Abstract

Encounters between religious communities are the gateway to knowing, understanding and tolerance. This was done by Catholic children from Joy Kids International Tasikmalaya Elementary School who visited the Darussalam Ciamis Islamic Boarding School. This encounter is packaged through the "Dulur Ulin" (Playmates) Festival. It is hoped that through this activity, children can find interfaith playmates. This encounter then becomes a new parenting model regarding the introduction of diversity of beliefs for parents and children. Because of the memory of encounters with different cultures and religions. Children can explore various cultures, cultures and religions through this festival. This article uses qualitative methods and a phenomenological approach to see to what extent this activity provides meaning for parents and children to see that the memory of fraternal encounters between religious communities can have an impact on thought patterns and attitudes for parents and children. So the analysis used is Neuroparenting, because the "Dulur Ulin" festival activities are expected to become a parenting program, namely introducing children to a diversity of beliefs. As a result, through meeting activities using traditional Sundanese games, children were able to establish communication, socialize and even explore good friends from Catholics and Muslims. The impression of happiness when playing with friends provides positive memories in seeing that differences in culture, culture and religion can still unite them in the game. So the "Dulur Ulin" festival can be used as a means of meeting between religious communities to build a memory of brotherhood for children.

The study concludes that the concept of religious tolerance in Islamic teachings has been realized in the historical reality of Islamic civilization.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the concept of the validity of "talaqqathu al-ummah bi al-qabul", with a focus on the case of the hadith regarding changes in the purity of water due to impurity entering it which changes its smell, color and taste. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method. Data was collected through analysis of hadith books, primary sources of hadith, and fiqh literature. The research results show that there is a concept of external validity used by hadith experts, namely the concept of "talaqqathu al-ummah bi al-qabul." In the case of the hadith on changing the purity of water, even though the sanad is considered da’if, al-Shafi'i and al-Baihaqi judge it to be authentic because of the ijma that strengthens it. This research has implications for a broader understanding of the external hadith validity criteria used by hadith experts.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the concept of magic (sihr) in the Qur’an using an encyclopedic semantic approach. The formal object of this research is the semantic study of the Qur’an, while the material object is the concept of magic in the Qur’an. The context of this study is encyclopedic semantics. The research method is qualitative, employing descriptive-analytical methods and is based on library research. The findings of this study indicate that the word sihr in the Qur’an has a basic meaning of the last part of the night, before the break of dawn, where the darkness of the night meets the light of dawn. This makes anything present during that time appear unclear and indistinct. This meaning is also found in pre-Islamic poetry texts and authoritative Arabic dictionaries. Moreover, the basic meanings found in these dictionaries include meanings reflected in the Qur’an, such as ambiguity, hiddenness, deception, and others. Additionally, the meaning of sihr in the Qur’an has undergone a shift toward a more specific negative connotation. This is evidenced by the frequent association of the term sihr with negative words or meanings in the Qur’an, although the Qur’an still retains its basic meanings from the pre-Islamic period, such as the dawn, something attractive and beautiful, as well as abundance in food and drink.

Abstract

This research focuses on the importance of religious moderation in the pluralistic society of Indonesia, where tolerance and dogma often clash in religious practice. Although religious moderation is widely regarded as an effort to create social harmony, challenges arise when religious dogmas are seen as unquestionable truths. The purpose of this study is to explore how religious moderation can be applied more inclusively through the lens of the philosophy of religion and to find ways to balance tolerance and dogma. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design involving in-depth interviews with religious leaders, community figures, and policy document analysis. The findings show that while religious moderation holds the potential to foster social harmony, its application is often hindered by the rigidity of religious dogmas. The contribution of this research is the discovery that the philosophy of religion can provide a more flexible framework for bridging the tension between dogma and tolerance, allowing religious moderation to be more adaptively implemented in a pluralistic society. This research provides new insights into developing a more inclusive and contextual approach to religious moderation, which can strengthen social harmony in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines Bassam Tibi’s perspective on fundamentalism and critiques its limitations. Using textual and documentary study methods, this study examines fundamentalism as an important phenomenon in the modern era. Bassam Tibi, a prominent Muslim thinker and professor, distinguishes Islam as a religion and civilization from Islamism as a politicized ideology aimed at socio-political and economic goals. He critiques Islamism as a fundamentalism that abuses religious principles for political purposes. Tibi advocates the modernization of Islamic education to promote cultural progress and counter fundamentalist ideology. However, Tibi’s perspective has weaknesses. He oversimplifies the diversity of fundamentalist movements, conflates fundamentalism with radicalism and terrorism, and emphasizes political solutions while ignoring cultural approaches. This study highlights the need for a more nuanced understanding of fundamentalism, taking into account its socio-political roots and diverse manifestations while exploring alternative strategies to address its challenges in Muslim societies. Tibi’s thinking remains valuable but needs refinement to better address the complexities of fundamentalism in the contemporary context.

Abstract

The unification of the Islamic calendar is an important issue in bridging differences in calendars in various Muslim countries. This article examines the unification of the calendar from the perspective of Qur'anic exegesis, with a focus on verses relating to the determination of time, months, and astronomical signs. This analysis uses a thematic interpretation approach (tafsīr maudū‘ī) to identify the theological and methodological foundations in supporting the harmonization of the global Islamic calendar. The results of the study show that there is legitimacy in the Al-Qur'an to build a calendar agreement based on sharia principles and modern astronomy. This article offers an academic contribution to cross-national dialogue on the issue of the Islamic calendar.
