Abstract

A Community Service activity titled “Celebrating Independence through Environmental Care and Gotong Royong (Mutual Cooperation) in Welcoming the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day” was conducted in Pucanggading, Demak Regency, Central Java. The activity aimed to increase public awareness of environmental cleanliness while strengthening the spirit of gotong royong as a form of community solidarity. The commemoration of Indonesia’s Independence Day was used as an opportunity to encourage residents to participate in meaningful activities that provided direct benefits to the environment. The activity employed a participatory approach by involving local residents in several stages, including preparation, outreach and education, environmental cleaning, waste collection and sorting, beautification, and evaluation. Residents worked together to clean neighborhood streets, drainage channels, public facilities, and residential areas, as well as improve the surrounding environment in preparation for the Independence Day celebration. The results showed positive changes in environmental cleanliness and tidiness, accompanied by increased community participation in collective activities. The activity also enhanced awareness of proper waste management and strengthened the values of gotong royong, cooperation, and social responsibility. This initiative is expected to encourage sustainable habits through regular community-based environmental activities.

Abstract

The Free Health Check Program is a preventive and promotive initiative aimed at expanding early detection of health risks in the community. This community service activity aimed to describe the implementation of community-based assistance for the Free Health Check Program in the working area of Payaraman Barat Public Health Center, identify major screening findings, and evaluate health communication quality. A participatory approach integrating interactive education, basic health screening, counselling, and community health worker involvement was applied. A total of 3,024 participants from children, adults, and older adults participated, with those aged 40–59 years comprising the largest group (33.33%). Among 2,081 participants with blood pressure data, 50.36% were classified outside the normal category. Body mass index assessment among 2,153 participants showed that most were classified as having excess body weight, overweight, or obesity. Communication evaluation showed that 52.91–59.52% of participants rated information clarity, language comprehensibility, staff friendliness, opportunity for questions, and communication media as good. Community health worker and local stakeholder involvement exceeded the program target. Community-based assistance may strengthen screening reach, health communication, and early identification of health risks, although standardized documentation and follow-up remain essential.

Abstract

Mathematics plays a fundamental role in developing students' logical, analytical, critical, and problem-solving skills. However, many senior high school students perceive mathematics as difficult and uninteresting due to teacher-centered instruction that provides limited opportunities for active engagement and authentic learning experiences. This community service program aimed to enhance students' mathematical understanding through an Experiential Learning-based FunMath Camp conducted collaboratively by the Mathematics Study Program of the University of Mataram and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. The program was held over two days, 27–28 June 2026, at Gunung Jae Nature Tourism Park, West Lombok, involving 20 selected senior high school students from across Lombok Island. The activities followed four stages of Experiential Learning: concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation. Activities included interactive lectures, Treasure Map Games, a Mini Mathematics Quiz Competition, and collaborative outdoor learning. Program effectiveness was evaluated using pre-test and post-test scores. As the data were not normally distributed based on the Shapiro–Wilk test, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test was employed. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in students' mathematical understanding, with the mean score increasing from 6.85 to 7.80 (p = 0.012). Although the average N-Gain score was 0.19 (low category), students demonstrated greater engagement, collaboration, and confidence in solving mathematical problems. These findings indicate that the Experiential Learning-based FunMath Camp provides an engaging and meaningful learning environment that supports mathematical understanding and active learning.
