Abstract

resources, climate change, environmental degradation and distribution inequality are both opportunities and challenges. An Islamic economics-based approach offers a holistic solution by emphasising the principles of social justice, moral responsibility and sustainability. The method used in this research is qualitative with a descriptive approach to analyse the concept of food security through the story of Prophet Yusuf in QS. Yusuf: 46-48, which highlights food management strategies such as crop storage during surplus periods to deal with crises. The results show that the Prophet Yusuf's strategy, which is based on careful planning, wise utilisation of resources and sustainable management, is relevant to be applied in the modern Indonesian context. The implementation of these Islamic economic principles is proven to support efficient natural resource management, improve food security and maintain ecosystem sustainability. Through the integration of environmentally friendly technology and Islamic values-based policies, Indonesia has a great opportunity to realise sustainable resource management in Indonesia.

Abstract

Amidst the dominance of visual media in global popular culture and the challenge for Islamic da'wah to remain relevant, film has emerged as a crucial strategic medium for study. This article aims to explore the relationship between Islam and film through an interdisciplinary approach that includes a historical overview, visual aesthetic analysis, and contextual da'wah (Islamic preaching) values. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method through literature study, using thematic approaches, Islamic semiotics, and social hermeneutics. This study traces the development of cinema in the West, the East (particularly the Islamic world), and Indonesia, highlighting ideological and religious dynamics throughout film history. The analysis reveals that film holds great potential as a contemporary medium for da'wah, capable of symbolically and aesthetically articulating Islamic values. This article addresses a gap in previous studies, which have rarely integrated cross-regional film analysis with Islamic paradigms and modern da'wah.

Abstract

This research examines the construction of Qur'anic women in contemporary tafsir through a thematic and comparative approach to tafsir by Amin al-Harari, Wahbah az-Zuhaili, and Quraish Shihab. The research focuses on four main female figures in the Qur'an: Maryam, Asiyah, Queen Balqis, and Prophet Moses' mother. The findings show that the three mufasirs, despite having different manhajs - creed-centric, academic-fiqh, and contextual-humanist - agree that the greatness of Qur'anic women is determined by the qualities of faith, firmness, tawakkal, intelligence, and moral courage, not by gender or social position. Az-Zuhaili emphasises the legitimacy of female leadership and divine justice, al-Harari emphasises submission and spiritual depth, while Quraish Shihab emphasises contextual relevance and the human dimension. The thematic synthesis reveals that the Qur'anic woman is not a static ideal, but a process of spiritual and moral transformation that is relevant to the challenges of Muslim women today, including leadership inequality, work-family pressures, and identity stigma. The study concludes that contemporary tafsir opens space for a more inclusive, just and applicable understanding of the role of women in Islam.

Abstract

This research aims to analyse the concept of Zakat, Infaq, and Sadaqah (ZIS) based on the interpretation in Tafsir al-Munir by Wahbah az-Zuhaili and its implementation in the life of the people of Medan City. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive approach with the method of literature study and field observation. Analysis of Tafsir al-Munir shows that ZIS not only has the dimension of individual worship, but also contains strong social values in an effort to alleviate poverty and realise economic justice. The results of the field study in Medan City revealed that although public awareness of the importance of ZIS is quite high, the practice of its management and distribution still faces challenges, especially in terms of transparency and effectiveness of managing institutions. This research recommends increasing interpretation-based education and strengthening ZIS institutions to optimise the socio-economic role of ZIS at the local level.

Abstract

The thought discourse that the author means here is about ideas verbally and expressing his thoughts formally and regularly from the two figures, Aristotle and Al-Kindi. Aristotle himself was an early figure during the Peripatetic tradition whose learning method used logic and was carried out at a leisurely pace. Meanwhile, the philosopher Al-Kindi is a philosopher who is nicknamed the father of Islamic philosophy, because with his discipline, Al-Kindi has studied Islamic philosophical issues specifically and seriously. Apart from that, Al-kindi was the first philosopher who was able to combine religion and philosophy, as well as revelation and reason. This qualitative research aims to analyze more deeply the similarities and differences in the thoughts of Aristotle and Al-Kindi. Meanwhile, the results of this research reveal that there are differences in thoughts and similarities regarding the concepts of Soul and Divinity, one of which is that the Soul according to al-Kindi is eternal and impermanent according to Aristotle. The author found a discussion that was unique to the two philosophers regarding the soul and divinity. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method with analysis that utilizes data and collects data from various sources and then explains it descriptively.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of family conflict in the film Ipar Adalah Maut using a qualitative method with a Roland Barthes semiotic approach. The main objective is to uncover the layered meanings and ideologies built by the movie, then evaluate the narrative with family values in the Qur'an. Data were obtained through movie observation, review of Qur'anic commentaries (Ibn Kathir and al-Maraghi), and interviews with 10 respondents, consisting of unmarried and married groups, to enrich the analysis. The results of the semiotic analysis show that the movie, denotatively, presents an explicit story of infidelity that effectively evokes an emotional response. At the connotation level, the film builds a contrast between religious appearance and fragile morality, as well as connoting the in-law relationship as a hidden threat. Ultimately, the movie creates the myth that infidelity is an inevitable consequence of human weakness. However, when this myth is confronted with family values in the Qur'an, a more robust discourse emerges. The Qur'ān offers a strong foundation of marriage, namely sakinah, mawaddah and rahmah, built on moral commitment and responsibility. Respondents intuitively rejected this destructive myth and instead used the movie as a mirror to reflect on the importance of returning to Qur'anic values as practical guidance. Thus, the study concludes that while movies can serve as critical mirrors, the findings also confirm the relevance of Qur'anic values in building resilient families, challenging the myth of fragility often portrayed in popular media.

