Abstract

This study was motivated by the low problem-solving skills of students due to learning that is still dominated by conventional methods and the lack of interactive media, resulting in students tending to be passive in their learning. This study aims to determine the effect of applying a gamification-based Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Wordwall on the problem-solving skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Padang. This study used a quantitative method with a non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental design. The sample was determined using purposive sampling, with class VII.A as the experimental class and VII.F as the control class. The research instruments consisted of an observation sheet, a student response questionnaire, and a problem-solving ability test in the form of 11 essay questions. Data analysis was conducted through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and t-tests. The results showed that the implementation of learning reached an average of 94% (very good category) and student responses were 88% (positive category). The t-test results showed that Tcount > Ttable (2.05 > 2.00), which means that there was a significant difference between the two classes. Thus, the application of gamification-based PBL assisted by Wordwall had a significant effect on improving students' problem-solving skills

Abstract

This study aims to determine the contribution of job satisfaction to work engagement among Generation Z workers. The entry of Generation Z into the workforce brings different behavioural patterns from previous generations, including a tendency to get bored quickly and a desire for constant renewal. These conditions can affect work engagement, so it is important to understand the factors that can increase work engagement, one of which is job satisfaction. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional survey design and involved 100 Generation Z participants selected using accidental sampling techniques. The research instruments consisted of the 36-item Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) to measure job satisfaction and the 9-item Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) to measure work engagement. Data analysis was performed using simple regression. The results show that job satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on work engagement (β = 0.171; p < 0.001) with an R² value of 0.541, which means that 54.1% of the variation in work engagement can be explained by job satisfaction. These findings indicate that the higher the job satisfaction, the higher the work engagement demonstrated by Generation Z workers. The results of this study can serve as a basis for organisations in designing strategies to increase job satisfaction in order to strengthen work engagement.

Abstract

Twenty-first century education requires learners not only to master content but also to develop critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and ethical as well as social awareness. This study aims to examine major issues in Indonesian education, particularly digital transformation, commercialization, and inclusivity, also to analyze deep learning design as a strategic response. The method employed is a literature review of recent studies and policy analyses related to digital education, pedagogical approaches, and inclusive practices. Findings reveal that digitalization expands opportunities for collaborative learning but is hindered by teachers’ low digital literacy, uneven infrastructure, and ethical concerns. Commercialization generates inequality due to high costs and market-oriented practices, while inclusive education struggles with limited trained personnel and adaptive facilities. Deep learning emerges as an alternative by emphasizing meaningful, reflective, differentiated, and collaborative learning experiences. It positions students as active subjects, integrates technology as a learning ecosystem, and reorients education toward its humanistic mission. Thus, deep learning design has the potential to serve as a transformative paradigm to address twenty-first century educational challenges in Indonesia and foster a more equitable, relevant, and sustainable system.

Abstract

This article discusses efforts to improve the ability to determine place value using number trees in students with autism spectrum disorder. This study used a quantitative approach with a single subject research (SSR) A-B design experimental method. The research subject was a student who had difficulty determining place value. Data collection techniques consisted of tests conducted during 15 meetings, consisting of 5 baseline phase meetings and 10 intervention phase meetings. Data analysis was performed visually using graphs to observe changes in the subject's performance. In the baseline phase, the student's completion rate was stable at 30%, 30%, 30%, 30%, 30%. After the intervention with the number tree media, there was a significant increase with the percentage of number place values ranging from 60%, 60%, 70%, 70%, 70%, 90%, 80%, 80%, 80%, 80%. The intervention was stopped after 10 meetings because the data showed a stable increase and met the criteria for successful intervention in SSR, namely that student performance was achieved and there were no indications of a decline (maintenance). The results of this study prove that the number tree media is effective in improving the ability to determine place value in students with autism spectrum disorder at SLB Al-Ikhlas Bukittinggi.

Abstract

The ethnomathematics approach views mathematics as an integral part of a community's cultural practices. This study highlights the traditional cuisine of Apam Pinang, a specialty of Pontianak, as the object of study to identify the mathematical elements contained therein. The purpose of this study is to explore the mathematical concepts that arise in the process of making and serving Apam Pinang through qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach. Data collection was conducted through direct observation, interviews with Apam Pinang sellers, and documentation in the form of photographs. Data analysis was carried out following the stages proposed by Miles and Huberman, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that the process of making and serving traditional Apam Pinang cakes involves various mathematical concepts that are important and applicable in everyday life. Some of these include the cylindrical shape of the dough container, the circular and semicircular shapes of the molds, and the use of ratios and time measurements during the cooking process. This study contributes to the documentation of local culture while expanding the study of ethnomathematics based on traditional cuisine.

Abstract

A bibliometric study provides a comprehensive mapping of a research field’s landscape and developmental trajectory. This article presents a bibliometric analysis of publications on local wisdom (local knowledge/ethnoscience/ethnochemistry) in chemistry education available on the ScienceDirect platform for the period 2014–2024. The initial dataset comprised 703 records; after screening based on predefined inclusion–exclusion criteria, 168 articles remained for analysis. The data analysis was limited to: (1) annual publication trends (number of documents), (2) the most productive authors based on publication counts, and (3) co-occurrence mapping of author keywords using VOSviewer. The results indicate an increase in publications after 2015, with emphasis on ethnoscience/ethnochemistry themes and cultural contexts such as batik as well as environmental practices. The co-occurrence map reveals thematic clusters consistent with the agenda of contextualising chemistry learning. These findings provide an empirical basis for formulating research agendas and developing local-wisdom-based instructional materials.

Abstract

This study aims to map global research trends and directions concerning the integration of local wisdom and sustainable chemistry education from 2014 to 2024 using bibliometric analysis. Data were collected through Publish or Perish (PoP) from Google Scholar using the keywords (“local wisdom” AND “chemistry education” AND “sustainability” AND “bibliometric analysis”). A total of 996 documents were retrieved, and after screening based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, 230 articles were analyzed using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix (R). The results reveal that publications related to local wisdom and sustainable chemistry education experienced a fluctuating trend, peaking in 2020 and declining in subsequent years. The co-occurrence mapping identified three main clusters indigenous knowledge, local wisdom, and ethnoscience that are interconnected in forming a conceptual framework for culturally rooted and sustainability-oriented chemistry education. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating local cultural values with green chemistry principles and the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD 2030) agenda to enhance students’ scientific literacy and ecological awareness. This research provides a theoretical and empirical basis for developing chemistry curricula and educational policies that are responsive to socio-cultural contexts and global sustainability challenges.
