Abstract

Da'wah is generally categorized into two forms: da'wah bi al-lisan (da'wah through verbal communication) and da'wah bi al-hal (da'wah through action). Da'wah bi al-hal refers to a form of Islamic preaching manifested through concrete actions and has developed as part of religious-based social movements, particularly through Islamic philanthropic practices that emphasize generosity, solidarity, and social concern. This study aims to identify the trends and models of contemporary da'wah practiced by PT PLN (Persero) UP3 Purwokerto, Central Java, and to examine such practices as an alternative approach to da'wah development that is responsive to the changing dynamics of industrial society. Employing a qualitative research approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with managers and practitioners involved in philanthropic institutions, participatory observation to examine philanthropic practices directly, and documentary analysis to obtain administrative data and strengthen the validity of the research findings. The findings indicate that the da'wah model developed by PT PLN (Persero) UP3 Purwokerto embodies the concept of da'wah bi al-hal through the collection and utilization of zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf to support various areas, including economic development, humanitarian and social assistance, healthcare, education, and da'wah activities. These practices are manifested through assistance provided to individuals and communities experiencing financial and social difficulties, reflecting social solidarity and the practical implementation of Islamic values. Da'wah through concrete action demonstrates that philanthropic activities can serve as a contextual and adaptive medium of Islamic preaching in response to the rapid transformation of industrial society. Therefore, contemporary da'wah based on Islamic philanthropy can strengthen the actualization of Islamic values in social life while simultaneously expanding the reach and impact of da'wah through concrete acts of charity, solidarity, and social responsibility.

Abstract

Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) learning in Muhammadiyah higher education often emphasizes cognitive mastery, while value internalization requires more reflective, contextual, and socially oriented learning. This study aimed to reconstruct the AIK curriculum through a pedagogical deep learning approach and examine its implementation in relation to student engagement, value internalization, and Muhammadiyah identity. The study employed Research and Development using Design-Based Research (DBR) through three iterative cycles involving 80 students in two AIK classes, two lecturers, and one university administrator at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. The curriculum prototype was reviewed by two experts for theoretical alignment, pedagogical relevance, and feasibility, followed by revision and limited implementation over three weeks. Data were collected through observations, interviews, Focus Group Discussions, documentation, and questionnaires and analyzed thematically and descriptively. Student engagement increased across all indicators, including class discussion (45%–78%) and value reflection (38%–74%). Value-internalization indicators also increased, particularly reflection on Islamic values (41%–79%). Muhammadiyah identity increased in cognitive (85%–90%), affective (43%–77%), and social-behavior (46%–73%) dimensions. These findings provide context-specific descriptive evidence rather than causal proof.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of communication ethics from a Qur'anic perspective, focusing on Islamic communication principles applied in daily life, particularly within family education and Islamic guidance and counseling. In Islam, ethics holds a paramount position, serving as the moral foundation for social interactions. Communication, regulated by the Qur'an, is governed by six main principles: qaulan sadidan (truthful), qaulan ma’rufan (good), qaulan balighan (profound), qaulan maysuran (accessible), qaulan layyinan (gentle), and qaulan kariman (noble). Using a library research method, the results indicate that applying these Qur'anic principles in family education and Islamic guidance and counseling fosters ethical character, harmonious relationships, and therapeutic effectiveness. Furthermore, this framework aligns with the progressive social initiatives of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah, particularly in institutionalizing mental health services and information jurisprudence (Fikih Informasi). The integration of these values is crucial for forming a civilized society and serves as a foundation for Islamic guidance and counseling oriented toward individual and collective well-being..

Abstract

Contemporary medical education is expected not only to produce physicians with strong clinical competence but also to cultivate moral integrity, professional ethics, and spiritual sensitivity. This article aims to analyze the concept, development, and implementation of the Islamic Medical Curriculum as a model for integrating contemporary medical science with Islamic values. This study employs a qualitative-conceptual library research approach.  Data were collected through a comprehensive review of literature related to medical education and Islamic medicine and were analyzed using content analysis and a normative-philosophical approach. The findings indicate that the Islamic Medical Curriculum is grounded in the paradigm of the Islamization of knowledge, integrating revealed knowledge and acquired knowledge through the six domains of the Integrated Islamic Medical Curriculum (IIMC): Islamic foundations, history, medical sciences, clinical sciences, community and society, and leadership. The study concludes that the Islamic Medical Curriculum offers a relevant model for contemporary medical education by producing physicians who are not only clinically competent but also demonstrate ethical integrity, empathy, spiritual sensitivity, and a commitment to promoting the maṣlaḥah (public good) of society while fully adhering to the principles of evidence-based medicine..

Abstract

This study investigates how Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and the school environment shape the spiritual development of Muslim adolescents in the age of social media, addressing the limited understanding of how digital pressures and educational contexts jointly influence adolescent spirituality. Using a phenomenological qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with five Muslim middle school students in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The findings reveal that FoMO is primarily driven by adolescents' desire to remain socially connected, follow trends, and stay informed through social media. These motivations often encourage intensive social media use, which may delay prayer, reduce Quran recitation, and disrupt concentration during religious practices. At the same time, social media also functions as a source of spiritual enrichment by providing access to Islamic educational content, religious reminders, and online sermons that support faith development. The school environment plays a protective role through structured religious programs, congregational prayer, Quran recitation, and teachers' moral guidance, enabling students to maintain religious commitments despite digital distractions. Theoretically, this study conceptualizes adolescent spirituality as a dynamic and negotiated process emerging from the interaction between FoMO, individual self-regulation, and school-based religious support, rather than as a fixed personal characteristic. These findings highlight the importance of integrating digital literacy with faith-based educational practices to strengthen adolescents' spiritual resilience in an increasingly connected world.

Abstract

Efforts to mobilize community participation in waste management often involve establishing "waste banks" in various locations. However, many of these initiatives fail to incorporate a religious dimension, even though religion is believed to be a powerful motivator and a source of life balance. The "Waste Shadaqah" (waste-as-charity) movement in Brajan, Tamantirto, Kasihan, Bantul, integrates religious values into its activities, drawing upon Quranic verses and Hadith. This study employs the "Living Quran and Hadith" approach to examine how the community receives and interprets the specific Quranic verses and Hadith utilized. It also applies Berger and Luckman’s social construction theory to analyze the formation of the movement's social reality through the processes of externalization, objectification, and internalization. Furthermore, the phenomenon is analyzed using phenomenological theory to explain the elements of disseminated knowledge, the meanings formed, and the nature of the communication taking place. A qualitative method with a descriptive-interpretative approach was used, involving participant interviews and field observations. The findings reveal that the Brajan community’s reception of the Quran and Hadith manifests in both exegetical and functional forms. From a phenomenological perspective, this reception of the Quran and Hadith evolves into knowledge that is disseminated and structured within a sociological framework. The waste shadaqah initiative is viewed as a solution for maintaining cleanliness and as a medium for ta’awun (mutual assistance) among residents; this shared meaning is what sustains the movement. Professional management and the continuous communication of routine reports to residents indicate ongoing interaction. In terms of social construction, externalization occurred when Ananto conceived the idea of developing the waste shadaqah initiative. Objectification took place as he socialized the concept through religious study groups, community deliberations, neighborhood association (RT) meetings, night watch (ronda) activities, and informal forums, eventually establishing the movement and garnering resident support. Internalization occurs once the "waste shadaqah" (waste-as-charity) movement is underway and has become a community reality, eliciting varied public responses. This research demonstrates that religious factors can mobilize the community to engage and actively participate in efforts to address waste-related issues. It also shows that effective waste management can serve as a solution to social inequality within the community.
