Abstract

This study analyzes risk management in Crude Palm Oil (CPO) production with a case study at PTPN IV Regional I PKS Sei Silau. Palm oil is a major commodity in Sumatra with a significant contribution to the Indonesian economy, where this industry contributes 3.5% of the total national GDP and 13.5% of non-oil and gas exports. The purpose of the study was to identify risks in CPO production and determine risk management strategies. The research method used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection through interviews and direct observation. Risk analysis was carried out using the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method to identify, analyze, and evaluate risks. The results of the study showed five main sources of risk in CPO production, namely: shortage of FFB raw materials (18), sorting FFB with raw fruit (12), machine damage (60), delays in the production process (6), and substandard CPO quality (24). The mitigation strategies implemented include optimizing production machines, regular training for employees, and strict supervision during the production and distribution process. The implementation of these strategies has reduced raw material shortages by 30% and increased production efficiency. This study concludes that the systematic application of risk management can improve operational smoothness and the quality of CPO products.

Abstract

Teachers' work ethic plays a vital role in enhancing standards of education, especially in creating a meaningful learning process and contributing to the formation of students' character. This research seeks to explore the leadership approach in encouraging the improvement of teachers' work ethic at SMP Islam Al-Ulum Terpadu Medan. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method via interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings show that the strategies implemented include routine training, providing appreciation, fostering discipline, a participatory approach in decision-making, and creating an Islamic and comfortable work environment. The success of this strategy is supported by the availability of adequate facilities, synergy between teachers, and full support from the principal. The obstacles that arise include work saturation, low motivation of some teachers, and limited facilities. The strategy has been proven to be able to increase teacher enthusiasm, discipline, and professionalism. The study concluded that participatory leadership and a supportive work environment are important factors in the success of improving work ethic. The researcher recommends periodic evaluation, strengthening technology-based training, and expanding similar research in other schools to broaden the understanding and application of strategies to improve work ethic as a whole.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) risk management in the loading and unloading process on KM Sabuk Nusantara 110. The main focus of this study is to identify potential hazards, assess the level of risk, and evaluate the effectiveness of implementing safety procedures on the ship. Using qualitative methods, data were collected through in-depth interviews with chief engineers and stevedoring workers and related literature reviews. The results of the study identified several major potential hazards, such as the breaking of the crane steel rope due to excess load capacity, the risk of slipping due to the slippery ship floor, and the lack of worker awareness in using personal protective equipment (PPE). Although there have been no significant work accidents, the implementation of the OHS SOP still has weaknesses, especially in supervision and routine training for workers. Therefore, this study recommends increasing supervision of the use of PPE, preventive maintenance of equipment, and holding periodic training to increase worker awareness and compliance with safety procedures. These findings are expected to be the basis for formulating more effective occupational safety policies in the maritime sector.

Abstract

This study investigates the semiotic construction of local cultural symbols in Gudang Garam’s 74th-anniversary advertisement, titled “Towards an Excellent Indonesia.” Using Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory, the research explores how visual and auditory elements such as traditional costumes, dances, landscapes, and nationalistic narratives are strategically employed to build a brand image that aligns with nationalism and cultural pride. The analysis reveals that at the denotative level, the advertisement portrays Indonesia’s cultural richness through aesthetic visuals. At the connotative level, however, it embeds ideological narratives that associate the Gudang Garam brand with national unity and excellence. Through the concept of myth, the advertisement constructs a symbolic link between cigarette consumption and national identity a connection that is manufactured rather than organic. Audience interpretations vary: some fully accept the nationalistic message (dominant reading), while others negotiate or reject it due to concerns about the ethical implications of using cultural symbols to promote tobacco products. The study concludes that while the advertisement successfully elicits national pride, it simultaneously raises critical ethical issues regarding cultural commodification in commercial advertising. The findings highlight the complex interplay between visual communication, ideology, and cultural identity, emphasizing the need for a more ethical and culturally respectful approach in future advertising strategies.

Abstract

Employee productivity is a key factor in organizational success in labour-intensive industries, such as steel smelters. PT GSI faces the challenge of low productivity, as reflected in increased employee absenteeism and job dissatisfaction, despite implementing various management policies. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effects of talent management, motivation, and Employee Engagement on employee productivity and to test the mediating roles of motivation and engagement. This study employs a quantitative approach with a survey design, selecting a random sample of 153 permanent employees from PT GSI. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire, whose validity and reliability were assessed using Cronbach's Alpha method and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Furthermore, data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares (PLS) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM)  techniques, with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that talent management had a significant effect on employee motivation ( ?= 0.689, p < 0.01) and engagement (?= 0.568, p < 0.01). Additionally, motivation and engagement have been proven to have a significant impact on employee productivity. PLS-SEM path analysis reveals motivation and engagement as effective mediating variables in the relationship between talent management and employee productivity. This study provides academic and practical contributions by revealing the mechanism of productivity improvement through talent management. The implication is that PT GSI needs to develop policies that support talent development, increase employee motivation, and encourage engagement to optimize company productivity.

Abstract

This study evaluates the performance of the Population Administration Information System (SIAK) policy at the South Nias Regency Department of Population and Civil Registration (Disdukcapil). Using William N. Dunn’s six criteria—effectiveness, efficiency, adequacy, equity, responsiveness, and appropriateness—the research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data triangulation from interviews, observations, and documentation. Informants include Disdukcapil officials and community members using the services. The findings show that SIAK has improved service effectiveness by speeding up the population document recording and printing processes. Efficiency has increased in terms of time and cost, though challenges like limited network infrastructure and low digital literacy persist in remote areas. Service adequacy and equity have improved, but public participation in reporting population events remains low. While institutional responsiveness has improved, digital complaint channels and inter-agency coordination need further enhancement. The SIAK policy is deemed appropriate, aligning with national regulations. Meta-evaluation results indicate excellent evaluation quality, particularly in propriety (81.3%) and accuracy (83.3%).

Abstract

This study examines the meaning of the hijab in religious behavior among the people of Tanjung Makmur Village, North Labuhanbatu Regency. The hijab is no longer seen solely as a religious obligation but has evolved into a symbol of religious identity, social status, and fashion, with varying interpretations among Muslim women in the village. Some wear it out of faith, while others follow social, cultural, or environmental pressures. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to explore the subjective experiences of informants regarding the hijab’s significance in their religious lives. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation with six informants, including Muslim women who wear the hijab and a local religious figure. The results revealed that the hijab represents obedience to Allah, self-identity, protection from negative views, and a form of da'wah. Influencing factors include family, religious education, personal awareness, and religious norms. The study concludes that wearing the hijab is closely linked to positive religious behavior.
