Abstract

The nature of every war is the same, whether in Asian countries, in Vietnam or anywhere else. However, in reality and literature, war always brings many faces, depending on which aspects and which perspectives it is seen and explained. From the gender perspective, we believe that under a certain aspect “a war has a female face”. Contemporary Vietnamese fiction describes war from the view of “feminine disposition”, realizes women’s beauty during and after war and condemns the brutal destruction of war from the fate of women. From the feminist perspective on war, contemporary Vietnamese fiction also mentions the instinctive desire, the desire to be loved, to be a wife, a mother of women; as well as condemns sexual prejudices to women.

Abstract

Discourse markers (DMs) play a crucial role in writing as ‘linking words’, ‘linking phrases’, or ‘sentence connectors’ that bind ideas between sentences in a paragraph  or between paragraphs to  build  coherence  in a text.  DMs should be sufficiently but not overly used in writing. As EFL learners find it difficult to identify the types, functions, and positions of DMs to link ideas in their academic writing, this article attempts to share an instrument in the form of DMs checklist to help learners enhance their knowledge of DMs. The checklist can also be used as teacher/peer feedback form in the writing process.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to elaborate on the use of grammatical cohesion student assignment. The research method is content analysis. Data source is the text contained in the student assignment Indonesian Language and Literature Education. The data in the form of grammatical cohesion. Data analysed with the method content analysis. The results showed that: first, the pronouns. The use of pronouns we and they are often used in stringing sentences students conducted again. Second, the substitution. Substitution that occurs in the tasks students are generally limited to the replacement of the word or group of words with pronouns. Third, the elepsis. Elepsis in student assignments sometimes occur due to the removal of appropriate words must be present in the sentence. Fourth, conjunctions. Conjunctions are used in student writing right there and some are not appropriate. Abstract

The interpretation of Javanes wisdom can be found in Indonesian modern poetry by decoding the cultural tradition of wayang story, mystical stories and folklore. One of Javanes wisdom ojo dumeh (don’t be arrogant) is found in the poem Parksit and revealed in chapter VII. “Telinga” poetry exposed the value of cultural wisdom Java manunggaling kawula Gusti (self discovery), from the mystical story of Dewa Ruci. The poem “Asmaradana” and “Dongeng Sebelum Tidur” showed the meaning of sincerity sacrifice and firmness in keeping promises which was inpired by a folklore entitled King Anglingdarma and Damarwulan.

Abstract

Semiotics  is a set of analysis  that has been applied in linguistics  and anthropology.  This  article  is  focused  on  language  and  cultural  symbols  that  are stated in pasang ri Kajang and will be analyzed based on grand theory of semantics.This research used a qualitative research perspective. The validity of data is examined by collecting the data collecting through interview, recording, taking note, elicitation and Focus Group Study. The result of the research indicates that Pasang ri Kajang contains a holy ancestor messages that has been transferred in oral tradition. These messages contain some local wisdoms of sustainable environmental management.  The topic of this research is local knowledge  system that concerns with hydraulic cycle system that is stated in some matters of pasang ri Kajang. The relationship between the matters build a substantial concept that concerns with hydraulic cycle system in ecology.

Abstract

The implementation of EDDU as a source of ideas for digital German language teachingIn the industrial revolution 4.0 era, digital media is an important instrument in all aspects, including in the field of education. Twenty first century teachers are required to have the abilities and skills to utilize media, including digital media. This study aims to provide information for German language teachers and find out their perceptions of the use of Erfolgreich Digital Deutsch Unterrichten (EDDU) media in the learning process. EDDU is an internet-based digital media in the form of learning package, containing materials and learning steps such as games or quizzes. This study implemented a qualitative approach. Data were collected through observations, Forum Group Discussion (FGD), and questionnaires, resulting in qualitative and quantitative data that were described descriptively. The study involved German teachers in Malang, Indonesia.  Results of the study indicates that EDDU can be used as a multimedia alternative. It offers teaching ideas and materials that can help teachers to prepare their lessons and present the materials. By using EDDU, German language teachers are able to improve the convenience in their teaching. EDDU is shown to have followed Indonesian high schools syllabus, the materials in EDDU have provided supports for online learning. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan informasi kepada guru bahasa Jerman dan mengetahui persepsi mereka terhadap penggunaan media digital Erfolgreich Digital Deutsch Unterrichten (EDDU) dalam pembelajaran. EDDU merupakan media berbasis internet berupa paket pembelajaran yang berisi materi dan langkah-langkah pembelajaran dalam bentuk permainan atau kuis. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Pengumpulan datanya menggunakan observasi, FGD, dan angket yang menghasilkan data kualitatif dan kuantitatif, serta dipaparkan secara deskriptif. Sumber datanya adalah guru bahasa Jerman di Malang, Indonesia. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa media EDDU dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif multimedia. EDDU menawarkan ide mengajar dan materi-materi yang dapat membantu guru menyiapkan pembelajaran dan menyampaikan materi. Dengan menggunakan EDDU, guru bahasa Jerman mendapatkan kemudahan dalam mengajar. Materi dalam EDDU sesuai dengan silabus Sekolah Menengah Atas atau Madrasah Aliyah. Materi yang diberikan mendukung pembelajaran online, dan kegiatan dengan menggunakan EDDU dapat membuat kelas lebih aktif dan menarik.Kata kunci: EDDU, multimedia, bahasa Jerman, daF

