Abstract

Psalm 23:1-6 is one of the most well-known passages in the Christian tradition, portraying the intimate relationship between God as the Shepherd and His people as the sheep. In the context of contemporary church ministry, a deep understanding of these verses is crucial, as they offer theological and practical guidance for the faith community in overcoming various spiritual and emotional challenges. This study aims to explore the theological relevance of Psalm 23 in the context of modern church ministry. The primary objective of this research is to conduct a theological analysis of Psalm 23:1-6 and to explore its application in today's church ministry context. This study also seeks to identify how the principles contained in this Psalm can serve as a foundation for pastoral care, spiritual strengthening, and congregation development in the modern church. The research employs a qualitative approach, using literature review and textual analysis methods. The primary sources used include the Hebrew text of Psalm 23:1-6 and modern translations, while secondary sources comprise various theological literature, Bible commentaries, and writings from related theological experts. This research also utilizes hermeneutical methods to delve deeper into the meaning of the text and its interpretation in various historical and theological contexts. The results indicate that Psalm 23 portrays God as a Shepherd who nourishes, protects, and guides His people, creating a sense of security and trust for those who follow Him. These attributes are relevant to contemporary church ministry, particularly in the context of pastoral care and spiritual support for congregants facing life crises. The findings also suggest that the application of the values contained in Psalm 23 can strengthen church ministry strategies in providing comfort, trust, and hope to its members. This study concludes that Psalm 23 holds strong and practical relevance for modern church ministry, as it offers an ideal depiction of divine care that can be applied in pastoral ministry. The church can use the principles from this Psalm to build trust and hope among congregants, as well as to provide more effective spiritual support in addressing the challenges of modern times.

Abstract

his study aims to analyze the role of pastoral care through stewardship in the context of the pastor's duties and responsibilities towards the congregation. Stewardship as a pastoral concept can make a significant contribution to the growth of faith and the quality of life of the congregation, as well as strengthening the relationship between the pastor and the congregation. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method to identify the role of pastors in stewardship. Limitations in measuring the effectiveness of stewardship, especially the long-term impact on the growth of faith and the quality of life of the congregation, are challenges in this study. This study suggests increasing the involvement of the congregation in stewardship through providing an active role, which will help them grow in faith and Christian life. Practical implications that can be applied include the importance of a personal approach in pastoral care, such as more frequent personal meetings between pastors and congregations. The results of the study indicate that pastoral care through stewardship has a positive impact on the growth of faith andthe quality of life of the congregation, as well as strengthening the relationship between pastors and congregations and increasing the effectiveness of pastoral care.

Abstract

The story of Martha and Mary in Luke 10:38-42 illustrates the differing approaches to serving God that often occur in everyday life. Martha, busy with household chores, and Mary, who chose to sit and listen to Jesus' teachings, reflect two distinct responses to the call of service. In this narrative, Jesus does not defend Martha, who feels overlooked, but rather rebukes her anxiety and emphasizes the importance of choosing the better part, which is closeness to His presence. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with textual analysis of the narrative in Luke 10:38-42. The primary data used is the Gospel of Luke, analyzed through a hermeneutical lens to understand the meaning and message contained in the story of Martha and Mary. The aim of this research is to explore the dangers of busyness in ministry that is not accompanied by efforts to maintain an intimate relationship with God. The findings of this study highlight three key impacts that need to be aware of: first, the emergence of excessive anxiety and stress due to fatigue; second, the occurrence of disappointment in inadequate service; and third, the loss of focus on the most important aspect of life, which is a deep relationship with God. This article suggests the importance of finding a balance between active service and spiritual closeness so that ministry remains meaningful and impactful.

Abstract

The New Age Movement has rapidly developed in recent decades, having a significant impact on various aspects of life, including philosophy and spirituality. The uniqueness of this movement lies in its universal nature, allowing its teachings to be embraced across different religions, including Christianity. This has the potential to influence Mandarin-based churches, which strongly maintain their traditions and culture. This research aims to explore the philosophy and spiritual practices of the New Age Movement within the context of Christianity and assess the extent to which its teachings can interact with Christian values. The main focus of the study is to understand how the New Age Movement is accepted and practiced in Mandarin churches that remain steadfast in preserving their cultural identity and traditions. The study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive analysis, studying literature related to the movement and observing spiritual practices in Mandarin-based churches to understand its influence on the congregation. The findings indicate that although the New Age Movement has the potential to be accepted within a Christian context, there are challenges in maintaining the sanctity of Christian teachings. The syncretism that characterizes this movement allows for adaptation with church traditions, but care must be taken to avoid altering the substance of Christian teachings. This study provides important insights for Mandarin churches to wisely understand and respond to the influence of the New Age Movement, ensuring that the congregation continues to uphold authentic Christian teachings and does not fall into beliefs contrary to the Christian faith.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the ISO 9001 quality management system at the Pentecostal Church of Cililitan, which has faced a decline in congregation numbers in recent years. Effective and systematic management of church services is crucial to meet the spiritual needs of the congregation and to have a positive impact on society. Specifically, the decline in the number of congregants is caused by issues of ineffective leadership and poor internal communication. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with church leaders, service staff, and congregation members, as well as document analysis related to the implementation of ISO 9001. A literature review was also conducted to understand how the quality management system can be applied in the context of religious organizations. The results of the study show that the implementation of ISO 9001 has made a positive contribution to the church’s organizational structure, including improvements in work procedures, enhanced internal communication, and strengthened leadership. The implementation of this system has helped create a more organized service environment, increased congregational satisfaction, and restored trust in the church leadership. However, the success of implementing this quality management system depends heavily on the commitment of the church leadership and the active involvement of all members of the organization. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that the implementation of ISO 9001 can significantly contribute to the growth of the church. With consistent implementation, the church can improve service quality and experience sustainable growth in the congregation. This study recommends that the church continue to strengthen leadership and communication aspects as part of the strategy to enhance service quality.

