Abstract

Binahong (Anredera cordifolia) is a medicinal plant that has long been used in traditional medicine to heal wounds and various other health conditions. This study aims to review the therapeutic benefits of Binahong in wound healing through an analysis of recent scientific literature. The method used in this research is a literature review, where data were collected from various scientific journals discussing the bioactive components and pharmacological effects of Binahong. The analysis results show that Binahong contains flavonoids, saponins, and alkaloids that have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and analgesic activities. Flavonoids such as quercetin and kaempferol reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, while saponins enhance collagen production and tissue regeneration. Alkaloids provide analgesic effects that reduce pain in wounds. Clinical studies also indicate that topical application of Binahong extract accelerates wound healing and reduces the risk of infection.

Abstract

Lactic acid bacteria are a group of gram-positive bacteria that are able to ferment carbohydrates and produce lactic acid as a result of their metabolism. Lactic acid bacteria can be found naturally in the digestive tract of animals and plants. Apart from that, lactic acid bacteria are also used as a starter in the fermentation process. One of the fermented products that is processed using lactic acid bacteria is fermented milk, also known as yoghurt. Fermented milk is marketed under various trademarks. This research aims to characterize lactic acid bacteria isolates from branded fermented milk sold in supermarkets. The research was carried out using a qualitative descriptive method with stages namely sample preparation, isolation and characterization. Screening for lactic acid bacteria uses pour plate and streak plate methods. The results of the research showed that three isolates of lactic acid bacteria were obtained from the samples tested with different macroscopic characteristics, namely SFB01, SFB02 and SFB03. These three isolates were gram positive bacilli.

Abstract

The demand for electricity in Indonesia will continue to increase. This condition requires an increase in electricity production capacity from new and renewable energy (NRE) sources. The rising demand for electrical energy leads to the depletion of non-renewable natural resources, driving the shift towards renewable resources such as solar energy. Solar energy can be converted into electrical energy known as solar cells. Third-generation solar cells, known as dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), have the ability to generate electrical energy using organic materials. The objective of this research is to improve the efficiency of DSSCs by using polymerized dyes and doping the TiO2 semiconductor with the surfactant CTAB using the sonication method. This research was conducted to achieve optimum efficiency with variations in the dye immersion time in the polyquercetin solution, specifically 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 minutes. Characterization using UV-DRS was performed to observe the band gap energy of the semiconductor. The results of the study showed that the DSSC tested for current and voltage with a digital multimeter yielded the lowest efficiency of 7.9% with a 10-minute immersion time and an optimum efficiency of 19.3% with a 30-minute immersion time.

Abstract

Salinity stress enhances plants' growth and development, leading to decreased productivity. Ageratum conyzoides L., also known as Bandotan, is an invasive plant that has spread throughout almost all regions in Indonesia. Investigating the adaptation mechanisms of this plant offered insights into the stress tolerance levels to the salininty and was important for the mitigation of the consequences of its invasivenessnature. The objective of this research was to investigate the impact of salinity stress on the growth and development of A. conyzoides.  The study was carried out in a greenhouse between April and May 2022. The plants were grown under two degrees of salinity stress (i.e., 2000 ppm for moderate stress, and 75000 ppm for extreme stress). The results indicated that A. conyzoides was adaptive to moderate salinity conditions. In extreme stress conditions, A. conyzoides expressed stress by decreasing the plant height and total stomata. The plant adapted by developing flowers at a faster rate as a defense mechanism for the propagation of future generations.
