Abstract

The PROLANIS is a program conducted by Ngemplak 1 Primary Health Care that gives general clinical examination and activity for patients with diabetes and hypertension.  The participants of the PROLANIS program are elderly people with age 50 years old. The nutrition knowledge of PROLANIS members was low, which led them to often ask about good food to maintain blood glucose and blood pressure remained normal. However, the activities to increase knowledge about diet are rarely carried out due to limited human resources at Ngemplak 1 Primary Health Care. Therefore, the counselling method using pocket books about food choices to maintain normal blood glucose levels and blood pressure is carried out to increase knowledge and is expected to improve the quality of life of PROLANIS members. At the end of the session, participants were given a questionnaire to select recommended and restricted foods to manage blood glucose and blood pressure. The result showed that more than 50% of the participants answered the question correctly. This indicated that more than 50% of the participants had understood the counselling materials.

Abstract

The phenomenon of tidal flood in the northern coastal areas of Java Island, which frequently occurs nowadays, is likely a consequence of rising sea levels due to global warming. The phenomena of urbanization and industrialization in the northern coastal areas of Tegal Regency can also contribute to the increase in built-up areas, adding pressure to the land surface in the coastal regions. Additionally, intensive groundwater extraction is occurring in densely populated coastal areas due to various activities. The high concentration of industrial and residential zones along the coast of Tegal Regency, coupled with extensive land subsidence due to intensive water abstraction, can lead to subsidence phenomena. The combination of rising sea levels and land subsidence can exacerbate the impact of tidal floods, making them more widespread and severe. The coastal areas of Tegal Regency are among those frequently affected by tidal floods. Analyzing tidal floods is crucial for integrated coastal management to support regional development. Assistance in developing a tidal flood mitigation plan in this coastal area is instrumental for local governments in planning and spatial arrangement in Tegal Regency. Support has been provided to local authorities, including BAPPEDA and Litbang Tegal Regency, to plan spatial arrangements in the northern coastal areas of Tegal Regency. The assistance activities include drone photography in the most severely affected areas, such as Kramat District. Additionally, the team periodically measures elevation to help local governments identify the potential occurrence of land subsidence. Furthermore, a Forum Group Discussion has been conducted to formulate the most suitable mitigation plan considering the conditions in Tegal Regency.

Abstract

SDIT Tahfidzul Qur'an Mutiara Insan Sukoharjo is an Islamic school that aims to correlate science with the Qur'an. One approach is through observing celestial objects, but the school currently lacks a telescope to provide students with hands-on experience. This community service program aims to educate participants about space using Stellarium simulation software and direct observation of celestial objects with a telescope. The program was carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The activities were attended by 9 teachers and 120 students. The program included educational sessions on utilizing telescopes for celestial observation, which successfully increased participants' enthusiasm for learning about celestial objects. The use of Stellarium software provided participants with a new experience by simulating various functions to display visualizations of celestial phenomena. Telescope-based observation also became a novel experience, with many participants eager to try observing through the telescope. The high level of enthusiasm among participants indicates that similar activities should be conducted regularly to boost motivation in learning about celestial objects.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a collection of symptoms that arise in a person due to the body experiencing problems in controlling blood sugar levels. The lower the knowledge, the higher the blood sugar levels. The low knowledge of respondents about DM disease makes respondents unable to control blood sugar levels. This community service aimed to enhance public knowledge about DM prevention through education on local food consumption and healthy behaviors. The activity was carried out in Kedungmundu, Semarang City, in August 2024, with the participation of 39 people. The education was delivered through lectures, discussions, and a booklet, containing information about DM, recommended diets, and the use of local food. The results of the activity showed a significant improvement in community knowledge about DM prevention, with post-test scores higher than pre-test scores. This increase indicates that education through lectures and booklets was effective in disseminating health information. With better knowledge, the community is expected to adopt healthier behaviors that can reduce the prevalence of DM, particularly through the use of lokal food. This activity made an important contribution to promotive and preventive efforts to control DM within the community. Future research is recommended to explore the impact of increased knowledge on changes in community attitudes and behaviors in DM prevention.

Abstract

The digital marketing efforts carried out by the village tourism group partners remain basic and minimal. The product and service photos presented have not yet incorporated appealing and aesthetically pleasing photography elements. This activity aims to improve partners' skills in photography and digital content creation, which are very important in promoting their pottery products in the digital era. The main method of this program is to equip partners with basic photography skills, such as selecting interesting objects, the right shooting angles, and using natural and artificial lighting to produce professional photos. These skills are crucial because the quality of the photos affects the attractiveness of the product in the eyes of consumers. In addition to photography, partners are also guided in creating creative content in the form of videos of the pottery making process, which adds unique value to the product, as well as compiling informative and effective product descriptions. The training was attended by 48 participants, with 96% stating that there was an increase in understanding about digital marketing.

Abstract

The management of hazardous and toxic waste (B3) and household pharmaceutical waste is a critical issue due to its adverse effects on human health and the environment. B3 waste, such as used batteries, light bulbs, spent oil, and aerosol cans, poses a significant risk of contaminating soil, water, and air if not properly managed. Pharmaceutical waste, including expired or damaged medications, also has the potential to harm public health. Improper disposal can lead to pollution, causing acute health problems such as neurological damage and respiratory disorders, as well as long-term risks such as cancer and genetic mutations. To address this issue, an community program was conducted for the community in Dusun Gonggangan, Bolon, Colomadu, Karanganyar, involving the local women's community group (PKK). The method employed consisted of education through presentations and interactive Q&A sessions. The materials covered waste identification, segregation, storage, and disposal according to proper waste management standards. Interactive discussions encouraged active community participation to understand and adopt responsible household waste management practices. The results showed an increase in community awareness regarding the proper management of B3 and household pharmaceutical waste. The implementation of appropriate waste management practices is expected to mitigate the negative impacts of waste on health and the environment. Thus, effective waste management contributes to improved public health and supports environmental sustainability and ecosystem preservation.
