Abstract

This research analyzes the effectiveness of contraceptive methods and reproductive health surveillance systems in the adult entertainment industry through a descriptive-analytical literature review approach. The research objectives are to evaluate the effectiveness of birth control pills and IUDs as primary contraceptive methods, analyze the implementation of reproductive health surveillance programs, and identify factors influencing the success of comprehensive contraceptive care programs. The research method employs systematic literature search strategies from PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and ScienceDirect databases with publication period 2021-2025, analyzed using thematic analysis approach. Research findings indicate that birth control pills have high preference but risk causing hypertension in long-term use, while IUDs as long-acting reversible contraceptives show significant potential despite low adoption rates. Effective reproductive health surveillance systems require multisectoral collaboration and continuous education approaches. Contraceptive adherence is significantly influenced by communication, information, and education, where peer education demonstrates positive results. Long-term impacts of hormonal contraceptives require cardiovascular monitoring and consideration of nutritional and physical activity factors. Research conclusions emphasize the need for integrating reproductive health programs with occupational health systems, developing periodic monitoring policies, and implementing contraceptive management strategies tailored to demographic characteristics and individual needs of workers in industries with specific occupational risks.

Abstract

Coated tongue is a mucosal condition characterized by a white or yellowish layer on the dorsum of the tongue due to the accumulation of debris, desquamated epithelial cells, and microorganisms. This condition is often associated with poor oral hygiene, xerostomia, smoking habits, and systemic diseases. This study aims to evaluate the profile of coated tongue incidence and its relationship to related risk factors at RSGM Universitas Andalas. This study is a retrospective descriptive study with a total sampling technique. Data were taken from patient medical records at the Oral Disease Polyclinic of RSGM Universitas Andalas in January–December 2023. Data collected included gender, age, cases of coated tongue , and risk factor status such as smoking, systemic diseases, drug use, stress, and Candida infection. Of the 620 patients, 566 (91%) had coated tongue. A higher prevalence was found in men (56%) than women (44%). All age groups 31–60 years showed a prevalence of coated tongue of 100%, while the age group 21–30 years was 91%. Most patients with coated tongue have smoking habits (69%), systemic diseases (80%), drug use (75%), and a small number experience stress (8%) and Candida infection (6%).Coated tongue is a very common condition in patients who come to RSGM Universitas Andalas, with a strong association with lifestyle and systemic factors. Promotive and preventive interventions are needed to increase awareness of tongue hygiene, as well as handling the accompanying risk factors.

Abstract

E. Faecalis  is responsible for 80−90% of hospital-acquired enterococcal infections and failed endodontic tretment. The emergence of E. Faecalis  multidrug resistance including to common endodontic medication and its ability to form biofilms have significantly complicated its clinical management. Thereby the development of novel antibacterial and antibiofilm agents is essential. Identifying and targeting key proteins is critical for drug discovery and development. This review aims to provide a brief information about potential protein receptors in E. Faecalis  that could serve as targets for antibacterial and antibiofilm therapies.

Abstract

Dental biofilm is a structured microbial community that adheres to the tooth surface and becomes embedded within a self-produced extracellular matrix. This matrix, rich in polysaccharides, proteins, and nucleic acids, enables microorganisms to survive environmental stresses and contributes to the onset of oral diseases such as caries and periodontitis. The purpose of this scoping review is to determine current knowledge the dental biofilm formation. The articles published from 2020 until 2025 were searched for using the keywords: "dental and biofilm and formation" in the PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google scholar databases. Using PRISMA-Scr, existing articles were chosen based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. There were five articles found that were suitable for review. The data presented in the article vary according to the study's location, purpose, method, and samples. The major classes of extracellular polymeric substances that form the matrix are common to most biofilms and comprise carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids, and cell wall polymers, such as peptidoglycans and lipids. Several unique resistance mechanisms make biofilms particularly tough to manage. Biofilm bacteria employ multiple defense mechanisms, such as capsule protection, efflux pumps, membrane modifications, genetic adaptations, quorum sensing, metabolic dormancy, and stress responses, making them highly resistant to treatment and contributing to persistent infections.

