Abstract

Introduction: Insomnia is a common sleep disorder among elderly and is associated with physical, psychological, and functional decline. The prevalence of insomnia increases with aging and may negatively affect quality of life if left untreated. Non-pharmacological interventions are recommended as safe and effective strategies to improve sleep quality in the elderly. One such intervention is the Benson Relaxation Technique, which promotes relaxation through controlled breathing and mental focus. This study aims to examine the effect of Benson Relaxation Therapy on insomnia in elderly. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of Benson relaxation therapy on insomnia in the elderly at the Simpang Rusa Community Health Center, Belitung. Method: The study design used a pre-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test in one group. A total of 10 elderly individuals received Benson relaxation therapy for one week. Insomnia levels were measured using the Toward Optimized Practice (TOP) screening questionnaire and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Result: The results showed a significant decrease in insomnia levels after the intervention. The Z-value was -2.814 with a significance value of p = 0.005 (<0.05), indicating that Benson relaxation therapy significantly reduced insomnia in the elderly. Conclusion: From these results, it can be concluded that Benson relaxation therapy is effective in improving sleep quality in the elderly with insomnia. It is recommended that the elderly practice Benson relaxation independently and regularly. Community health centers (Puskesmas) consider this therapy as a non-pharmacological intervention in elderly healthcare. Further research is recommended to combine Benson relaxation with aromatherapy for optimal results.

Abstract

Introduction: Obesity has become a significant global public health issue. A variety of intervention strategies have been implemented, encompassing dietary modifications, physical activity, pharmacological treatments, and surgical procedures. Among these, the Paleolithic (Paleo) diet modeled after the presumed dietary patterns of humans during the Paleolithic era has attracted increasing scholarly attention as a potential nutritional approach for obesity management. Objective: This study aims to systematically review and evaluate the effectiveness of the Paleolithic (Paleo) diet in reducing body weight among individuals with obesity. Through an analysis of existing research, this review seeks to identify the benefits, limitations, and long-term sustainability of the Paleo diet as a weight management strategy. Method: This study aims to systematically review and evaluate the effectiveness of the Paleolithic (Paleo) diet in reducing body weight among individuals with obesity. Through an analysis of existing research, this review seeks to identify the benefits, limitations, and long-term sustainability of the Paleo diet as a weight management strategy. Results: A total of 880 participants were included across the seven reviewed studies. The findings revealed that the Paleo diet was effective in promoting weight loss among individuals with obesity. Participants who adhered to the Paleo diet for eight weeks experienced an average reduction of 5.3 kilograms in body weight. Conclusion: The Paleolithic diet (PD) is effective in reducing body weight, fat mass, and cardiometabolic risk factors compared with conventional diets, particularly in the short term. However, low adherence poses a major challenge, leading to diminished differences in benefits over the long term. Compared with the Mediterranean diet and intermittent fasting, adherence to PD is lower, and thus its long-term effectiveness requires further investigation.

Abstract

Introduction: Bronchiolitis is a major cause of hospitalization in infants and remains a leading respiratory challenge in paediatric care worldwide. Triggered mainly by the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), this condition causes airway inflammation, mucus obstruction, and respiratory distress that can rapidly progress to oxygenation failure. While most cases are self-limiting, inadequate nursing interventions often lead to prolonged illness and complications. Therefore, implementing evidence-based nursing strategies, including observation, education, therapeutic, and collaborative approaches, is essential to ensure comprehensive respiratory management and faster recovery in affected infants. Objective: This study aims to analyse the implementation of nursing care strategies through observation, education, therapeutic, and collaborative approaches to optimize respiratory management and recovery in infants with bronchiolitis. Method: This study used a literature review design by analysing six relevant articles published between 2021 and 2025 obtained from Google Scholar. The literature selection followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, focusing on the implementation of nursing strategies in managing respiratory problems in bronchiolitis. Result: The review found that observation was the most frequently applied nursing intervention, serving as the foundation for assessing physiological responses. Therapeutic and collaborative actions, such as chest physiotherapy, semi-fowler, positioning, nebulization, and oxygen therapy, were effective in improving oxygen saturation and reducing respiratory effort. Educational interventions, although less common, significantly strengthened family involvement and awareness of home care practices. The integration of these four strategies enhanced recovery, improved comfort, and demonstrated measurable clinical benefits for infants with bronchiolitis. Conclusion: The balanced and evidence-based application of observation, education, therapeutic, and collaborative strategies strengthens nursing care quality, accelerates respiratory recovery, and reinforces the nurse’s essential role in holistic management of bronchiolitis

Abstract

Introduction: Intraoperative hemodynamic fluctuations during general anesthesia are clinically important because reduced Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) may compromise organ perfusion and contribute to postoperative complications. Despite growing awareness of the need for hemodynamic control, variations in MAP across different patient characteristics and surgical types remain insufficiently documented in clinical practice. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate intraoperative MAP patterns in patients undergoing general anesthesia and to identify variations based on demographic and clinical factors. Method: A descriptive observational design was applied to 61 elective surgical patients with ASA physical status I–II at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. Intraoperative MAP measurements were recorded using standardized patient monitoring systems. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Result: The mean intraoperative MAP was 69.49 ± 4.32 mmHg. Although most respondents maintained normotensive values, 8.2% experienced hypotension below the 65 mmHg threshold. Higher MAP values were observed in patients aged 41–50 years, those with ASA II status, and those undergoing lower abdominal surgery. Lower MAP values were more common in urology procedures and among ASA I patients. Conclusion: Although the overall MAP level remained within the acceptable clinical range, the presence of intraoperative hypotension in a subset of patients underscores the importance of proactive, individualized hemodynamic monitoring. Variations in MAP across demographic and surgical factors highlight the need for patient-specific hemodynamic targets to ensure optimal intraoperative safety.

Abstract

Introduction: The development of digital technology has driven increased social media use, particularly among teenagers. Increased access to social media has the potential to reduce physical activity levels and encourage a sedentary lifestyle. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between the dominant social media platforms accessed and the level of sedentary lifestyle in adolescents at SMPN X Bandung City. Method: This research method used a quantitative correlational approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample was selected using a proportionate random sampling technique from students in grades VII, VIII, and IX. The instruments used were a self-report questionnaire to determine the dominant social media platform and the Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ) to measure the level of sedentary lifestyle. Data analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression tests using JASP software. Result: The results showed that the regression model was significant (F = 16.954; p < .001) with an R² value of 0.196, which means that 19.6% of the variation in sedentary lifestyle can be explained by the use of TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp, and YouTube platforms. Partially, TikTok (p < .001) and YouTube (p = .005) significantly influenced sedentary lifestyle, with TikTok being the most dominant platform influencing sedentary lifestyle levels in adolescents. Meanwhile, Instagram (p = .081) and WhatsApp (p = .927) did not show a significant effect. Conclusion: This study concludes that certain social media platforms, particularly TikTok and YouTube, are associated with increased sedentary lifestyles in adolescents. These findings can be used as a basis for schools, parents, and health agencies in developing education and interventions to reduce sedentary lifestyles by regulating social media use more wisely.
