Abstract

correct spelling, such as the use of capital letters at the beginning of words at the beginning of a sentence, is an important aspect of language skills that must be possessed by students. The results of the observation show that the application of spelling by students is still often an obstacle in writing activities. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze Indonesian spelling errors in the observation report text of students' work in grades VIII C and D of SMP Negeri 30 Semarang. In addition, this study also describes the factors causing these errors as well as the stages and forms of improvement. This is important to explore because the use of Indonesian spelling in accordance with EYD V is still an obstacle in writing, especially writing observation report texts. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques in the form of interviews and documentation studies. The results of the study show various spelling errors in Indonesian made by students including errors in the use of capital letters, punctuation, hyphenation, writing of loan words, affixed words, abbreviations, numbers, and pronouns. The process of correcting these errors is carried out through several stages, namely identification, analysis, and error correction. Factors that influence these errors include poor understanding of EYD V, unintentional, and lack of seriousness of students in writing. This study is useful as evaluation material for educators to improve the quality of Indonesian language learning, especially in the linguistic aspect, as learning for students regarding language errors, and can be used as a reference for further researchers related to similar research.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the teaching of Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) and its impact on the learning experience of foreign students. BIPA faces significant challenges due to the structural differences between Bahasa Indonesia and other foreign languages, as well as the limitations of traditional teaching methods. AI technology offers the potential to enhance the learning experience by providing speaking exercises, pronunciation practice, and real-time feedback tailored to students' abilities. This research uses a qualitative phenomenological approach, with in-depth interviews and observations as the data collection methods. The subjects of the study consist of 30 foreign students who have used AI-based applications in BIPA learning for at least three months. The collected data is analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to identify key themes related to the students' experiences with AI technology. The results of the study show that most students reported improvements in their language skills, especially in vocabulary, grammar understanding, and pronunciation, after using AI applications. As many as 85% of students felt more engaged in learning with AI, as the application provided immediate feedback and allowed them to learn independently. However, there were also some technical challenges faced by students, such as issues with internet connectivity and application errors, as well as limitations in understanding cultural contexts and more complex conversations. Nevertheless, students generally felt that AI provided a more flexible and efficient learning experience compared to traditional teaching methods. This study contributes to the development of BIPA teaching by utilizing AI as a supplementary technology. The findings also highlight the importance of further development in improving the technical stability and the AI's ability to understand Indonesia's cultural context to create a more comprehensive learning experience.

Abstract

This study applies Sara Mills’ feminist stylistics to Beyoncé’s If I Were a Boy to examine how linguistic structures reveal gender inequality in romantic relationships. The analysis at lexical, syntactic, and discourse levels shows how the song constructs and critiques dominant gender roles. Through hypothetical language and role reversal, the female narrator exposes emotional double standards and critiques male privilege. Key findings highlight how male autonomy and emotional detachment are normalized, while women are burdened with empathy and accountability. This study contributes to gender studies and media analysis by demonstrating how feminist stylistics can uncover embedded power imbalances in mainstream music.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the representation of resistance in Leila S. Chudori's novel Pulang using Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. The focus of the study is on how the narrative and discursive practices in the novel represent resistance to state hegemony, particularly in the context of the political and cultural identity of the Indonesian diaspora community after the events of 1965. Data was obtained through the identification of relevant quotations and analyzed based on Fairclough's three dimensions of CDA: text, discursive practices, and social practices. The results of the study show that resistance in Pulang is manifested not through physical action, but through symbolic narratives, discourse criticism, and claims to alternative histories. The characters in the novel reconstruct their identities through personal recognition, cultural heritage, and efforts to preserve collective memory outside the official state narrative. The allegory of Ekalaya's story reflects a form of symbolic resistance to authority; the critical questions of the younger generation reflect the desacralization of the state's narrative; and spaces such as the Tanah Air Restaurant function as sites of cultural resistance that construct counter-memories and identities. Overall, Pulang represents a transformative discourse that challenges dominant power and opens space for individual and collective agency in shaping history and identity. This research contributes to expanding understanding of literature as a medium of discursive resistance, and highlights the role of language and narrative in articulating diaspora identity and historical trauma in critical and transformative ways.