Abstract

In The parallelism and metaphors found in the structure of Proverbs 4:18-19 highlight the difference between the choice to be righteous or wicked. Parallelism ensures that the wisdom conveyed can be easily remembered and applied, while metaphor enriches the moral message in a way that stirs emotions and imagination. This parallel structure strengthens the narrative about the choice of life paths, accompanied by the implementation of each individual's decision. Meanwhile, the metaphor depicts the final outcome of each choice. This research aims to serve as a life contemplation for everyone to choose the path of righteousness. Based on a hermeneutic study of the wisdom literature subgenre, this method includes structural analysis of parallelism and poetic devices such as metaphors, as well as exploring its theological meaning within social and cultural contexts, along with its implementation in the ethical and moral lives of individuals. The research identifies three life contemplations: first, the path of the righteous is always illuminated by blessings and promotion; second, the path of the wicked is always in darkness and leads to punishment; and third, the path of the wicked is always a stumbling block. The results of this study affirm that the wisdom in Proverbs remains relevant to modern life. By understanding and applying its principles, one can build a life that is wiser, more moral, and oriented toward God's will, both in personal, spiritual, and social contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the influence of discipleship on the work ethic and work discipline of Christian alumni in Palu City. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected through a closed-ended Likert-scale questionnaire from 65 respondents, who were selected based on the criterion of having participated in a discipleship programme for at least one year. A simple linear regression analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between discipleship and both work ethic and work discipline. The regression results indicate that discipleship has a significant impact on work ethic (R² = 39.3%) and work discipline (R² = 38.1%). Discipleship helps alumni perceive work as an act of worship to God and encourages the application of Christian values in the workplace, such as integrity, responsibility, and discipline. The implications of this study highlight the need for the development of more holistic discipleship programmes by integrating professional skills training to better equip alumni for workplace challenges. Additionally, this study encourages further exploration of other factors influencing the work ethic and discipline of Christian alumni.

Abstract

Suffering is often regarded as a direct consequence of sin in theological tradition, but the story of Job challenges this view. The story of Job reflects the reversal of this understanding. The purpose of this research is to analyze the epilogue of the Book of Job as a response that can correct the misunderstanding of retributive theology regarding the suffering of the righteous. The view opposed in the epilogue is the belief that the righteous will surely be blessed and the sinners will surely suffer. This is rejected in the epilogue, which states that even the righteous can suffer. The method used is a qualitative method with a thematic approach. The author identifies three central themes in retributive theology: the emphasis on rationality-morality, misconceptions about the nature of God from ancestral traditions, and God's judgment. These themes will be examined in the epilogue of the Book of Job, with attention to exegetical study of the epilogue's narrative. The research findings show that the epilogue rejects the idea of retributive theology through three main components: God's acceptance (42:7-8), Job's prayer to God (42:9), and Job's restoration (42:10-17). The epilogue of the Book of Job rejects the concept of retributive theology through these three interconnected components, based on the reasoning that (1) the relationship between God and humans is dynamic, and (2) God's grace is the source of restoration.

Abstract

The phenomenon of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) in the digital era has become a serious challenge impacting the mental health of church members, leading to anxiety, stress, and even depression if not properly addressed. This study aims to understand the impact of FOMO and explore the strategies and programs of churches in supporting the mental health and spiritual well-being of their congregants. This research uses a qualitative approach with literature review and a brief survey method. It identifies various efforts that churches can take to address FOMO. The results indicate that churches can mitigate the effects of FOMO by building a social support system that fosters closeness among church members, including spiritual retreats, workshops, counseling services, and mentoring programs. These findings provide practical guidance for churches to strengthen the Christian community as a safe and supportive place for individuals struggling with FOMO. To implement this, churches can form specialized support groups, integrate education about FOMO into sermons and discipleship classes, and wisely use digital media to create a more interactive and supportive community. Thus, the church plays an active role in creating a more inclusive, loving environment that promotes the holistic well-being of its members amid the challenges of the digital era.
