Abstract

This study aims to improve the early reading skills of children with mild intellectual disabilities in Grade III at SLB Asuhan Kasih in Kupang City through the use of big books. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) with a quantitative approach based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which includes the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of three students, two females and one male. Data were obtained through observation and early reading tests in each cycle. Data analysis was conducted by comparing the average pretest, posttest cycle I, and posttest cycle II scores to see the changes in ability at each stage. The results showed a significant increase from the pretest to the posttest in cycle I and cycle II. These findings confirm that big books are effective in helping children with mild intellectual disabilities recognise letters, read syllables, and understand simple words as the basis for early reading skills.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to understand and sequence number symbols in students with mild intellectual disabilities in Grade I at SLB Asuhan Kasih Kupang. The main problem found is that learning is still abstract, making it difficult for students to recognise and sequence the symbols for numbers 1–10. This study uses a classroom action research design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which was implemented in two cycles. There were three students participating in this study. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation. The results showed a significant improvement from the pre-cycle to each action cycle. In cycle I, the students' abilities were still in the very low category. After using number cards that were presented in a concrete and interesting manner and repeated several times, there was an improvement in the students' ability to understand the symbols for numbers 1–10 and sequence them correctly. At the end of cycle II, all students achieved the predetermined success criteria with scores of RN (95), PB (95), and NF (90). These findings indicate that number card media effectively help students with mild intellectual disabilities process information more concretely and increase their focus and engagement during learning. Thus, number card media can be a relevant learning alternative to improve basic mathematical skills for students with mild intellectual disabilities

Abstract

Developing basic literacy skills in children with learning disabilities requires adaptive learning strategies based on concrete media. One of the main challenges is the students' limited ability to recognise and arrange letters systematically. This study aims to describe the process of using letter tiles, improvements in student learning outcomes, and the responses of teachers and parents to their implementation at the Bhakti Luhur Baumata Kupang Special School. The method used was classroom action research with a descriptive qualitative approach, involving one student with special needs. Data were collected through observation, tests, interviews, and documentation, then analysed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that letter stencils are effective in improving the ability to recognise vowels and consonants, pronounce letters correctly, and arrange letters into simple syllables. Student learning scores improved to the good category, accompanied by positive responses from teachers and parents. These findings confirm that letter stencils are an adaptive and enjoyable learning medium that can increase student motivation and confidence

Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in science subjects through the application of the Picture and Picture learning model in Grade V at SDM Waimangura. The study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design with two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data collection techniques included observation of teacher and student activities, documentation, and learning outcome tests at the end of each cycle to measure improvements in student understanding. Data were analysed using quantitative descriptive analysis techniques by comparing learning completeness and average scores in each cycle. The results showed a significant improvement in student learning outcomes after the implementation of the Picture and Picture model. In cycle I, out of 22 students, 15 students (68%) did not achieve the minimum passing grade of 70. In cycle II, the number of students who achieved the minimum passing grade increased to 20 students (91%), while 2 students (9%) were still below the minimum passing grade. This improvement shows that the Picture and Picture model is effective in helping students understand ecosystem material and improve overall learning outcomes. Thus, this learning model is suitable for use as an alternative science learning strategy at Waimangura Secondary School

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at SDK Waipanda in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS). The study used a quantitative approach with a pretest–posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 20 students selected purposively, namely 10 students in the experimental class and 10 students in the control class. The research instrument was an IPAS learning outcome test consisting of 15 multiple-choice questions that had been validated. Data collection was conducted through pretest and posttest, then analysed using normality test, homogeneity test, and t-test. The results showed that the average pretest score of students was 41.00 and increased to 56.75 on the posttest. The t-test confirmed a significant difference between learning outcomes before and after the implementation of the PBL model with a significance value of < 0.05. These findings indicate that the PBL model has a positive effect on the learning outcomes of Grade IV students in IPAS. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of Problem Based Learning can improve student learning outcomes and is suitable as an alternative in IPAS learning in primary schools.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the learning motivation of students in the modern era, which has declined due to the development of digital technology, changes in lifestyle, and increasing distractions from various forms of entertainment. The research design is based on a literature study conducted by reviewing journal articles, scientific books, proceedings, research reports, and other credible publications. Data collection was carried out through stages of keyword identification, title and abstract screening, full reading, and noting key points. Data analysis was conducted using a content analysis approach. The study results indicate that low learning motivation is influenced by internal factors such as fatigue, stress, low self-confidence, and weak self-regulation skills, as well as external factors such as lack of family support, less varied teaching methods, and the use of technology that is more focused on entertainment. The impact of low motivation is evident in declining learning outcomes, increased boredom, low social participation, and reduced academic responsibility. This study emphasizes that efforts to enhance learning motivation need to be carried out comprehensively through positive reinforcement, creating a comfortable learning environment, appropriate use of technology, and collaboration between teachers, parents, and the school environment. These efforts are important to rekindle students' intrinsic motivation so that they can adapt and learn optimally in the modern era
