Abstract

The purpose of this community devotion program is as follows: 1) improve the ability to read the Qur'an and memorize Surah Al-Kahfi verses 1-7, 2) teach theory and practice in the implementation of prayer, as well as 3) provide the theories and introductions about mahram to pupils at the middle school level. The method used in community service at the An-Najah Foundation is Community-Based Research (CBR), a collaboration between the community and higher education institutions, with an action-oriented approach and application of service learning to support social movements to create social justice. The results of this activity in the first cycle show that most students still have difficulties understanding and following the activities carried out because the materials taught are still new to them. However, after the second cycle, the results show that: 1) average students can read the Quran and memorize Surah Al-Kahfi paragraphs 1-7, 2) average students understand the theory and practice of prayer, and 3) average students have an understanding of the theories and knowledge of Mahram.

Abstract

The village of Jaharun B was selected as the site for the Community Service Learning program by students from STAI As-Sunnah due to the presence of Al-Barokah Islamic Elementary School (Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah Awaliyah, MDTA), which serves as the primary educational center for children in the village. Despite MDTA Al-Barokah's crucial role, most children in Jaharun B Village still require a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings and the ability to recite the Quran according to Tajwid rules. The student's participation in the Community Service Learning program is expected to significantly reinforce the role of MDTA Al-Barokah as an educational institution advancing the children of Jaharun B Village in Galang. The method applied in this initiative is asset-based community development, which comprises three main stages: planning, action, and evaluation. The outcomes of this community service project demonstrate notable and positive changes. Abstract

Learning Islamic sciences and the Quran profoundly influences individual and community faith renewal in various aspects. Employing a descriptive research approach, analyzing Quranic verses, prophetic sayings, and community leaders' opinions, a study conducted in Silandurong village during Ramadan revealed a lack of enthusiasm among its predominantly Muslim population for Islamic education and Quranic reading. Reasons include parental neglect in nurturing proper beliefs, societal indifference toward the illuminating religion, and governmental neglect of religious programs. Despite a Muslim majority, attendance at prayers and educational sessions barely reaches 5%, even during Ramadan. To address this, the researcher recommends the establishment of educational councils, memorization circles, and Islamic evening schools for children to revitalize faith and foster community well-being, promoting comfort, tranquility, stability, and security from harm.

Abstract

This article is a review of Marjorie J. Smith's book, Professional Education for Social Work in Britain: An Historical Account, 2022. We present a comprehensive historical expression of the evolution of vocational education for social workers in the United Kingdom in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The focus was on the initial training methods in social workers institutions, the transition to formal training schemes, the establishment and challenges of the School of Sociology, as well as the merger with the London School of Economics (LSE). This paper explores the ongoing tension between academic education and practical professional training in social work. As a valuable resource, this paper outlines the philosophical foundations, pedagogical approaches, and institutional challenges that shape social worker training. Through historical exhibitions, committee reports, and practical work reports, this paper provides a rich narrative that emphasises the importance of comprehensive education that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical skills. The review assesses the content, structure, and contribution of this book to the field of social worker education, exploring the target audience, advantages, and potential constraints as well as their relevance in contemporary discussions on training and preparation of social workers. In conclusion, the merger of the School of Sociology with the London School of Economics is not only a strategic step to maintain the quality and coverage of social worker education but also depicts further reflection on narratives that integrate social thinking and action into a more sustainable institutional framework.
