Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the heterogenity of quantity and quality of bali bull semen in Unit Pelaksana Teknis Balai Inseminasi Buatan Daerah (UPT BIBD) Baturiti, Tabanan from December 2016 until January 2017. Twelve Bali bulls in UPT BIBD Baturiti, Tabanan were used in this study. The variables observed in this study were macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of the semen. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative analysis and coefficient of variationwere calculated for the quantitative data. The result of the study showed that the colour of Bali bull semen was milky cream, with the volume obtained per ejaculation was 4.8 ml up to 12.0 ml. In addition to that, the other macroscopic characteristics observed resulted in the pH between 6 to 7, spermatozoamotilitybetween 77.30 % until 97.79 %, the mass motions of Bali bull semen was ++ to +++. The last of microscopic characteristic observed was spermatozoa concentration vary between 1.078 x 109/mland 2.118 x 109/ml. The coefficient variation of the volume, concentration and motility of the spermatozoa were 23.98 %, 24.17 % and 7.67 % respectively. It can be concluded that quantity and quality of Bali bull semen was good. Although that volume and concentration of semen were vary, but their spermmotility was uniform. Overall, it can be said that Bali bull semen in UPT BIBD Baturiti was heterogen and was good in sperm quality chatagorize and the most superior Bali bull in UPT BIBD Baturiti, Tabanan was Buwana Merta.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the variability of quantitative and qualitative traits of kampong chickens in Kupang City and Kupang Regency. A total of 140 chickens consisting of 66 male kampong chickens and 74 female kampong chickens were used in this study. The method used was a direct observation survey on the quantitative and qualitative traits of kampong chickens. The association between sexes and quantitative traits was analyzed by t-test, while the qualitative data was analyzed by counting for the percentage. The diversity was determined by calculating the coefficient of variation (KK) of quantitative data. The results showed that male kampong chickens in Kupang City and Kupang Regency were dominated by 41.89% black feathered chickens, 37.88% yellow beak color, and 39.39% yellow shank color. Meanwhile, female kampong chickens were 43.94% red feathered, 53.05% black beak, and 50.00% black shanks. Black mottled feathers were found in male kampong chickens, whereas not found in female kampong chickens. Based on the quantitative characteristics, the wing length, tibia length, shank length, and the third finger length male kampong chicken were significantly higher than female kampong chicken (P≤0.05), while the shank circumference was not significantly different (P≥0.05). It can be concluded that kampong chickens in Kupang City and Kupang Regency was diverse based on quantitative traits.

Abstract

Pig farming has great potential for breeding in the city of Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. The use of pigs as social livestock has led many people to raise pigs. In practice, farmers still rely on traditional habits inherited from their parents and experiences gained from the environment to raise pigs. Efforts are needed to address this. The adoption of innovations is a possible way to improve the productivity of the business, which will have an impact on its progress. The purpose of this research is to analyze the relationship between farmer motivation and the adoption of pig farming innovations. The sample used in this study consisted of 100 pig farmers selected purposively from three districts in the city of Kupang. The analysis used in this study is Spearman's Rank Correlation analysis. The results of the research indicate that there is a very weak, significant, and positive relationship between economic motives and the adoption of innovations, with significance values of 0.019 (economic motives) and correlation coefficients of 0.023. Similarly, there is a very weak, significant, and positive relationship between the utilization of household food waste motive and the adoption of innovations, with a significance value of 0.027 and a correlation coefficient of 0.022. On the other hand, there is a very weak, significant, and negative relationship between socio-cultural motives and the adoption of innovations, with a significance value of 0.085 and a correlation coefficient of -0.019.

