Abstract

This research aims to determined the effect of feed adequacy on the production and quality of dairy goat milk in Turi District. This research was carried out in the field and laboratory from 01 to 24 October 2023. A total of 98 dairy goat breeders were selected as respondents with the criteria of having at least 1 year of farming experience and having at least 2 animals. From each goat they raise, milk samples are taken to test the quality in the laboratory. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively and by multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the average age of farmers is 44 years, with an education level of 86% high school graduates, the number of family dependents of 4-5 people is 67%, the majority work as farmers 52% (69% ≤10 years and 31% ≥11 years). Livestock ownership status is 100% privately owned with an average ownership of 2-5 heads. The average body weight of dairy goats was 40.13 ± 6.91 kg, with milk production of 2.21 ± 0.51 liters/day. Furthermore, the milk quality variable shows that the average specific gravity and non-fat solids are 1.055 ± 0.08 and 8.42 ± 0.43. Feed adequacy (Dry Matter) is 1.43 and Crude Protein adequacy is 7.44. Milk production was significantly (p<0.05) 52.6% influenced by the level of feed adequacy with the regression equation Y = -1.513 + 0.033XI + 0.495X2. Meanwhile, milk density was 48.5% influenced by the level of feed adequacy (p>0.05) with the regression equation Y = 1.043 + 0.073XI - 0.013X2. Likewise, the lean solitaire variable which was not significant (p>0.05) was influenced by the level of feed adequacy (0.75%) with the regression equation Y = 6.874 + 0.155XI + 0.183X2. It was concluded that the adequacy of feed for dairy goats in Turi District for production was sufficient and for milk quality it was in accordance with the 2011 SNI.

Abstract

Palm oil is an important plantation commodity for Indonesia with its strategic role in Indonesia's economic development. Problems that occur in oil palm plantations are pest attacks such as the horn beetle (Oryctes rhinoceros). The large number of pest attacks can reduce plant productivity. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of pineapple juice and fermented sap as a substitute for chemical pheromones in ferrotrap traps to control horn beetle pests organically. The implementation will be carried out on agricultural land in Teluk Panji IV Village, Kampung Rakyat District, South Labuhan Batu Regency, North Sumatra in March 2024. The treatment used is natural pheromone material in the form of pineapple juice and fermented palm juice at 6 levels. The results showed that treatment with a mixture of 1 kg of pineapple juice and 1 liter of fermented juice (N5) was most effective on the variable number of horn beetles caught, was 138 individuals with an average of 19.7 individuals per day. This effectiveness is due to the volatile compounds in pineapple juice which attract horn beetles, as well as sap juice which strengthens the aroma. The results of research on the variable number of horn beetles that died on the most effective device used treatment of 1 kg of pineapple and 0.5 liters of sap (N4), was 8 horn beetles. This research indicated that the use of this natural material can be an environmentally friendly and economical alternative for controlling horn beetle pests in palm oil plantations

Abstract

Research was conducted in an Experimental Farm to determine the response of several early maturing hybrid maize genotypes to population density pressure in Bone District, South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The experiment used a Split Plot Design consisting of main and subplots. The main plot consisted of four maize genotypes; ST201359 (Gt1), ST201312 (Gt2), Bima 7 (Gt3), Bima 3 (Gt4), and as subplots population density of 83,333 plants/ha (Pa), and 100,000 plants/ha (Pb). The two factors tested resulted in 8 treatment combinations, each combination was repeated three times as a block so that 24 experimental units were obtained. The results showed that maize genotypes Gt4, Gt1, Gt2, and Gt3, respectively, gave significant effects on almost all observed variables; plant height, flowering age, leaf area index, harvest age of maize genotypes < 90 hst, cob length, cob diameter, number of seeds per cob, yield per plot and yield per hectare. Population density pressure of 100,000 plants/ha as a single factor gave a significant effect on some of the observed variables namely; leaf area index, cob length, yield per plot, and yield per hectare increased with a population of 100,000 plants/ha. In this study, there was an interaction between maize genotype Gt4 (Bima 3) and population density of 100,000 plants/ha that significantly affected the variable of maize cob length.