Abstract

Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory condition initiated by microbial dysbiosis and driven by host immune responses, notably the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which contribute to tissue damage. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), a potent antioxidant, plays a role in collagen synthesis and immune regulation. Several studies have proposed vitamin C as an adjunct in periodontal therapy, yet its effectiveness remains unclear. This systematic review aims to evaluate the effect of vitamin C supplementation on clinical periodontal parameters in patients with periodontal disease. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed and Scopus for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between January 2015 and June 2025. Included studies investigated vitamin C supplementation in patients with periodontal disease without systemic conditions, pregnancy, lactation, or medication use. Studies involving vitamin C in combination with other nutrients without a separate vitamin C-only group were excluded. Data extraction and analysis followed the PRISMA guidelines. Four RCTs met the inclusion criteria. Significant clinical improvements were observed in periodontal parameters following non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT). However, the addition of vitamin C supplementation alone did not consistently provide significant improvements beyond NSPT alone. One study showed greater improvements when vitamin C was combined with melatonin, and another suggested potential benefits from guava—a natural source of vitamin C and polyphenols—over synthetic vitamin C. Current evidence suggests that while vitamin C supplementation may offer modest anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits, it does not consistently enhance clinical outcomes in periodontal therapy when used alone.

Abstract

Saliva plays vital roles in oral and systemic health and is emerging as a valuable tool in biomedical research. It contains bioactive components such as cytokines, enzymes, and immunoglobulins that reflect immune status, making it a promising non-invasive diagnostic fluid. A literature review was conducted using PubMed and Google Scholar Science Direct (2015–2025) with keywords related to saliva, immunological markers, and oral health. Studies included were original research on human subjects. Articles were screened following PRISMA guidelines. Salivary biomarkers such as IL-6, TNF-α, IL-17A/F, IFN-γ, CRP, calprotectin, IP-10, MCP-1, NT-proBNP, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-8, and sTNFRII have been linked to oral cancer, periodontitis, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular disease, and viral infections. Studies showed that these markers reflect both local inflammation and systemic immune responses. Saliva captures immune activity through pathways like Th17, TNF, and JAK/STAT signaling. Its non-invasive nature, molecular stability, and compatibility with modern analysis techniques (e.g., transcriptomics and proteomics) make it ideal for monitoring disease progression and immune function. The presence of stable biomarkers like cytokines, acute-phase proteins, and cardiovascular indicators in saliva supports its diagnostic relevance.Saliva offers a practical, non-invasive approach to immunological monitoring. With proven biomarkers for various diseases, it holds strong potential for future diagnostic and research applications.

Abstract

A condition of hypertension is a condition in which blood pressure in the arteries increases continuously. This condition can cause additional burden on the heart and blood vessels, thus increasing the risk of serious health problems, including heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, and other problems. This is very threatening especially for the elderly who are at risk. The purpose of this study was to analyze the function of family health in the implementation of the "PATUH" program for efforts to manage the health of elderly hypertension. The design of this study used correlation with a cross-sectional approach conducted on 34 respondents with the criteria, namely elderly hypertension who have received the PATUH program, willing to follow the course of the study, not in a state of relapse or emergency complications. Data were taken using a standard questionnaire/instrument for both variables and then analyzed using the Spearman rho test. The results of this study indicate that most of the family health functions in the implementation of the "PATUH" program are in the less category as many as 20 respondents (58.8%), and almost all of the efforts to manage the health of elderly hypertension are in the sufficient category as many as 16 respondents (47.1%), and the significance value of the sparman rho correlation test was obtained at 0.000 with a correlation coefficient value (r) of 0.760, which means that there is a significant relationship between the family health function in the implementation of the "PATUH" program and efforts to manage the health of elderly hypertension. Therefore, it is very important for every family and the elderly in particular to be able to maintain health comprehensively in maintaining and improving health levels.

