Abstract

Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is a common reproductive health problem among adolescent females and is often associated with various lifestyle factors, including smoking behavior. The increasing use of conventional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes among young women raises concerns regarding their potential impact on menstrual pain. Objective: This study aimed to compare the level of dysmenorrhea between adolescent females who use conventional cigarettes and those who use electronic cigarettes. Method: This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design and involved 70 respondents aged 15–24 years in Sumedang Regency, consisting of 35 conventional cigarette users and 35 electronic cigarette users. Data were collected using an online and offline questionnaire that included demographic characteristics, smoking behavior adapted from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS), and menstrual pain measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test with a significance level of 0.05. Result: The results showed that most respondents in both groups experienced severe dysmenorrhea, with mean pain scores of 7.114 for conventional cigarette users and 7.200 for electronic cigarette users. Statistical analysis indicated no significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.833). Conclusion: These findings suggest that both types of smoking may have similar biological impacts on menstrual pain due to the presence of nicotine. Further studies are recommended to assess additional confounding factors and measure nicotine exposure more precisely.

Abstract

Introduction: Maternal to child transmission of infectious diseases such as HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B remains a major global health concern. The “Triple Elimination” program integrates early detection and prevention strategies for these infections within maternal health services. However, limited maternal knowledge and awareness impede optimal screening participation, especially in developing regions. Educational interventions using audiovisual media such as videos have shown promise in improving maternal understanding and promoting health-seeking behavior. Objective: To determine the effect of video-based education on the knowledge of pregnant women regarding triple elimination screening at RSUD Mgr. Gabriel Manek, SVD., Atambua, Belu. Method: A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted among 32 pregnant women attending antenatal care (ANC) during October–November 2025. Participants received an educational intervention using a health education video about triple elimination. Data on knowledge were collected using a validated questionnaire, and statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Result: The median knowledge score before the intervention was 13 (minimum 5; maximum 15), while after the intervention it increased to 16 (minimum 13; maximum 16). Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference in pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.001), indicating that video-based education effectively improved maternal knowledge. Conclusion: Video-based education significantly enhances pregnant women’s knowledge regarding triple elimination screening. The use of audiovisual media in maternal health education should be integrated into antenatal services to strengthen awareness and early detection of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B.

Abstract

Introduction: The high rates of maternal and neonatal mortality remain a major global health challenge, with non-obstetric complications and hypertensive disorders being the dominant causes of death. Although the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Handbook is used as a monitoring instrument, incomplete data recording by healthcare providers continues to hinder the early detection of high-risk conditions. Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between attitudes, workloads, and work environment to the performance of midwives in filling out the KIA book in the early detection of high-risk pregnant women in the Tarogong Kidul sub-district area in 2024. Method: The research method is quantitative research, with a descriptive analytical method with a Cross Sectional design. The sample of this research is a midwife in the working area of Tarogong Kidul Garut District with a sampling technique using total sampling. The data analysis used used the Chi square statistical test. Results: The study showed that workload and work environment can affect the work performance of midwives with a sig value (p=<0.05) in filling out the KIA book in the early detection of high-risk pregnant women. Conclusion: this study shows that workload and work environment are significantly related to midwife's performance in filling out the KIA book.

Abstract

Introduction: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a major public health issue, particularly among men who have sex with men (MSM). Generation Z (Gen-Z) constitutes an increasing proportion of new HIV infections and is characterized by openness toward identity, sexuality, and digital engagement. Despite this, limited research has explored the sexual experiences of HIV-positive Gen-Z individuals with homosexual orientation, especially within the Indonesian context. Understanding these experiences is crucial to addressing psychosocial needs and improving holistic care. Objective: This study aimed to explore the lived sexual experiences of HIV-positive Gen-Z patients with homosexual orientation who are undergoing antiretroviral treatment at RSUD Umar Wirahadikusumah. Method: A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted to capture participants’ subjective experiences. Three HIV-positive Gen-Z MSM receiving antiretroviral therapy were recruited using purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns and key themes. Result: Five main themes emerged from the analysis: (1) changes in the meaning of sexuality after HIV diagnosis; (2) fear of HIV transmission and rejection; (3) negotiation of sexual safety and intimacy; (4) experiences of stigma and discrimination; and (5) resilience and self-acceptance shaped by Gen-Z characteristics such as openness, authenticity, and digital literacy. Participants described significant emotional, social, and behavioral adjustments in their sexual lives influenced by health status, social responses, and access to information. Conclusion: The sexual experiences of HIV-positive Gen-Z MSM are shaped by interconnected biological, psychological, social, and generational factors. Gen-Z values contribute to adaptive coping, yet stigma remains a major challenge. These findings highlight the need for holistic, inclusive, and non-discriminatory nursing care, as well as targeted sexual health counseling and stigma-reduction interventions to improve quality of life among HIV-positive Gen-Z MSM.

Abstract

Introduction: The quick development of social media has become an important aspect of students’ lives, including its influence on lifestyle formation and eating behavior patterns. Extensive exposure to visual content, food-related posts, digital advertisements, and online social interactions has the potential to affect tendencies toward uncontrolled eating and emotional eating. Objective: The purpose of this study is to ascertain how nursing students at the Indonesia university of education, Sumedang Campus, use social media in relation to their eating habits. Methods: A quantitative method with a cross-sectional design was used, which included 215 respondents selected through probability sampling. Data were collected using the Social Networking Time Use Scale (SONTUS) to measure social media use intensity and the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ) to assess eating behaviors. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. Result: The results indicate a significant relationship between social media use intensity and students’ eating behavior (p-value < 0.05). These findings suggest that higher social media use intensity may influence eating patterns, including tendencies toward uncontrolled eating, emotional eating, and eating triggered by digital environmental cues. Conclusion: This study provides a foundation for developing digital literacy programs and promotive interventions aimed at encouraging healthy eating behaviors among university students.
