Abstract

This study examines the role of the Office of Religious Affairs (Kantor Urusan Agama/KUA) of Medan Petisah District in realizing sakinah families within the community. A sakinah family is one of the main goals of marriage in Islam, characterized by tranquility, affection, and harmony based on faith and devotion to Allah SWT. This study aims to analyze the concept of a sakinah family from an Islamic perspective, as well as the role and forms of family development activities carried out by the KUA of Medan Petisah District. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach through interviews and documentation involving KUA officials and religious counselors. The findings indicate that the KUA plays an active role through premarital guidance and religious counseling in fostering sakinah families. This study is expected to contribute as an evaluation and provide recommendations to improve the effectiveness of sakinah family development programs.

Abstract

The phenomenon of moral degradation and the increase in negative activities among children during the crucial hours between dusk and evening have become serious challenges for the community in Ujung Negeri Kahan Village. This community service research aims to evaluate and optimize the role of the "Maghrib Mengaji" program as a preventive instrument to shield children from unhealthy environmental influences and gadget dependency. The method employed in this service is participatory mentoring using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, involving religious leaders, parents, and village officials. Through the restructuring of activities in mosques and prayer rooms, this program focuses not only on Qur'anic literacy but also on the cultivation of noble character (akhlakul karimah). The results indicate a significant transformation in behavior; children who previously engaged in counterproductive outdoor activities are now more focused on positive spiritual and social endeavors. The success of the program is indicated by a decrease in the intensity of nighttime wandering and an increase in learning discipline. The conclusion of this activity confirms that community synergy through structured religious programs is effective in reducing the potential for juvenile delinquency and strengthening the moral resilience of the younger generation at the rural level.

Abstract

Academic stress is a prevalent issue among Indonesian students, affecting both their academic performance and mental well-being. This study investigates the effectiveness of short educational videos on social media in improving students' knowledge about academic stress. A descriptive quantitative approach was used, with a sample of 35 Nursing students from the 2024 cohort at Malahayati University. The data was collected through questionnaires administered before and after students were exposed to 1-3 minute educational videos. The results showed a notable increase in the average knowledge score, from 82.71 to 85. The findings suggest that short videos, which are visually engaging and easy to access, are highly effective for Generation Z learners. Social media platforms, particularly TikTok and Instagram, can be valuable tools for early psychological intervention, providing students with accessible resources to manage academic stress on their own. This study highlights the potential of leveraging digital platforms to support student well-being and offers insights into innovative approaches for addressing mental health challenges in educational settings.

Abstract

The development of rural economies based on locally superior commodities is an integral part of inclusive and sustainable development strategies. Sumberdem located in Wonosari Subdistrict, Malang Regency, possesses significant potential for the development of coffee-based ecotourism. However, this potential remains largely underutilized due to several structural and institutional constraints. Key challenges include inadequate supporting infrastructure, limited capacity of local human resources, and the absence of downstream processing for coffee products. This community engagement program implemented an adaptive approach known as the Lumintu model, rooted in the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) framework. Field assessments revealed critical limitations such as poor road access to plantation areas, insufficient agricultural irrigation, and weak digital connectivity. Moreover, the capacity of village institutions—such as the Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDesa) and coffee farmer groups—remained low, resulting in local coffee products with limited added value. The initial implementation of the program has shown promising results, particularly in strengthening institutional capacity through training on tourism business management and high–value coffee processing. Furthermore, product diversification through the development of coffee-based agrotourism and digital marketing innovations has been successfully introduced. Overall, this community engagement initiative has provided a concrete solution to rural development challenges in Sumberdem Village. Moving forward, the village is expected to strengthen its position as a sustainable coffee ecotourism destination and improve the long-term economic well-being of its residents. The proposed development model also holds the potential for adaptation and replication in other rural areas with similar characteristics, thereby supporting the broader achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Abstract

