Abstract

Digital transformation refers to a comprehensive process of change encompassing educational systems, organizational culture, strategies, and governance. The success of the transformation toward a smart school system depends not only on the availability of technology, but also on the acceptance and adoption of innovation by all members of the school community. This study aims to examine digital transformation in education from the perspective of innovation diffusion theory in realizing a smart school system. This research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method based on the PRISMA framework, analyzing ten scientific articles and relevant academic sources published between 2021 and 2026. Data were obtained from Scopus, Sinta-indexed journals, and Google Scholar databases. The data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach to identify patterns, determinants of innovation adoption, and conceptual synthesis for developing a smart school system based on the innovation diffusion perspective. The findings indicate that the success of digital transformation in schools is influenced not only by technological availability but also by innovation characteristics, human resource readiness, digital leadership, and organizational support. This study implies that a digital transformation model based on innovation diffusion can serve as a conceptual framework for building an educational system that is adaptive to technological change. Future research is recommended to develop empirical studies testing the innovation diffusion based digital transformation model at various educational levels and institutional contexts, as well as exploring the integration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence in developing smart school systems.

Abstract

This conceptual literature review examines the theoretical integration of Total Quality Management (TQM) principles with Islamic Itqan (professionalism) and Ahsanu ‘Amala (excellence) values to map customer satisfaction in Islamic elementary education. Rather than reporting empirical implementation, the study synthesizes scholarly and Islamic literature to construct a conceptual framework that aligns managerial quality standards with spiritual and character development objectives. Through systematic analysis of relevant publications, the review identifies five core TQM principles (customer focus, total involvement, continuous improvement, visionary leadership, and data-driven decision-making) and recontextualizes them within Islamic educational ethics. The synthesis demonstrates that stakeholder satisfaction emerges when academic quality benchmarks are harmonized with moral and spiritual formation. The review further emphasizes that standard operating procedures (SOPs) are not merely administrative tools, but operational expressions of the Islamic principle of mizan (balance and fairness) in service delivery. By mapping the intersection of modern quality management and Islamic work ethics, this paper offers a conceptual foundation for Islamic elementary schools to synchronize national standards with institutional religious values. It concludes that ethically grounded standardization provides a structured pathway to sustain public trust and service consistency.

Abstract

Educational quality in Islamic schools is profoundly shaped by teacher professionalism, where discipline and loyalty serve as critical human resource drivers. Despite their theoretical linkage, empirical gaps persist regarding how these constructs interact to sustain instructional excellence. This study employs a qualitative thematic systematic literature review to synthesize peer-reviewed publications (2015–2024) examining teacher discipline, loyalty, and educational quality in Islamic contexts. Thematic synthesis reveals that discipline functions as a structural prerequisite for organizational stability, while loyalty operates as a psychological and professional commitment that sustains instructional continuity. The analysis demonstrates a synergistic relationship: internalized discipline fosters role clarity and procedural consistency, which, when mediated by fair leadership and value alignment, cultivates productive loyalty. This loyalty subsequently drives teacher retention, collaborative innovation, and student learning outcomes. The review underscores that disciplinary mechanisms rooted solely in administrative compliance are insufficient; sustainable educational quality requires integrating internalized professionalism, participatory governance, and Islamic ethical values into school management. These findings offer theoretical clarification on the discipline, loyalty, quality nexus and provide actionable insights for administrators designing policies that balance accountability, professional autonomy, and institutional commitment.

Abstract

To remain competitive, educational institutions must develop and sustain a competitive advantage. This study examines strategic management as a driver of competitive advantage, with a specific focus on strategic formulation, implementation, and evaluation based on Fred R. David’s framework. The research employs a qualitative, descriptive approach, utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation at Muhammadiyah 1 Elementary School in Bandar Lampung to analyze how the institution is managed to achieve competitive advantage. The findings reveal that strategic formulation at the school is conducted systematically through a participatory process that engages all stakeholders, aligning with strategic management theory that positions every school component as a critical factor in decision-making. Strategic implementation emphasizes innovative instruction grounded in deep learning principles, dynamic curriculum development, including Indonesia’s Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) and holistic marketing strategies that leverage social media alongside reward systems for teachers and students. Collectively, these initiatives enhance educational quality, strengthen the school’s appeal, and increase student enrollment. Strategic evaluation is carried out comprehensively and continuously, focusing on teacher performance, parent satisfaction, and alignment with the school’s vision and mission. This process supports adaptive decision-making and reinforces the school’s competitive positioning amid shifting educational landscapes. This study offers a novel empirical contribution to Islamic basic education by integrating deep learning pedagogy, community-based marketing, and feedback-driven evaluation within a unified strategic management framework, while also proposing a value-centered integrative model for sustainable quality.

