conclusion, there are two types of incantations: those that paralyze the enemy and those that subdue the enemy. Both incantations not only serve as verbal expressions in the context of battle but also as representations of the cultural values and fighting strategies of the people of Tebat Laut Village, reflecting hopes for victory and dominance in the conflicts they face.
