Abstract

An appropriate learning method is a basic way for learners to be able to achieve maximum grades and the achievement of existing learning objectives. The Flipped Classroom method is one of the new methods in Indonesia which can be one of the preferred methods that can be applied in teaching English. Surely, a trial is required to measure its effectiveness. The current study has two purposes, the first one was to determine whether the Flipped Classroom learning method was able to effectively improve student learning outcomes, especially in English lectures. Then, secondly, the purpose was how to apply Flipped Classroom in the classroom. This research is quantitative descriptive research with a quasi-experimental approach, employing a "Pretest – Posttest Non-Equivalent Control Group Design". The current study involved 2 groups, namely the experimental group, taught using Flipped Classroom learning and the control group taught using conventional learning (without flipped Classroom design). It was found that the value of sig. Levene's test is 0.696 > 0.05, indicating that the data variance between the control class and the experimental class is homogeneous. Furthermore, the value of sig. (2-tailed) for the t-test, the value produces a value of 0.000 <0.05, then the decision-making in the t-test is to reject the Ho hypothesis and accept the Ha hypothesis. Thus, it can be interpreted that there is a significant difference between the average N-Gain scores of the control and experimental classes in English Engineering. It can be concluded that Flipped Classroom is effective in improving students' English skills in the topic of Describing Processes, as evidenced by the N-Gain value of 90, 91% which is included in the effective category. In other words, Flipped Classroom is effective to increase the students' scores in the class.

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy experienced little due to the absence of economic activities. The economic slowdown will result in a financial crisis, so the Indonesian government must immediately address the problem. This study will carry out the economic process in Indonesia after the outbreak to achieve financial balance. This study uses a qualitative approach. Data is obtained through secondary data such as social media, mass media, and data issued by the government for analysis using variables and indicators from previous theories. The study was carried out using the triangulation technique and data analysis software, namely, Nvivo 12 Plus data analysis. The data collection will then be reviewed based on the data analysis program and display the results in visible effects of the software. This study uses various variables in economic development, such as infrastructure, natural resources, human resources, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and digitalization. The most essential, significant efforts to increase economic development are held by infrastructure, which accounts for 86% of the total. Efforts to reduce the unemployment rate until 2022 have not been too significant.

Abstract

The ethical conflict between the President of China and the Prime Minister of Canada at the G20 Summit in Indonesia deserves to be studied as to the causes of ethical differences between leaders. Ethical leadership, appropriate prescriptive behaviour, and promotion among staff through personal behaviour and interpersonal relationships. The focus of ethical leadership is obedience, and the content material of norms and ethical requirements varies in line with the cultural context of each country. Community members develop cognitive templates of behaviours that leaders prefer. This indicates that leaders tend to act in a manner that corresponds to their respective societal expectations of being more effective. This study uses a systematic literature review method. Ethical leadership in China is rooted in Confucian philosophy, whereas ethical leadership in Canada emphasizes performance, future orientation, and individualism. Lawrence Kohlberg on moral reasoning said that most people go through what is called the conventional cognitive level of moral development. This study provides reference material in the study of culture and cognition in ethical leadership that has not been extensively studied by researchers. This research helps people see the cultural differences that affect ethical leadership among state leaders, particularly in China and Canada. Communities can understand this difference and thus prevent conflicts in the future.

Abstract

The goal of this study is to describe how the natural gas line program was put into place in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Lontong neighbourhood of Surabaya, where craftsmen use LPG a lot.  The theory used to make sense of the phenomenon is called policy effectiveness, and it consists of the following components: 1) availability; 2) breadth; 3) depth; 4) bias; 5) responsibility; and 6) appropriateness. In addition, both qualitative and descriptive types of research were used. Ten lontong artisans, three PGN members, and two subdistrict officials are among the informants. Since 2016, residents of the lontong neighbourhood have been using natural gas lines in their factories, according to the results. Socialization of the retail space spreads the word to locals about the program. Information about the program is readily available to each subdistrict thanks to a sales area representative and a call centre open around the clock. Monthly program usage can range from 200m3 to 1,500m3, and the program is available to both single-family homes and small and medium-sized businesses. However, many people are still unaware of the benefits of using natural gas, so the natural gas line program needs to be socialized.

Abstract

This research is conducted to reveal the strategy of humour construction dealing with phonological exploitation in Mind Your Language situation comedy. Mind Your Language is a British comedy television series that portrays a learning process by immigrants coming from various countries. Varieties of cultures and levels of English knowledge naturally influence humour creation by the characters. The data were taken from humourous utterances in season one of that situation comedy. Applying a descriptive qualitative approach, this research is in an attempt to find out the forms and the motives of those humourous utterances created to entertain audiences, especially those dealing with phonological aspects. The findings demonstrate that six forms of phonological aspects are employed to create humour. Sounds addition, omission, substitution, and minimal pairs are frequently exploited in humour creation rather than other strategies such as sound compatibility and metathesis. Based on the motives of humour construction, besides the interlocuter’s influence, the phonological interference phenomenon also grounds the humour production in Mind Your Language situation comedy. The humourous utterances produced illustrate a contextual relation of the situation comedy as an English learning process by immigrants coming from various countries, languages, and cultures.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect size of digital mathematics textbooks in blended learning assisted by Schoology to improve mathematical problem-solving abilities in polytechnic students. The research was conducted at the Bali State Polytechnic (PNB), using the Research & Development method with a 4-D model (define, design, develop, and disseminate). Currently, the dissemination stage is carried out through an effectiveness test using a quasi-experiment approach, with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects are PNB engineering students in 2020/2021, and 10 classes are taken by purposive sampling. Data were collected using a mathematical problem-solving ability test and analyzed using a t-test, N-Gain scores, and effect size. The results of the analysis show that the effect size of digital mathematics textbooks to improve mathematical problem-solving skills in Schoology-assisted blended learning is very large. The implication is that increasing the ability to solve mathematical problems through blended learning assisted by Schoology for polytechnic students will be quite effective if it is facilitated by digital mathematics textbooks.