Abstract

The phenomenon of cyber begging is a digital social practice that utilizes public empathy through social media. This research aims to analyze the phenomenon based on the interpretation of QS.  Al-Baqarah/2:273, and examine it from the perspective of social-digital literacy. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through literature study and thematic interpretation analysis. The results show that the practice of cyber begging contradicts the principle of al-'iffah (maintaining self-respect) as outlined in the Quran. In addition, this phenomenon often blurs the line between solidarity and exploitation of public empathy. Therefore, Islamic value-based digital literacy education is needed to build a digitally smart and ethical society.

Abstract

Muslim society today is faced with the problem of financial management, particularly regarding the distribution of wealth which has two sides: infaq, as a form of constructive expenditure, and tahlukah, namely the destructive use of wealth. These two concepts are reflected in QS. Al-Baqarah: 195 which contains the command to spend infaq in the way of Allah and the prohibition of throwing oneself into destruction. This verse becomes a normative basis in building Islamic financial ethics that touch on spiritual, social, and structural aspects. This study aims to examine the interpretation of Sheikh Abdurrauf as-Singkili in Tarjumān al-Mustafīd and Imam Nawawi al-Bantani in Mir’āt al-Labīb on the verse in the context of wealth management. Using descriptive qualitative methods and content analysis, this study explores the meaning of infaq and tahlukah in the socio-economic life of Muslims in the archipelago. The results show that infaq is seen as a form of obedience and social concern, while tahlukah is a result of stinginess and negligence towards social obligations. Abdurrauf emphasized a spiritual and moral approach, while Nawawi emphasized the structural and practical dimensions of wealth management, including financing education, mosques, and Islamic outreach. In conclusion, Nusantara interpretation of Islamic thought can ground Quranic values in local contexts and contribute to shaping contextual, moderate, and equitable Islamic financial ethics.

Abstract

This study examines the responses of Islamic leaders to the presence of Muslims in the Bakar Tongkang celebration in Bagansiapiapi, Rokan Hilir, Riau, with a focus on its social and theological implications. This tradition, which originated from the Chinese ethnic group, contains religious symbolism, giving rise to debates about the limits of participation in accordance with the principle of tasyabbuh. The objectives of this study are to explore the views of religious leaders, analyze the socio-theological consequences, and formulate alternative approaches to religious moderation in a multicultural society. The research method used is qualitative with a case study. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with the Head of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Rohil, representatives of the Riau Provincial Ministry of Religious Affairs, and local religious scholars, as well as direct observation of the Bakar Tongkang procession. Secondary data included classical and contemporary hadith literature, studies on religious moderation, and ethnographic studies. The analysis used the Miles & Huberman model with triangulation of sources and methods to ensure validity. The results showed that the MUI prohibited Muslims from becoming “players” in the core rituals but allowed them to be “spectators” for the sake of harmony. The Ministry of Religious Affairs emphasizes religious moderation, while local scholars emphasize respect without participation. The study recommends the narrative of “respecting without attending” and strengthening the role of institutions, education based on maqashid syariah, and inclusive cultural mediation to maintain faith and tolerance.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of emotion regulation in the story of Prophet Yunus based on Hamka’s interpretation in Tafsir Al Azhar, using a psychological approach. The research background highlights the urgency of emotion regulation as a crucial skill in facing life’s challenges, particularly in the modern era, which is prone to stress, anxiety, and mental disorders. The novelty of this study lies in the thematic analysis of Qur’anic verses related to Prophet Yunus (Surah Ash-Shaffāt/37: 139–148, Surah Al-Anbiyā’/21: 87–88, Surah Al-Qalam/68: 48–50), integrating emotion regulation theories by James Gross, Oliver P. John, and Ross A. Thompson, along with Zakiah Daradjat’s Islamic psychology perspective. The research adopts a qualitative method based on library research with a descriptive-interpretative analysis. The findings reveal that Prophet Yunus regulated his emotions through stages of self-admission of faults, surrender to Allah, cognitive reappraisal, attentional deployment, and spiritual recovery, culminating in successful da’wah. The main factors influencing the effectiveness of his emotion regulation were steadfast faith and cognitive ability to reinterpret situations positively. The study concludes that effective emotion regulation requires a synergy between spirituality and psychological strategies.
