Abstract

A holistic foundation during the transition from early childhood to primary school is a critical period that significantly influences children's overall development. This study aims to explore the impact of this transition on children's religious, social, emotional aspects, positive learning attitudes, motor skills, and cognitive abilities. The primary method employed is a qualitative approach using questionnaires distributed to 23 parents of children aged 5 to 8 years. The findings indicate that children have demonstrated the presence of their holistic foundations. However, several areas still require further attention and guidance from both parents and educators. Therefore, collaboration among educational institutions, teachers, and parents must be well-aligned to ensure a smooth transition from early childhood to primary education.

Abstract

The learning environment has a crucial role in supporting the growth and development process of early childhood. Educational theories emphasize the importance of learning spaces that are safe, comfortable, aesthetic, and able to stimulate various aspects of children's development. However, the results of field observations in several Early Childhood Education (PAUD) units show that the implementation of these principles is still far from ideal. This article aims to reveal the reality of managing the PAUD learning environment based on the results of direct observations, with a focus on spatial aspects, suitability of facilities, and children's involvement in the learning environment. The findings show that there is a gap between theory and practice caused by limited resources, lack of educator training, and minimal awareness of the importance of the environment as an element of learning. This study emphasizes the need for joint efforts in building a PAUD learning environment that truly supports children's needs, starting from the most basic foundations: understanding, awareness and commitment to the quality of learning environment management.

Abstract

Instilling a sense of nationalism from an early age presents challenges, especially for Indonesian children living abroad, such as those at Sanggar Bimbingan Sungai Mulia in Malaysia. Limited exposure to national symbols, values, and cultural identity often results in a lack of understanding of their Indonesian roots. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Canva-based interactive learning media in improving children's knowledge of nationalism. This research used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 25 children aged 5–6 years. A pretest was conducted to assess their initial understanding, followed by lessons using Canva to introduce topics such as national symbols, the anthem, traditional houses, local food, and Pancasila values. A posttest was then given, and the data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test.The results showed a significant increase in posttest scores. Children demonstrated greater enthusiasm, focus, and engagement throughout the learning process. Canva’s visual and interactive elements helped simplify complex concepts, making them easier and more enjoyable to learn. The findings suggest that Canva is an effective medium for enhancing nationalism awareness among Indonesian children abroad. This study highlights the importance of using engaging digital tools in character and civic education, particularly in multicultural and global contexts.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential skills that need to be developed from an early age to face the challenges of the 21st century. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the scientific approach in improving the critical thinking skills of children aged 5-6 years through a systematic literature review. Data were collected from ten selected scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025 and analyzed based on strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study results show that the scientific approach significantly improves children's critical thinking skills, especially in the aspects of observing, questioning, reasoning, problem solving and concluding. This approach is effectively applied in various learning contexts, including conventional learning as well as those that integrate technology and innovative methods such as mind mapping, makerspace and problem-based learning. Successful implementation is strongly influenced by teacher competence, learning environment support, and parental involvement. However, challenges such as limited teacher understanding, lack of resources and low parental participation are still obstacles. Although its short-term effectiveness has been proven, longitudinal research is needed to assess its long-term impact on children's cognitive development. Thus, the scientific approach is recommended as the main learning strategy in early childhood education to optimally build the foundation of critical thinking.

Abstract

Humans will experience stages in their lives, as explained in the Qur’an. At each stage/level of life, they require stimulation and educational processes that are expected to develop the basic potential they have had since birth. Humans are born with diverse potentials, and in this regard, the educational process plays a very important role in developing those potentials. The role of parents and educators is crucial in shaping a child to become who they are, how their character develops, and in determining their future. The researcher chose library research as the method in this study, so the data sources used are books and journals that discuss the potential children bring from birth and the process of developing that potential

Abstract

Problem-solving ability is an essential aspect of early childhood cognitive development, as it shapes logical, critical, and creative thinking from an early age. However, many early childhood learning practices still focus on rote activities that do not sufficiently stimulate higher-order thinking skills. This study aims to analyze the effect of digital learning media on improving problem-solving abilities among early childhood students. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest model involving 32 children in group B at an early childhood education institution in Situbondo. Data were collected through observation sheets assessing children’s problem-solving abilities and analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicate a positive and significant influence between the use of digital media and children’s problem-solving ability (r = 0.61; p < 0.05) with the regression equation Y = 14.86 + 0.40X. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.37 shows that 37% of the variation in problem-solving ability is explained by the use of digital media. These findings confirm that digital media is effective as an interactive and engaging learning tool that enhances critical thinking and problem-solving skills in early childhood education.

Abstract

Please Early childhood learners possess diverse characteristics in terms of interests, learning styles, and developmental readiness. However, instructional practices in many early childhood education settings often remain uniform, limiting opportunities for children to engage in activities aligned with their individual needs. This study explores the implementation of differentiated instruction through choice-making as a strategy to enhance children’s engagement and reduce disruptive behaviors in early learning settings. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the study was conducted at TK PKK I Bangilan Tuban with one teacher, 15 children aged 4–5 years, the school principal, and three parents as participants. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model with triangulation to ensure validity. Findings indicate that differentiated instruction was carried out in three stages: preparation (diagnostic assessment of readiness, interests, and learning styles), implementation (differentiated content, process, and product), and evaluation-reflection. The results show that choice-making strategies significantly increased children’s active participation, focus, and enthusiasm during learning activities, while also reducing instances of tantrums and passive behavior. Children demonstrated greater autonomy, motivation, and positive emotional regulation when provided with meaningful options. This study concludes that differentiated instruction integrated with choice-making not only supports cognitive, social, and emotional development, but also fosters an inclusive, engaging, and equitable learning environment. The findings have theoretical implications for enriching the literature on differentiated instruction and practical implications for PAUD teachers in designing flexible, child-centered learning strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Market Day as a learning activity to introduce entrepreneurship to young children through the use of matcha products as an instructional medium. This research employed a literature review method by analyzing journals, books, and curriculum documents related to early childhood entrepreneurship education. The findings indicate that Market Day provides direct learning experiences that help children understand simple buying and selling processes, recognize basic value exchange, and develop social, communication, creative, and fine motor skills. The use of matcha as learning material supports the activity because it is easy to process, visually appealing, and safe, which increases children’s engagement during the learning process. The review also highlights the essential role of teachers as facilitators in ensuring that the learning environment remains structured, secure, and enjoyable. Overall, matcha-based Market Day activities serve as a thematic strategy that is relevant for cultivating entrepreneurial values while integrating multiple developmental domains in early childhood education. The study emphasizes that experience-based learning can be an effective approach to fostering entrepreneurial interest and character from an early age.