Abstract

This aim of this study was the effect of adding Olive oil (OO) to watermelon juice-egg yolk (WJ-EY) on thequality of spermatozoa in landrace pig. Semen was collected twice a week using the massage method from aboar with age 2,5 years old in healthy condition. This research was designed used a completely randomizeddesign consisting of six (6) treatments and five (5) replications. The treatments tested were T0: WJ-EY, T1:WJ-EY + OO 8%, T2: WJ-EY + OO 10%, T3: WJ-EY + OO 12%, T4: WJ-EY + OO 14% and T5: WJ-EY +OO 16%. The diluted semen stored in a cool box at a temperature of 18-20oC, the semen was evaluated afterdilution and every 8 hours until the spermatozoa motility 40% according the rules of used liquid semen forartificial insemination. The research variables were motility, viability, abnormalities and survival ofspermatozoa. The results of this study showed that spermatozoa stored for 32 hours in T3 diluent had higherquality (P<0.05) compared to the other five treatments with a motility value was 44.00±4.18%, viability was55.00±5.00%, abnormality was 3.40±0.42% and survival was 32.64±0.67 hours. It was concluded thataddition of 12% olive oil to the watermelon juice-egg yolk diluent was better able to maintain the quality oflandrace boar spermatozoa Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan minyak zaitun (MZ) dalam pengencer sari buah semangka-kuning telur (SBS-KT) terhadap kualitas spermatozoa babi landrace. Semen dikoleksi dua kali seminggu menggunakan metode massage dari satu ekor babi landrace jantan berumur 2,5 tahun dalam kondisi sehat. Penelitian ini dirancang menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap yang terdiri dari enam perlakuan dan lima ulangan. Perlakuan yang diuji adalah P0: SBS-KT, P1: SBS-KT + MZ 8%, P2: SBS-KT + MZ 10%, P3: SBS-KT + MZ 12%, P4: SBS-KT + MZ 14% dan P5: SBS-KT + MZ 16%. Semen yang telah diencerkan disimpan dalam cool box pada suhu 18-20oC, semen di periksa setelah pengenceran dan setiap delapan jam sampai motilitas 40% sesuai aturan penggunaan semen cair untuk inseminasi buatan. Variabel penelitian adalah motilitas, viabilitas, abnormalitas, dan daya tahan hidup spermatozoa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa spermatozoa yang disimpan selama 32 jam pada pengencer P3 mempunyai kualitas yang lebih tinggi (P<0,05) dibandingkan dengan dengan kelima perlakuan lainnya dengan nilai motilitas 44,00±4,18%, viabilitas 55,00±5,00%, abnormalitas 3,40±0,42% dan daya tahan hidup 32,64±0,67 jam. Disimpulkan bahwa penambahan minyak zaitun sebesar 12%  ke dalam pengencer sari buah semangka-kuning telur lebih berpengaruh dalam mempertahankan kualitas spermatozoa babi landrace.