Abstract

The phenomenon of Alternate Universe (AU) as a form of cyber literature is becoming increasingly popular among Gen Z through platforms like X, TikTok, and Instagram. AU offers a space for free expression that is close to readers, but on the other hand, it shows the use of informal language that often deviates from language ethics. This research aims to describe the forms of language variation that appear in the AU story titled Warmindo for Life and Love by @awnyaii, including vulgar language, slang, colloquial language, and code-switching. The method used is qualitative descriptive with AU text documentation techniques. The research results show the rampant use of spoken language variations in written form that are unethical, reflecting unlimited linguistic freedom in the digital space. This phenomenon raises concerns about the fading charm of the Indonesian language on social media. This research is expected to contribute to digital literacy while still considering language ethics in the online space.

Abstract

This study discusses the reconstruction of formative assessment in the teaching module for news and advertisement texts for junior high school students in the context of the Merdeka Curriculum. The aim of this study is to improve the effectiveness of formative assessment by analyzing the suitability between learning objectives, test items, and assessment rubrics. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through an in-depth analysis of teaching modules from three schools, namely SMPN 7 Semarang, SMPN 30 Semarang, and SMPN 1 Margorejo. This study revealed that the previous formative assessment was less structured and only assessed basic understanding. The reconstruction was carried out by compiling questions based on critical thinking and a detailed assessment rubric. As a result, the assessment became more accurate, feedback was more meaningful, and student engagement increased. Practically, the results of this study can be a reference for teachers in designing formative assessments that are more effective and in line with learning outcomes, thus supporting the improvement of the quality of language learning in the classroom.

Abstract

The dialogue of Prophet Ibrahim to his father in QS Maryam: 42-45 not only contains the message of da'wah tawhid, but also reflects a very subtle and contextual communication strategy. This phenomenon is interesting to study academically because it shows that the Qur'an forms a rich pattern of social communication. This study aims to examine the form of language variation and speech acts in the dialog with a sociolinguistic approach. This qualitative research uses the method of literature study and thematic analysis of relevant verses, supported by the theory of language variation (idiolect, dialect, chronolect, sociolect) and the theory of speech acts of Austin and Searle. The results show that Prophet Ibrahim's language style reflects the depth of wisdom and subtlety of character in preaching to the closest people. The speech acts used are persuasive and contemplative, which linguistically indicates an attempt to encourage critical thinking and self-awareness in the interlocutor. In addition, significant differences were found between classical Arabic used in the Qur'ān and modern Arabic, especially in aspects of morphology and sentence structure, reflecting chronolectal variation. This study recommends expanding the linguistic approach in Qur'anic studies to understand the dynamics of da'wah communication more contextually and deeply. The significant contribution of this study lies in its ability to bridge the linguistic approach with exegetical analysis, providing a holistic understanding of da'wah communication strategies in a rich Qur'anic context.

Abstract

Politeness in language is an important aspect of social interaction, especially in educational settings that play a role in shaping students' character. At SMK Kelapa Sawit Arsya Geneeta Indonesia, Pangkalan Kerinci, the application of politeness principles faces challenges from the influence of digital culture and social media, which tend to shift communication norms towards informality and sometimes impoliteness. This study aims to analyze the implementation of six politeness maxims according to Leech: tact, generosity, approbation, modesty, agreement, and sympathy in student interactions. A qualitative descriptive method was used, with data collected through observations, questionnaires, and documentation involving 30 purposively selected eleventh-grade students. Data analysis shows the dominance of the agreement maxim, indicating approval and harmony in interactions, followed by the tact and generosity maxims. No significant violations of politeness principles were found despite pressures from the digital environment. These findings emphasize that although communication styles change in the digital era, students’ awareness and application of politeness principles remain intact. This study highlights the importance of strengthening character education based on language ethics as an effort to shape a morally upright generation amid ongoing societal developments.