Abstract

The era of Industry 4.0 and Society 5.0 demands adaptive readiness among vocational educators to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into teaching practices. This article analyzes human resource development strategies for teachers at SMK Al Imron Sumenep through the POAC management framework (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, Controlling) to foster optimal synergy between teachers' intellectual capabilities and AI. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach based on field studies and managerial analysis, the findings reveal that systematic implementation of POAC accelerates school digital transformation, enhances administrative efficiency, improves instructional module development, and strengthens graduate workforce readiness. The controlling phase, supported by digital audits, ensures ethical, measurable, and quality-oriented AI utilization. In conclusion, the POAC framework successfully positions AI as an intellectual partner that optimizes teachers' pedagogical and administrative competencies without diminishing their humanistic role. Sustaining this strategy requires visionary instructional leadership, continuous professional development, and institutional policy support. These findings offer a practical model for vocational schools in managing sustainable human-technology synergy.

Abstract

This study discusses the implementation and development of Public Relations programs in Islamic educational institutions, particularly at the Islamic boarding school (pesantren) and university levels. Public Relations plays a role as a strategy to strengthen public relations, build a positive image of the institution, and serve as an effective means of communication between the institution and the public. The research method used is qualitative with a library research approach, which aims to examine public relations theories, concepts, and practices based on previous research and relevant literature. The results of the study indicate that Public Relations in Islamic boarding schools is oriented towards the values of akhlaqul karimah (good character), da'wah (Islamic outreach), and social community involvement. Meanwhile, Public Relations in universities places more emphasis on the digitalization of communication, professionalism, and transparency. The main obstacles faced by both include a lack of understanding among leaders regarding the importance of Public Relations' role in institutional governance, limited human resources, and limited budgets. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen Public Relations capacity based on digital technology integrated with Islamic values to be able to meet the challenges of modern communication and maintain the credibility of Islamic educational institutions in the global era.

Abstract

The accelerating pace of global change has made character education a critical foundation for achieving sustainable human development. This study explores strategies to strengthen character education within the framework of sustainability, emphasizing its role in nurturing ethical and resilient generations capable of addressing contemporary environmental, social, and moral challenges. Using a qualitative descriptive approach based on recent empirical and conceptual literature, this research identifies that character education aligned with sustainability principles fosters not only moral integrity but also environmental responsibility and socio emotional resilience. The study reviews prior research that examined character education through project-based learning, local wisdom, and digital literacy integration, while highlighting a significant gap in linking ethical formation and sustainability competencies. Findings suggest that integrated, contextual, and participatory approaches combining formal education, family engagement, and community collaboration are most effective in shaping sustainable character development. The research contributes to a theoretical framework and practical recommendations for policymakers and educators seeking to cultivate ethically grounded, socially responsible, and future-ready generations in an era of global uncertainty.

Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) over the past decade has significantly transformed the educational landscape, including the increasing use of AI platforms by students to complete academic tasks. This phenomenon raises concerns regarding the potential decline in students’ critical thinking skills due to excessive reliance on technology. This study aims to analyze school management strategies in addressing AI dependency and its impact on students’ critical thinking skills at SMA Ma’arif 1 Pamekasan. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that AI usage among students is widespread, particularly for writing essays, summarizing materials, and preparing presentations. However, the school has not established formal policies regulating AI usage, resulting in fragmented and uncoordinated responses from teachers. High dependency on AI tends to correlate with a decline in students’ argumentation quality and analytical abilities. Nevertheless, AI also holds potential as an effective learning tool when used strategically and supported by adequate digital literacy. The SWOT analysis reveals strengths in the school’s foundational values and teachers’ adaptability, while weaknesses include the absence of formal policies, limited training, and insufficient evaluation systems. This study recommends developing clear AI usage policies, enhancing digital literacy for teachers and students, designing higher-order thinking-based learning, and implementing data-driven monitoring systems to ensure the productive use of AI while maintaining students’ critical thinking skills.