Abstract

Layer manure is generally only used as organic fertilizer, whereas it has the potential as animal feed through bioconversion using Aspergillus niger and Trichoderma viride fungi. The study aims to determine the levels of reducing sugar, crude protein, and organic matter from layer manure resulting from bioconversion with Aspergillus niger and Trichoderma viride. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) of 4 treatments and four replications. The treatments given were manure inoculated (3% DM)  with A: Trichoderma viride (6 days incubation); B Aspergillus niger (6 days incubation); C. Trichoderma viride (3 days incubation) followed by Aspergillus niger (3 days incubation); D. Aspergillus niger (3 days incubation) followed by Trichoderma viride (3 days incubation). The results showed that inoculation of Aspergillus niger and Trichoderma viride in manure bioconversion had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on the levels of reducing sugar, crude protein, and organic matter. The highest levels of reducing sugar were produced in treatment B with Aspergillus niger inoculation. The highest levels of crude protein were produced in treatment A with Trichoderma viride inoculation, and the highest organic matter content was produced through inoculation of a combination of both types of molds. It can be concluded that the manure bioconversion inoculated with Aspergillus niger and Trichoderma viride produced varying levels of reducing sugar, crude protein, and organic matter.

Abstract

This research was conducted at the Biotechnology Research and Testing Lab of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Padjadjaran University, and the Rice Standard Instrument Testing Center (BBPSI Padi), Subang Regency, West Java starting on September 20 to December 22, 2023. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the hipure Kit in isolating grass Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid (DNA) by ensuring adequate concentration and cleanliness of samples from contaminants for subsequent molecular applications. The ideal DNA concentration for PCR is 20-50 ng/µL, with an A260/A280 absorbance ratio of about 1.8-2.0 and an A260/A230 ratio above 2.0, indicating the absence of contamination from proteins, salts, carbohydrates, or other organic compounds. The methodology of this study was a descriptive exploration involving descriptive statistical analysis to evaluate the variation in DNA concentration between samples, using spreadsheet software to facilitate data management. The results of the Nanodrop spectrophotometric analysis showed that there variations in DNA concentration between samples, but generally within a range adequate for laboratory applications such as PCR and sequencing. In addition, the HiPure Plant DNA Kit proved effective in producing high-concentration DNA with clear and defined DNA bands in electrophoresis and effectively minimizing contaminants. Further optimization of the extraction protocol, such as adjusting the incubation time or buffer concentration, is recommended to improve DNA concentration and purity. This step will ensure higher DNA quality for downstream applications such as PCR.

Abstract

Apple cucumber, an annual horticultural crop, is primarily cultivated in the coastal area of Tanjung Pakis Village, Karawang Regency, which serves as a significant production center for this crop. These cucumbers, which are a hybrid of cucumber and melon plants, remain relatively unknown in Karawang due to limited marketing and a small number of farmers involved. The research aims to explore the marketing channels and their effectiveness in the apple cucumber supply chain. The study included a sample of 20 farmers selected through Census Sampling, alongside 2 middlemen, 1 wholesaler, and 7 retailers identified using Snowball Sampling. Primary data was collected via questionnaire-based interviews, complemented by secondary data from sources like BPS, the Agriculture Office, and the Tanjung Pakis Village Office. Analysis focused on revenue, profit margins, farmer's share, and overall marketing efficiency. Results identified four distinct marketing patterns: Channel I (Farmers-Middlemen-Wholesalers-Consumers), Channel II (Farmers-Middlemen-Retailers-Consumers), Channel III (Farmers-Wholesalers-Consumers), and Channel IV (Farmers-Retailers-Consumers). Notably, Channel IV emerged as the most efficient, characterized by the lowest marketing margin of Rp. 5,000/kg, a farmer's share exceeding 66.67% (indicating efficiency), and a marketing efficiency ratio of 0.08 (EP < 1 indicating efficiency). These findings underscore the potential for optimizing apple cucumber marketing strategies to enhance profitability and promote wider adoption among farmers in the region.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of glycerol (GLY) levels in tris-egg yolk (T-EY) diluent on the quality of landrace boar spermatozoa. The research material was fresh semen from one landrace boar aged two years and two month. The design used was a completely randomized design (RAL) consisting of five treatments and five replications, namely: T0= T-EY, T1=T-EY + GLY 1%, T2= T-EY + GLY 2%, T3= T-EY +GLY 3%, T4=T-EY + GLY 4%. Research variables included motility, viability, abnormalities, and survival of spermatozoa.  The data obtained were analized by the analysis of variance test (ANOVA one way) and further tested with the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that T2 and T3 treatment resulted in statistically higher spermatozoa quality (p<0.05) than other treatments with motility was: 61.00±4.18% and 60.00±3.53%, viability 66.00±4.18% and 63.00±3.53% and survival spermatozoa 56.80±1.09 and 55.20±1.78 hours. It can be concluded that the addition 2% and 3% of glycerol (GLY) in tris-egg yolk (T-EY) diluent gaves a good response in maintaining the quality of Landrace Boar spermatozoa.