Abstract

Anxiety is an emotional disorder that is felt naturally and is characterised by intense and unclear feelings of fear or worry (Puspitasari & Wahyuntari, 2020). According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2020), the rate of anxiety in pregnant women in Indonesia reaches 107,000,000 or 28.7% of which anxiety occurs in pregnant women before childbirth. According to WHO (2020), the level of anxiety during pregnancy ranges from 8-10% and increases to 12% before childbirth. Elvina et al (2018) in their research said that pregnant women in developing countries experienced anxiety disorders reaching 19.8%. Therefore, researchers are interested in conducting research on the effect of cognitive behavioural therapy interventions in reducing maternal anxiety during pregnancy in the Makrayu health centre working area. This research design is a quasi-experiment with a two group pre-test and post-test design with control. Respondents of this study were pregnant women who visited the obstetric clinic of the makrayu health centre with a total of 30 respondents. To measure the level of anxiety using the PASS instrument (Perinatal Anxiety Screening Scale). The data that has been obtained is processed and analysed by paired sample t- test with a p-value of 0.05 using the SPSS program. From the results of the study it can be concluded that the results of the t-test obtained a p value = 0.000; (<0.05) indicate an effect on changes in the anxiety level of pregnant women in the intervention group and control group after being given CBT intervention. This shows that there is a significant decrease in the anxiety level of pregnant women before and after the intervention, so it can be concluded that cognitive behavioural therapy / CBT is effective for reducing anxiety levels in pregnant women. Where it can be interpreted that respondents in the intervention group before being given the intervention obtained moderate to severe anxiety levels, after being given the intervention the anxiety level decreased to no anxiety to moderate anxiety. Advice to pregnant women to be able to play an active role in following counselling or consulting if they feel anxious during pregnancy.

Abstract

Based on WHO, the total death caused only by alcohol causing liver cirrhosis complications was estimated at 637,000 people in 2016. Based on Riskesdas 2018, 3% of Indonesians consumed alcohol 0.3% excessively. One of the liver damage prevention due to alcohol was by consuming plant antioxidants. Ethanol extracted clove flowers (EEBC) contains antioxidant substances such as eugenol and flavonoids which protect hepatocytes from free radicals. The aim of this research was to determine the hepatoprotective effect of ethanol extracted clove flower on hepatocytes induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). Trichloromethyl from CCl4 metabolism by P-450 enzymes caused lipid peroxidation of hepatocyte cell membranes This research was divided into 5 groups with 5 Wistar rats in each group. The group categories were negative control (K1), positive control (K2), 750 mg/KgBW dose EEBC (K3), 875 mg/KgBW dose EEBC (K4), 1000 mg/KgBW dose EEBC (K5). The research procedure was divided into 2 phases. First, administration of extract for 7 days, second, induction of CCl4 on the 8th day. On 9th day, rats were terminated and their livers were taken for histologic preparations. The results showed that K5 had the lesser destruction than positive control but still under negative control, and K3 and K4 almost the same as positive control. In conclusion, ethanol extracted clove flowers had hepatoprotective effect towards hepatocytes of induced CCl4 Wistar rats. Low and moderate doses of EEBC did not have a statistical effect, apparently because the induction of CCl4 was too strong compared to previous studies that used paracetamol.

Abstract

The sale of prescription drugs without a doctor's prescription remains a common issue in many pharmacies, despite clear regulations prohibiting such practices. This article is a narrative literature review aimed at analyzing the legal framework, pharmacist accountability, and the effectiveness of supervision concerning the distribution of prescription-only medicines in Indonesia. The review is based on five relevant scientific articles and a selection of applicable legal regulations. Findings show that regulatory loopholes, weak enforcement of administrative sanctions, and low public awareness regarding appropriate drug use contribute to ongoing violations. Furthermore, the rise of online pharmacies and the ease of accessing drugs through digital platforms exacerbates the risk of misuse. Therefore, it is essential to strengthen adaptable regulatory frameworks, enhance public education, and develop an integrated supervision system, including the use of digital verification technologies.