Abstract

Abstrak: Masalah yang dihadapi oleh peternak di Desa Ponain, Kecamatan Amarasi, Kabupaten Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) yaitu sulitnya memenuhi kesediaan pakan secara kesinambungan baik mutu mau jumlahnya. Hal ini karena harga pakan yang tinggi, sehingga peternak memberikan pakan seadahnya tanpa melihat kebutuhan harian ternak babi yang menyebabkan produktivitas ternak babi menurun dan membutuhkan waktu pemeliharaan yang lebih lama. Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk memanfaatkan bahan lokal menjadi pakan alternatif dengan cara meningkatkan nilai gunanya dan pengurangi penggunaan pakan komersial sehingga lebih ekonomis serta meningkatkan softskill dan hardskill masyarakat dalam mengelolah pakan alternatif. Pelaksanaan PkM ini menggunakan metode ceramah dan eksperimen langsung bersama masyarakat. Masyarakat yang ikut dalam kegiatan ini adalah 25 orang dengan 19 laki-laki dan 6 orang perempuan. Evaluasi kegiatan ini dilihat dari adanya pre-test sebelum kegiatan dan post-test pada akhir kegiatan. Solusi yang di tawarkan yaitu pembuatan pakan alternatif menggunakan batang pisang yang difermentasi. Hal ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan dan mengoptimalkan kandungan nutrisi dan nilai guna batang pisang sehingga peternak dapat memenuhi kebutuhan nutrisi harian ternak babi serta dapat menekan biaya pakan. Melalui kegiatan pengabdian ini peternak dapat mengetahui pemanfaatkan pembuatan pakan alternatif guna menekan biaya produksi pakan yang mahal. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi melalui post-test dari 25 orang menunjukan hasil 80% responden mengalami peningkatan pengetahuan tentang fermentasi batang pisang.Abstract: The problem faced by breeders in Ponain Village, Amarasi District, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is the difficulty of meeting feed supplies in a sustainable manner, both in quality and quantity. This is because the price of feed is high, so farmers provide as little feed as they can without considering the daily needs of pigs, which causes pig productivity to decrease and requires longer maintenance time. This Community Service (PKM) aims to utilize local ingredients into alternative feed by increasing its useful value and reducing the use of commercial feed so that it is more economical and improves the community's soft skills and hard skills in managing alternative feed. The implementation of PkM uses lecture methods and direct experiments with the community. There were 25 people who took part in this activity, 19 men and 6 women. Evaluation of this activity is seen from the pre-test before the activity and post-test at the end of the activity. The solution offered is making alternative feed using fermented banana stems. This aims to increase and optimize the nutritional content and use value of banana stems so that farmers can meet the daily nutritional needs of pigs and can reduce feed costs. Through this service activity, breeders can learn about the use of alternative feed production to reduce expensive feed production costs. Based on the results of evaluation via post-test from 25 people, the results showed that 90% of respondents had increased knowledge about banana stem fermentation.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menguji penggunaan level gliserol (GLY) dalam pengencer sitrat-kuning telur (S-KT) guna mempertahankan kualitas spermatozoa babi Landrace pada suhu penyimpanan 18-20oC. Materi dalam penelitian ini yaitu semen segar dari satu ekor babi jenis Landrace berusia 2,5 tahun, kesehatan optimal, babi pejantan telah terbiasa dan dilatih untuk proses koleksi semen secara teratur. Penelitian ini disusun dengan metode rancangan acak lengkap yang mencakup lima perlakuan berupa Sitrat-Kuning telur dan gliserol dan lima pengulangan yakni: P0 = S-KT, P1: S-KT + GLY 1%, P2: S-KT + GLY 2%, P3: S-KT + GLY 3%, P4: S-KT + GLY 4%. Variabel yang diuji diantaranya: motilitas, viabilitas, abnormalitas, dan daya tahan hidup (DTH) spermatozoa. Setelah diencerkan, semen disimpan dalam styrofom box pada temperature 18-20oC. Data dianalisis menggunakan one way ANOVA bila terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan maka dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan. Hasil dari penelitian mengindikasikan bahwa perlakuan P2 pada jam pengamatan ke-36 menghasilkan kualitas spermatozoa dengan nilai yang lebih tinggi secara statistik (P<0,05) apabila dibandingkan keempat perlakuan lain dengan motilitas: 45,00±2,24%, viabilitas: 52,70±3,87%, abnormalitas: 4,20±0,89%, dan DTH spermatozoa: 41,45±8,05 jam. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah penggunaan gliserol pada tingkat konsentrasi 2% dalam larutan pengencer sitrat-kuning telur memberikan respon yang baik untuk menjaga kualitas spermatozoa babi Landrace hingga 41,45 jam penyimpanan. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh penambahan air tebu ke dalam pengencer tris kuning telur terhadap kualitas spermatozoa pada babi persilangan Landrace dan Duroc. Materi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah semen segar dari babi persilangan Landrace dan Duroc berusia 1,5 tahun, yang dalam kondisi sehat dan terlatih dalam penampungan semen. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan rancangan acak lengkap yang terdiri dari 6 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan, yaitu: P0 = Tris kuning telur + 0% air tebu, P1 = Tris kuning telur + 5% air tebu, P2 = Tris kuning telur + 10% air tebu, P3 = Tris kuning telur + 15% air tebu, P4 = Tris kuning telur + 20% air tebu, dan P5 = Tris kuning telur + 25% air tebu. Variabel yang diamati meliputi motilitas, viabilitas, abnormalitas, dan daya tahan hidup spermatozoa. Semen yang telah diencerkan disimpan dalam coolbox pada suhu 18-20℃. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan P4 dengan penambahan 20% air tebu menghasilkan motilitas sebesar 57,00±2,74%, viabilitas 67,80±4,97%, abnormalitas 5,50±0,79%, dan daya tahan hidup spermatozoa mencapai 68,52 jam. Kesimpulannya, penambahan 20% air tebu dalam pengencer tris kuning telur memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap motilitas, viabilitas, abnormalitas, dan daya tahan hidup spermatozoa hingga 68,52 jam.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of glycerol (GLY) levels in tris-egg yolk (T-EY) diluent on the quality of landrace boar spermatozoa. The research material was fresh semen from one landrace boar aged two years and two month. The design used was a completely randomized design (RAL) consisting of five treatments and five replications, namely: T0= T-EY, T1=T-EY + GLY 1%, T2= T-EY + GLY 2%, T3= T-EY +GLY 3%, T4=T-EY + GLY 4%. Research variables included motility, viability, abnormalities, and survival of spermatozoa.  The data obtained were analized by the analysis of variance test (ANOVA one way) and further tested with the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that T2 and T3 treatment resulted in statistically higher spermatozoa quality (p<0.05) than other treatments with motility was: 61.00±4.18% and 60.00±3.53%, viability 66.00±4.18% and 63.00±3.53% and survival spermatozoa 56.80±1.09 and 55.20±1.78 hours. It can be concluded that the addition 2% and 3% of glycerol (GLY) in tris-egg yolk (T-EY) diluent gaves a good response in maintaining the quality of Landrace Boar spermatozoa.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan sari buah mangga jenis arum manis (SBMAM) dalam pengencer beltsville thawing solution (BTS) kuning telur (KT) terhadap kualitas semen cair babi landrace selama penyimpanan. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan 5 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan sehingga terdapat 25 unit percobaan. Adapun perlakuan yang dimaksud adalah: P0: BTS-KT+0% SBMAM, P1: BTS-KT+5% SBMAM, P2: BTS-KT+10% SBMAM, P3: BTS-KT+15% SBMAM, P4: BTS-KT+20% SBMAM. Semen yang telah diencerkan disimpan dalam coolbox pada suhu 18o-20oC dan dievaluasi setiap 8 jam. Variabel penelitian yang diamati adalah: motilitas, viabilitas, abnormalitas dan daya tahan hidup spermatozoa. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan analysis of variance dilanjutkan uji Duncan. Data dianalisis menggunakan software SSPS 26.0 for windows. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan P4 dengan level 20% SBMAM memberikan hasil terbaik dan secara stastistik berbeda nyata dengan empat perlakuan lainnya (P<0,05) dengan nilai motilitas 48,00±2,73%, viabilitas 66,02±4,77%, abnormalitas 6,01±0,53% dan daya hidup sebesar 46,81±1,14 jam. Disimpulkan bahwa penambahan SBMAM dengan level 20% ke dalam pengencer BTS-KT memberikan respon yang lebih baik dalam mempertahankan kualitas semen cair babi landrace.