Buton's traditional woven cloth is a local cultural heritage with economic, social, and cultural value for the people of Baubau City. However, with the advancement of modernization, the younger generation's interest in continuing the weaving tradition has waned. This has resulted in a decline in the number of weavers and limited the development of local culture-based businesses. This community service activity aims to improve community skills in making Buton's traditional woven cloth, encourage community economic empowerment, and preserve local culture by strengthening traditional weaving businesses. The activity implemented a participatory approach through field observation, outreach, woven cloth production training, production assistance, and product marketing. The target group included housewives, small business owners, and the younger generation in Baubau City. The results showed an increase in participants' knowledge and skills in the process of making Buton's traditional woven cloth, from material selection and dyeing techniques to the weaving process. Furthermore, this activity also increased community motivation to develop weaving businesses as a source of family income and expanded marketing opportunities for products based on local culture. This empowerment program is expected to support the development of the community's creative economy while maintaining the sustainability of Buton's traditional woven cloth heritage in Baubau City.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve children's Quran reading skills through learning the hijaiyah alphabet using the "Guess the Hijaiyah Letters" game method. The problem faced by the partners was students' low ability to recognize the hijaiyah letters and their inaccurate pronunciation of the letters according to the hijaiyah alphabet. Furthermore, the monotonous learning process tends to diminish children's interest in learning. Therefore, an educational game-based learning method was implemented to create an active, enjoyable, and interactive learning environment. The activity was implemented through a participatory approach, involving observation, counseling, demonstrations, educational game practice, and evaluation of participant abilities. The "Guess the Hijaiyah Letters" game was used as a learning medium to help children recognize letter shapes, distinguish hijaiyah letter sounds, and gradually practice accurate pronunciation of the hijaiyah alphabet. The activity targeted early childhood and TPA/TPQ students participating in Quran reading lessons. The results showed an increase in participants' ability to recognize the hijaiyah letters, understand the pronunciation of letters according to the hijaiyah alphabet, and increased enthusiasm and participation during the learning process. Educational game methods have been proven to create a more effective and enjoyable learning environment, making it easier for participants to understand Quranic learning materials. Therefore, the "Guess the Hijaiyah Letters" game method can be an innovative learning alternative for improving children's Quranic reading skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of science learning based on experiments using natural and artificial dyes in improving early childhood color recognition skills and science process skills. Early Childhood Education (ECE) requires learning activities that are concrete, enjoyable, and based on direct experiences so that children can actively understand concepts through exploration. Color-mixing activities were chosen because they can stimulate curiosity, creativity, observation skills, and children’s communication abilities. The study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects consisted of 20 children aged 5–6 years in an ECE institution. The experiment was conducted over four meetings under the theme “Me and Colors,” using natural dyes such as turmeric, pandan leaves, butterfly pea flowers, and dragon fruit, as well as safe artificial dyes for children. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and child development assessment sheets. The results showed an improvement in children’s color recognition skills from the “Beginning to Develop” category (55%) in the pretest to “Developing as Expected” and “Very Well Developed” (80%) in the posttest. Science process skills, creativity, fine motor skills, and socio-emotional development also improved through experimental and group activities. This learning approach proved effective in creating active, interactive, and enjoyable learning experiences in early childhood education.

Abstract

Science learning in early childhood education plays an important role in developing children's critical thinking, creativity, and exploration skills through direct experiences. This study aims to describe the implementation of the theme “Rainbow Science Learning of the Indonesian Archipelago for Early Childhood Using Natural Dyes from Local Materials” to enhance children's science process skills, creativity, and appreciation of the environment and local culture. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed involving 20 children aged 5–6 years in an Early Childhood Education (ECE) institution. Learning activities were carried out through color-mixing experiments using local natural materials such as turmeric, butterfly pea flowers, pandan leaves, and dragon fruit. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and child development assessments, then analyzed descriptively. The findings indicate that natural dyes from local materials effectively increased children's active participation in science learning. Children enthusiastically explored colors, observed changes, tested color combinations, and communicated their findings. Experiment-based activities improved science process skills, including observing, classifying, predicting, and drawing conclusions. Furthermore, the use of local natural resources provided contextual, safe, economical, and environmentally friendly learning experiences while introducing children to Indonesia’s cultural heritage and fostering environmental awareness and appreciation of local culture

Abstract

Carrots (Daucus carota L.) are horticultural plants with high nutritional content and abundant availability in the highlands of Karo Regency. However, its use at the community level is still limited to the sale of raw materials, so the economic added value is relatively low. This community service activity aims to improve the skills of the residents of Situnggaling Village in processing carrots into donuts with nutritional and economic value. The approach of the activity includes observation, interviews, socialization, and hands-on practice of making carrot donuts. The results showed a significant increase in the ability of residents to process agricultural products into food products with selling value, as well as the emergence of small groups that took the initiative to produce carrot donuts as a home business. This activity shows that training based on local potential is able to encourage economic independence and strengthen the spirit of entrepreneurship in rural areas. In addition, the innovation of processing carrots into creative products provides new opportunities in diversifying local food and increasing public awareness of the importance of optimal use of agricultural products. Through this activity, residents are expected to be able to develop products sustainably and expand marketing to increase family income.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to support the implementation of the School Literacy Movement (GLS) while escalating literacy awareness at the secondary education level. The primary issue addressed is the stagnation of literacy culture, which tends to be trapped in administrative formalities, and the lack of diverse academic references capable of bridging students' insights toward higher education. The implementation method involved interactive lectures, in-depth discussions, and a book donation campaign using a face-to-face participatory approach. The target participants included students and teachers at three institutions with heterogeneous characteristics in Banda Aceh: SMA Negeri 13 (public school), SMAS Inshafuddin (boarding-based school), and SMK Farmasi Cut Meutia (vocational school). The results showed that the distribution of reference books, thematically classified according to the specific needs of each school, significantly improved the accessibility of learning resources. Descriptive evaluation revealed high enthusiasm from participants, despite technical obstacles regarding the limited number of physical copies per title. In conclusion, this program is effective in revitalizing interest in reading and strengthening the synergy between higher education and partner schools. As a strategic step, formal cooperation (MoA) and the integration of lecturers' research books are required to ensure a more high-quality and inclusive literacy ecosystem's sustainability.
