Abstract

This study aims to find out the challenges in preaching through Islamic education for the millennial generation. In Muslim society, the word preaching, both as a concept and an activity, is often identified as education (tarbiyah) on the grounds that in preaching there is an element of education and in education there is an element of preaching, especially since both activities do not recognize age. This millennial era is interpreted by some experts as the back to spiritual and moral or back to religion . Namely the period of returning to spiritual, moral and religious teachings. The challenge of the current millennial generation is how to change the information obtained by someone into meaningful knowledge. The main assets of the millennial generation in this era are ideas and creativity, research and findings supported by science. The Millennial Generation is a generation terminology that is currently widely discussed by many circles in the world in various fields. Millennials or also known as the Millennial Generation or Generation Y are demographic groups ( cohorts ) after Generation X. Social researchers often group the generation born between the 1980s and 2000s as the millennial generation. It can be said that the millennial generation is the current young generation who are currently in the age range of 21 to 41 years.

Abstract

Orientalism is basically a Western perspective on the East that is often colored by bias and stereotypes. This study aims to analyze the development of orientalism in three main phases: the early phase, the colonial phase, and the modern phase, and its impact on the Islamic world. The method used in this study is a literature review with a qualitative-descriptive approach to explore changes in the orientalism paradigm from time to time. The results of the study show that orientalism, since its inception until today, has played an important role in shaping the global narrative about Islam and the Eastern world. The colonial phase shows how orientalism was used to support the dominance of Western power, while in the modern phase, orientalism is present in the form of new discourses through the media and global politics. This study provides a critical understanding of how orientalism has transformed and remains relevant in the relationship between the West and Islam in the contemporary era.

Abstract

The paper aims to study the historical background of Islamic reform movement in West Sumatera with particular reference to the idea of Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah or his pseudonym Hamka (1908-1981). The main issues discusses is the context of socio-religious reform brought forth by Hamka in the quest of modernity and its enriching narrative of renewal and enlightening spiritual cause. Toward this end, this research aims to highlight Hamka’s significant work and aspiration for reform and the influence it developed in furthering his cause and legacy and monumental contribution in the history and tradition of reform in the Malay world. The study is based on normative and qualitative approaches in the form of content analysis. The data was conceptually analysed using descriptive, comparative and integrative method. The study found that Hamka’s modern idealism was instrumental in driving new consciousness of Islamic movement for reform (islah) and renewal (tajdid) in the Malay world contributing to unprecedented religious struggle that erupted in the late 20th century in Malay Archipelago. It reflected the force of modern ideas espoused by the leading Egyptian-mufti and polymath Shaykh Muhammad Abduh (1849-1905) that had brought decisive and greatest influence in the region. The implication of study is the creation of significance framework of religious ideal embedded in the practice of Islamic modernity adopted from Hamka’s enlightening works and insights that present higher Islamic religious ideal and principle and the dynamic aspiration Kaum Muda (the young faction) in the context of its socio-religious development and influence reflecting their modern philosophy and construct.

Abstract

This study examines the comparative epistemology of Islam in the thought of Al-Farabi and Al-Kindi, focusing on its relevance to modern knowledge contexts. Employing a qualitative approach with textual and comparative analysis methods, the study reconstructs the nature of knowledge, reasoning methods, and contextual implications of both philosophers. Al-Farabi emphasizes rational autonomy through the concept of the active intellect, viewing reason as a bridge to divine truth, while Al-Kindi prioritizes the supremacy of revelation asin the ultimate source of truth, with reason serving theology. The analysis reveals that the dialectic of reason and revelation in their thought reflects the intellectual dynamics of classical Islam, capable of addressing modern challenges such as positivism, relativism, and epistemic pluralism. Al-Farabi’s approach is relevant for enriching the philosophy of science and technological ethics, whereas Al-Kindi’s eclectic method offers a model for integrating global knowledge without losing Islamic identity. Their synthesis yields a holistic epistemology that integrates rationality, spirituality, and ethics, capable of engaging global discourses while remaining rooted in tawhid. This study affirms that the epistemologies of Al-Farabi and Al-Kindi are not merely historical artifacts but living sources of inspiration for formulating an inclusive and transformative vision of knowledge in the modern era.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technologies has reshaped learning environments and highlighted the urgent need for digital literacy competencies among primary school students, including those in Islamic educational settings. This study aims to analyze the multifaceted roles of teachers in strengthening digital literacy in Islamic primary schools, focusing on how teachers facilitate technology use, guide ethical digital behavior, innovate curriculum design, and motivate learners. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach through a systematic literature review, this research synthesizes findings from national and international journal articles published within the last decade. The results reveal four dominant teacher roles that consistently appear across the literature. First, teachers act as facilitators by utilizing digital platforms and resources to support student-centered learning and foster independent exploration. Second, they serve as guides for digital ethics, helping young learners navigate issues such as online safety, credibility of information, privacy, and responsible digital communication. Third, teachers function as curriculum innovators by integrating digital tools and project-based learning tasks that enhance critical thinking, creativity, and engagement. Fourth, teachers act as motivators, providing emotional support and creating positive digital learning experiences that build students’ confidence in using technology. These findings indicate that digital literacy development requires a holistic pedagogical approach that integrates technological skills, ethical reasoning, and affective support. The study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by situating digital literacy within the moral-pedagogical context of Islamic education, highlighting the importance of harmonizing technological competence with Islamic values. The implications suggest the need for capacity building, continuous professional development, and supportive digital infrastructure to enable teachers to perform these roles effectively. Overall, this research reinforces the central role of teachers in shaping digitally competent and ethically grounded learners in the era of educational digital transformation.

Abstract

Waqf holds a strategic position within the Islamic economic system due to its ability to integrate spiritual values with socio-economic functions. This study aims to examine the implementation of the thematic (maudhu’i) approach in understanding hadiths related to waqf and to evaluate their relevance in strengthening contemporary Islamic economics. This research employs a qualitative method based on a literature review with a descriptive-analytical approach. Primary data were derived from hadiths found in major collections, analyzed through thematic classification, validation of chains of narration (sanad) and content (matan), and critical analysis. The findings indicate that waqf-related hadiths can be categorized into several key themes, including waqf jurisprudence, social benefits, and productive waqf. The validity of the hadiths is supported through takhrij and sanad-matan criticism, while their correlation with Islamic economic principles is reflected in social justice, wealth redistribution, and community empowerment. Innovations such as cash waqf, waqf sukuk, and Islamic fintech have expanded the scope of waqf implementation in sustainable economic development. Government bodies and financial institutions play a strategic role in strengthening the waqf ecosystem through supportive regulations and public literacy. This study concludes that integrating hadith scholarship and Islamic economics through the thematic approach makes a significant contribution to advancing both the knowledge and practice of waqf in the contemporary era.
