Abstract

The 2024 community service program, funded by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, was carried out in the Women Farmers Group (WFG) Cempaka Batan Indah, South Tangerang, which manages a Sustainable Food House Area. WFG produces various healthy vegetables and fresh fish, with its main products being Butterfly Pea Flowers, Sacha Ichi, and Cumin. However, WFG faces supply chain challenges, including suboptimal production due to inefficient task division and low member awareness. Additionally, product distribution and packaging remain inadequate, leading to delivery obstacles. Profitability is also limited, as sales turnover does not meet expectations, and processing facilities are insufficient to achieve target production. To address these issues, the program provided training and coaching on organization, marketing, production quality, and productivity improvement. Members were also educated on the importance of the Supply Chain and Value Chain. Additionally, appropriate technology support was introduced with a dehydrator and an automatic vertical sealer to enhance production efficiency. As a result, members demonstrated increased understanding, enthusiasm, and capability in using the machines, leading to a threefold increase in production capacity. The process became more efficient, hygienic, and standardized, improving product quality and ensuring business sustainability.

Abstract

Lumajang Regency, Senduro District, East Java is famous as a center for the production of spices and herbs. Due to its abundant natural potential, various biopharmaceutical plants have been developed and are now major players in the local agricultural industry. The area is rich in natural resources, including vast agricultural lands and a climate that supports the cultivation of many medicinal plants. However, the challenge often faced by farmers is the lack of efficient processing equipment, which hinders the realization of the full potential of these biopharmaceutical components. Appropriate technological innovation The tool known as the “Biopharmaceutical Grinder” is intended to maximize the grinding of several biopharmaceutical raw materials, including spices, herbal plants, and other natural components.  Biopharmaceutical Grinder can increase the output and market value of local goods by creating an instrument that is easy to use and friendly to rural communities. The creation and distribution of the Biopharmaceutical Grinder is expected to enhance Senduro's position as a center for biopharmaceutical processing in East Java and make it a model for other regions that want to utilize their natural resources in an environmentally responsible manner.

Abstract

This community service program aims to address the problems faced by Kenayyu Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Sragen Regency, particularly in the areas of financial management, accounting practices, design innovation, production capacity, and marketing. The urgency of this activity arises from the limited availability of production equipment, unstructured financial recording systems, and lack of marketing strategies, which hinder the competitiveness and sustainability of hand-printed batik businesses. To overcome these issues, the program was implemented through five main stages: (a) socialization, (b) training, (c) technology application, (d) mentoring and evaluation, and (e) program sustainability. The socialization stage built awareness and commitment among partners, while the training improved skills in financial recording, accounting applications, and batik motif design. The application of technology was carried out through the use of dynamo-powered equipment to enhance production efficiency. Mentoring and evaluation ensured continuous improvement and problem-solving, and the sustainability stage encouraged partners to maintain progress after the program ended. These activities have produced significant outcomes, including increased financial literacy, better product design innovation, improved production efficiency, and expanded digital marketing through marketplaces, leading to higher competitiveness and turnover for partner SMEs.

Abstract

Oyster mushrooms are widely consumed as part of daily food, similar to green vegetables. They contain beta-glucan fiber, antioxidants, and nutrients that support heart health, immunity, cognitive function, blood sugar control, and reduced cancer risk. These benefits encouraged Mr. Asmari to develop an oyster mushroom processing business. This community service activity evaluates the feasibility of the business based on four main aspects. From the engineering and production aspect, the business location is accessible, and electricity and water are adequate. The mushroom house is suitable, with proper shelves, ventilation, wide access doors, and sufficient lighting. However, production capacity has dropped significantly from about 1 kg to around 100 grams per baglog, indicating reduced productivity. In the aspect of organizational management and human resources, the number of workers is limited, and all production stages depend on minimal labor, so this aspect is considered not feasible. From the market and marketing aspect, products reach several schools and traditional markets, and product innovations match consumer preferences, although the market area remains small. Financial analysis also shows infeasibility, indicated by a payback period of more than five years, negative NPV, an IRR below the 30 percent standard, and a profitability index under 1.

Abstract

The Beginner Community Service Program (PMP) was carried out in Wotgalih Village, Lumajang, with a focus on empowering water hyacinth artisans to improve the creative economy based on local resources. Water hyacinth, which has been considered an aquatic weed, is used to produce handicraft products such as bags, sandals, hats, and household accessories, adding economic value. However, artisan businesses still face significant obstacles, including limited product diversification, reliance on traditional production technologies, and limited marketing strategies. The solutions offered include product design innovation training, the procurement of appropriate technology, such as zigzag sewing machines, to improve production efficiency, and branding and digital marketing assistance through social media. The implementation method includes socialization, training, technology application, intensive mentoring, and sustainability evaluation. The expected results include creating at least 5 new product types with modern designs, strengthening artisans' skills, and forming brand identities and digital marketing networks capable of penetrating local, national, and international markets. This program not only contributes to improving people's welfare but also supports the achievement of the SDGs, especially in poverty alleviation, decent work and economic growth, sustainable consumption and production, and the preservation of aquatic ecosystems. Thus, using water hyacinth as an innovative craft can be a strategic solution to reduce environmental impact while strengthening the village's creative economy.

Abstract

Seaweed is a leading commodity in Sumenep Regency. However, post-harvest quality remains low due to traditional drying methods, which, in turn, affects selling prices and farmer welfare. This community service program aims to improve the quality and competitiveness of seaweed farmers in Pagarbatu Village by applying SW-Solar Dryer technology. Implementation methods include outreach, management and production training, SW-Solar Dryer application, mentoring, and ongoing evaluation with "Kelana" fishing group partners. The results showed that the SW-Solar Dryer can reduce drying time from 2–3 days to just 5–8 hours. It maintains product hygiene because the process is carried out in a closed room. Moisture content produced also meets industry standards. Furthermore, the mentoring program encouraged diversification of processed seaweed-based products. This increased farmers' income and reduced dependence on collectors. Thus, the application of SW-Solar Dryer technology has proven effective in improving post-harvest management, expanding business opportunities, and creating more competitive seaweed farmers.

Abstract

The Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa) in Wotgalih Village, Yosowilangun District, Lumajang Regency, was implemented to empower the community by leveraging local potential. Wotgalih Village has abundant natural resources, including water hyacinths, and a strong batik-making tradition, both of which are underutilized. Through training, mentoring, and integrated production, the program transforms these potentials into creative, valuable products: “Gondo Laut” Batik packaged with woven water hyacinth crafts. Methods include observation, interviews, pre- and post-test questionnaires, and participatory evaluations to assess skill improvement and program effectiveness. Results show a significant rise in the community’s ability to process local materials into marketable goods, the formation of the “Guyub Ranu Batik” business group, and increased entrepreneurship among women and youth. The program also fosters collaboration among universities, the village government, and local communities to build a creative economy rooted in local wisdom. This activity improves economic welfare, strengthens cultural identity, and establishes an innovative, sustainable model for village development.