Abstract

This study aims to develop the the teaching and learning model of kalam (conversation) based on phonetic accuracy to improve students’ ability in speaking Arabic. The research was conducted through questionnaires, interviews, error analysis, and content analysis. The results of the study described as follows. There are two forms of phonetic errors in student’s pronunciation, namely the segmental and supra-segmental errors; most of the teachers and students did not care to the phonetic errors on students speech; however, most of them consider that it is important to have a special emphasis on the phonetic element  in learning kalam; the teaching material subjects of kalam used all this time did not emphasize  specifically on phonetic accuracy; and the teachers and students suggested that the textbook of kalam be completed with special training of phonetic accuracy and be done early. Based on these results, the teaching and learning models of kalam need to be designed

Abstract

The presentation structure of “Lahire Naga Tahun” in Wayang Topeng Malang theatrical dance Dramatari Wayang Topeng shows the diversity of characters, the variety of movements, the diversity of costumes, and the diversity of stories. Dramatari Wayang Topeng show is taken from the Panji story, which is oral literature. 17 stories have been developed by the puppeteers at Padepokan Asmara Bangun, Malang Regency. There is one story that is only performed on certain days, namely the month of Sura, which is the month of reckoning Javanese or Javanese new year, which is entitled Lahire Naga Tahun. The purpose of this research is to describe the presentation structure of "Lahire Naga Tahun" in the Malang mask puppet show. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the Lahire Naga Tahun story is based on the results of the development by the puppeteers consisting of 4 episodes, namely (1) Sekartaji Palsu (Fake Sekartaji), (2) Lahire Panji Laras (the birth of Panji Laras), (3) Sayembara Adu Jago (Adu Jago Competition), and (4) Lahire Naga Tahun (the birth of Naga Tahun). The four episodes are presented consecutively with a show time of approximately 2 hours. Each episode contains several scenes. The Sekartaji Palsu episode consists of 4 scenes, namely Partapan, Kingdom of Rancong Kencana, Jenggala Soldier and Keputren. The Lahire Panji Laras episode consists of 2 stages, namely Kaputren and Lolaras. The Sayembara Adu Jago consists of 2 steps, namely Karang Pradesan and Alun-Alun. Terdapat 17 cerita yang sudah dikembangkan oleh dalang di Padepokan Asmara Bangun Kabupaten Malang. Terdapat salah satu cerita yang hanya di pertunjukan pada hari tertentu saja yaitu bulan Sura yang merupakan bulan penghitungan Jawa atau tahun baru Jawa yaitu berjudul Lahire Naga Tahun. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mendeskripsikan struktur penyajian “Lahire Naga Tahun” dalam pertunjukan Wayang Topeng Malang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskripstif. Pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa cerita Lahire Naga Tahun berdasarkan hasil pengembangan oleh Dalang terdiri dari 4 episode yaitu (1) Sekartaji Palsu, (2) Lahire Panji Laras, (3) Sayembara Adu Jago, dan (4) Lahire Naga Tahun. Keempat episode tersebut disajikan secara berurutan dengan waktu pertunjukan kurang lebih 2 jam. Setiap episode terdapat beberapa adegan. Episode Sekartaji Palsu terdiri dari 4 adegan yaitu Partapan, Kerajaan Rancong Kencana, Prajurit Jenggala dan Keputren. Episode Lahire Panji Laras terdiri dari 2 adegan yaitu Kaputren dan Lolaras. Sayembara Adu Jago terdiri dari 2 adegan yaitu Karang Pradesan dan Alun-Alun. Abstract

The aim of the present study is to investigate and record archaic words and expressions in Mandailingese, an ethnic language spoken in the regency of Mandailing-Natal, North Sumatra. The design of this study is qualitative-descriptivein which the data were collected by interviewing eight native speaker informants and by examining some old written texts of  Mandailingese culture. The result of the studyshows that there are approximately 350 archaic words and expressions found and recorded. They are categorized into noun, verb, adjective, and adverb.

Abstract

This study was conducted to explore and describe the clarity, the naturalness, the emotional expressions and the styles used in the translation of Hansel and Gretel fairytale. The data were collected through document analysis and analysed by using three main steps, namely data reduction, data display, and data conclusion and verification. The results showed that (1) there are many forms which are not clear and not easy to understand; (2) there are many forms which are correct grammatically but not natural; (3) emotion is expressed through words, phrases and sentences which describe anger, fear, sadness, joy and calmness; and (4) there are five styles used by the translator: simile, hyperbol, assonace, repetition and personification.  Permalink/DOI: dx.doi.org/10.17977/um015v45i12017p064
