Abstract

Prambanan Temple, as one of the world's cultural heritage sites, holds not only historical and architectural significance but also cultural messages that remain relevant in contemporary Indonesian society. This study aims to examine how the preservation of Prambanan Temple can serve as a medium for internalizing the values of unity and diversity within a multicultural context. Amid the challenges of globalization, rising intolerance, and shifting social values, cultural heritage has great potential as an educational tool to strengthen national character. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and literature review, this research explores the symbolic meanings and social roles of Prambanan Temple in fostering awareness of peaceful coexistence and respect for differences. The findings reveal that participatory and education-integrated preservation efforts can enhance a sense of ownership of national cultural identity and encourage younger generations to embrace the values of unity and diversity. Therefore, preserving cultural heritage should not only focus on physical conservation but also be recognized as an essential part of national character development.

Abstract

Misconceptions in physics represent a persistent barrier in students’ learning processes, influencing how they interpret and apply fundamental principles. These misconceptions are often robust, deeply rooted in everyday experiences, cultural beliefs, or misleading linguistic expressions, making them resistant to traditional forms of instruction. The present study aims to map senior high school students’ misconceptions across a wide range of core physics topics—including mechanics, energy, waves, and optics—through a qualitative lens. The research employed a four-tier diagnostic test and semi-structured interviews administered to 45 eleventh-grade students from a public high school in South Tangerang, Indonesia. The diagnostic test allowed for the identification of misconceptions by probing students’ answers, reasoning, confidence levels, and justifications, while follow-up interviews provided deeper insights into students’ thought processes. Data were analyzed thematically to classify the most dominant misconceptions and to uncover the underlying reasoning patterns that sustain them. Findings revealed that the most prevalent misconceptions were associated with Newton’s third law, where students believed that action and reaction forces cancel each other out; with energy conservation, where energy was perceived as a consumable entity that “runs out”; with sound propagation, where students assumed sound could travel in a vacuum; and with optics, particularly shadow formation, where students believed that light rays could stop or bend arbitrarily in space. These misconceptions were not isolated errors but rather formed coherent alternative frameworks that strongly influenced students’ conceptualizations. The implications of this study are twofold. First, mapping misconceptions across different physics domains provides a comprehensive overview of the conceptual challenges faced by students, which can inform teachers’ pedagogical strategies. Second, the results emphasize the need for instructional approaches that combine multiple representations—verbal, graphical, and experimental—along with inquiry-based activities that explicitly challenge students’ existing ideas. Such approaches are expected to foster conceptual change and support students in developing a more scientifically accurate understanding of physics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of criminal law provisions in Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics and the relevance of substituting fines for imprisonment as stated in Decision Number 17/Pid.Sus/2025/PN Pematangsiantar. The problem studied is how the application of criminal law to narcotics crimes in the decision and the extent to which the substitution of fines for imprisonment is in accordance with the principles of justice and the objectives of punishment. The research method used is normative juridical with a statutory approach and case studies of court decisions. The results of the study indicate that the application of criminal law in the decision has been based on the provisions of the Narcotics Law, however, the implementation of substituting fines for imprisonment still raises debate regarding the effectiveness, proportionality, and justice of punishment. In conclusion, although the judge's decision has a clear legal basis, the substitution of fines for imprisonment needs to be reviewed so as not to reduce the essence of the objectives of punishment which are preventive, repressive, and rehabilitative in narcotics cases.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of the ULOS learning model on the critical thinking skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Pematangsiantar in the 2025/2026 academic year. The ULOS learning model, which stands for Use the Essential Question, Let’s Design Project and Do It, Observe Result Project and Discussion, Summarize and Reflect, is a project-based learning approach grounded in constructivist theory and integrated with local cultural values. This model encourages students to develop critical thinking and creativity through contextual problem-solving and collaborative learning experiences. The research employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The population consisted of all eleventh-grade science students, and two classes were selected as samples using a simple random sampling technique. The experimental class was taught using the ULOS learning model, while the control class received conventional instruction. Data were collected using essay tests designed to measure five indicators of critical thinking skills—providing simple explanations, building basic skills, drawing conclusions, providing further explanations, and setting strategies and tactics. The collected data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and independent sample t-tests. The findings revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups, indicating that the ULOS learning model had a positive effect on students’ critical thinking skills in physics learning. The implementation of ULOS created an active, collaborative, and culturally meaningful learning environment that enhanced students’ analytical and reflective abilities. The study concludes that the ULOS learning model is an effective pedagogical approach for improving students’ critical thinking skills and promoting culturally responsive education within the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum. The results suggest that teachers should adopt innovative, student-centered learning models such as ULOS to foster higher-order thinking and cultural awareness in science education.

Abstract

Cooperatives play a strategic role in rural economic development as well as in community empowerment. However, performance measurement of cooperatives in Indonesia has largely focused on financial indicators, which do not fully reflect their contribution to enhancing members’ capacity and well-being. This study aims to evaluate the performance of agricultural cooperatives in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta, using the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) approach, which covers four perspectives: financial, member, internal business processes, and learning and growth. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method with a sample of 138 respondents consisting of members, managers, and employees of village unit cooperatives and agricultural cooperatives. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and financial reports, and then analyzed using financial ratios, descriptive statistics, and Likert scales. The results show that from the financial perspective, the performance of both types of cooperatives remains weak, with liquidity, asset turnover, and profitability falling below standard levels. From the member perspective, cooperatives demonstrate 100% retention and high satisfaction levels (79.9% for village unit cooperatives and 77.3% for agricultural cooperatives), indicating that cooperative services meet members’ expectations. The internal process perspective reflects service innovations and operational efficiency, although challenges remain in fertilizer distribution and program outreach. The learning and growth perspective shows 100% manager retention, frequent training, and job satisfaction above 80%, which contribute to strengthening the cooperatives’ internal capacity. These findings highlight that although the financial aspect is still underperforming, cooperatives in Sleman play a vital role in empowering members through capacity building, business services, and institutional strengthening. The study recommends improving financial management, diversifying business activities, and expanding

Abstract

Misconceptions The study of heat conduction has long been a central topic in applied mathematics and physics, providing fundamental insights into the diffusion of thermal energy across various media. This research focuses on solving the one-dimensional heat conduction equation using Fourier analysis as a mathematical tool to obtain an exact solution under specified boundary and initial conditions. By applying separation of variables and Fourier series expansion, the temperature distribution of the rod is represented as an infinite series that converges to the exact solution. To validate the analytical solution, a numerical simulation based on the finite difference method is also performed, allowing comparison of accuracy and convergence. The results show that Fourier analysis provides a reliable and elegant framework to model heat conduction problems, with numerical methods serving as a complementary approach for cases where closed-form solutions are intractable. This study highlights the significance of Fourier techniques not only in mathematical physics but also in practical applications such as material science and thermal engineering.
