Abstract

This article investigates the evolution of guardianship in Islamic discourse, focusing on the tension between its traditional rigidity and emerging flexibility. Conventional interpretations, often shaped by patriarchal readings of Quranic texts, have historically assigned guardianship exclusively to men. However, contemporary legal and contextual approaches increasingly recognize women’s eligibility as guardians. Using a qualitative method based on a systematic literature review, this study examines primary Quranic sources alongside family law reforms in selected Muslim-majority countries. The findings reveal a paradigmatic shift from male-centered authority to a child-centered model that prioritizes the best interests of the child. The article also clarifies the conceptual distinction between guardianship –pertaining to legal and financial responsibilities- and custody, which addresses emotional and physical support. This shift reflects broader movements to ward egalitarian interpretations and universal child welfare principles within the religious culture frameworks.

Character education is essential for shaping individuals with noble values, social responsibility, and integrity. This study explores how character values are embedded in the haul tradition, focusing on the Haul of KH. R. As'ad Syamsul Arifin at Pondok Pesantren Salafiyah-Syafi’iyah Sukorejo, Situbondo. Using a literature review method grounded in the anthropology of Islam, the research identifies key values such as exemplary behavior, humility, respect for scholars, social solidarity, and spiritual leadership within the haul. These values play a crucial role in character development. The study reveals that character education can be integrated into the community through adaptive strategies like hidden curriculum and intra-curricular and extracurricular activities. The results suggest that character education extends beyond formal classroom settings, flourishing through religious-cultural practices within the community, making the haul tradition a valuable model for culturally grounded character education.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact and contribution of pesantren culture on the academic achievements of students enrolled in higher education institutions.A pesantren is an institution established by an organization or an individual to provide Islamic education to students (santri) so that they develop strong character and a solid foundation in Islamic knowledge. A pesantren typically consists of four main elements: the kyai (Islamic scholar/leader), santri (students), dormitories, and a mosque. There are four types of pesantren, one of which operates only at night, providing education and religious instruction, while students attend school or university during the day. One example of this model is Pesantren Luhur Sabilussalam. This pesantren offers education, instruction, and guidance exclusively in the evenings, allowing its students to focus on their university studies during the day. This research reveals that pesantren fosters a positive culture that significantly contributes to students' academic character and achievements in higher education. These cultural aspects include the tradition of Islamic study sessions (pengajian), religious activities, the pesantren's overall environment, and positive interactions between students and their teachers (ustadz) and fellow students. These four cultural components within the pesantren have a 45% positive impact on students' academic and non-academic achievements in higher education. This study employs an analytical survey design with a cross-sectional approach and descriptive explanations. Data collection and analysis were conducted using a quantitative approach

Abstract

This research explores the role of affiliate marketing in preserving Islamic traditions within Indonesia's digital economy, particularly from the perspective of Sharia economic law. The problem addressed is the lack of clear guidance on Sharia compliance in modern affiliate practices, which are increasingly popular among the Muslim community. The study aims to identify how affiliate marketing can align with Islamic values and contribute to ethical digital commerce. Using a qualitative approach and literature study method, data were collected from journals, books, DSN-MUI fatwas, and relevant regulations. The findings reveal that affiliate marketing, although modern, can uphold core Sharia principles such as honesty (ṣiddiq), justice ('adālah), and responsibility (amanah). These values are crucial for avoiding unethical practices like gharar and deceit. The research concludes that affiliate marketing can serve as a medium for Islamic da'wah and economic empowerment if managed by Sharia. It recommends developing specific guidelines and promoting digital ethics through Islamic education.

Abstract

This study explores applying deep learning technology to enhance the teaching of local wisdom values in Islamic education. In the artificial intelligence era, integrating its capabilities in education is on the rise, but teaching local wisdom has not yet kept up with modern technology. A qualitative approach with a literature review focused on the application of deep learning in Islamic education is addressed in this study. The survey results show that deep learning can create adaptive learning systems that tailor the materials based on students' characteristics. Such systems can enrich learners ' experiences, enhance understanding of Islamic values, and improve younger learners' character development through local wisdom, Islamic teachings, and ethics more efficiently. Other possibilities include automated analysis of students' learning behaviors for personalized instruction, easy interaction with the educational materials, and learning through experiences. Therefore, integrating deep learning technology into Islamic education could offer innovative approaches to guard and disseminate teaching local wisdom in light of modern technological advancements.

Abstract

This paper explores Islam Nusantara, an Indonesian expression of Islam that blends local culture with Islamic teachings, and its role in cultural diplomacy. Using qualitative methods and literature review, the study traces its historical development and core values such as moderation (wasatiyyah), tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. The result shows that these values allow Indonesia to employ Islam Nusantara as a soft power tool to promote religious tolerance, dialogue, and peaceful engagement, particularly in Muslim-majority and multicultural societies. However, challenges persist, including debates on its authenticity and tensions between local practices and global Islamic discourses. The paper concludes that the dynamic interaction between local Islamic traditions and international diplomatic strategies strengthens Indonesia’s soft power and role in global intercultural cooperation. Islam Nusantara offers a compelling model for how indigenous Islamic practices can support peacebuilding and enhance international relations.

Abstract

This article discusses the interpretation of Q.S. 2:233 in the context of exclusive breastfeeding and childcare through a maqāṣidī tafsir approach. The research integrates analysis of the Qur'anic text with modern psychological theory and public health policy to highlight the relevance of Islamic teachings to contemporary issues, such as reducing stunting and children's right to optimal growth and development. The results show that Q.S. 2:233 not only provides spiritual guidance but also reflects the principles of maqāṣidī sharia, particularly in safeguarding physical health (ḥifẓ al-badan) and offspring (ḥifẓ al-nasl). In addition, this study explores cultural and traditional challenges in child-rearing practices, particularly in balancing religious obligations with modern societal changes, such as career-oriented motherhood and shifting family dynamics. This interdisciplinary approach offers a more holistic understanding for policymakers and society in promoting the importance of breastfeeding and parenting based on Qur'anic values.
