Abstract

Penelitian ini difokuskan pada bagaimana pengaruh bahasa Indoensia mahasiswa terhadap tulisan mahasiswa terhadap ahasa target. Apakah ada pengaruh dari bahasa Indoensia siswa terhadap bahasa sasaran ketika pada saat mereka menulis. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitaif studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes menulis. Untuk mengetahui pengaruh bahasa Indoensia siswa terhadap pada tulisan mereka, siswa ditugaskan untuk menulis karangan bebas dan produk tulisan mereka sebagai data. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa ada kesalahan yang dibuat oleh siswa merupakan efek dari bahasa Indoensia siswa terhadap bahasa target. Writing instructor disarankan untuk mengidentifikasi meningkatkan pemahaman mahasiswa tehadap bahasa target untuk mencegah efek dari bahasa Indonesia siswa pada saat menulis.

Abstract

Karangan narasi adalah karangan yang berusaha menyampaikan serangkaian menurut urutan kejadiannya oleh karena itu harus disukai oleh siswa kelas VIII dan oleh karena itu di butuhkan pendekatan yang tepat dalam pengajarannya maka dalam penelitian ini dirumuskan beberapa masalah 1)Bagaimanakah kemampuan menulis karangan narasi dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran penemuan siswa kelas VIII SMP Nasional Banau Kota Ternate? 2) Sejauh manakah kemampuan menulis karangan narasi dengan model pembelajaran penemuan siswa kelas VIII SMP Nasional Banau Kota Ternate? Penelitian ini bertujuan; 1) Menjelaskan bagaimana kemampuan menulis karangan narasi dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran penemuan siswa kelas VIII SMP Nasional Banau Kota Ternate. 2) Menjelaskan sejauh mana kemampuan menulis karangan narasi dengan model pembelajaran penemuan siswa kelas VIII SMP Nasional Banau Kota Ternate. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif, penelitian yang berlandasarkan pada filsafat postpositivisme, digunakan untuk meneliti pada populasi atau sampel tertentu, teknik pengambilan sampel pada umumnya dilakukan secara random, pengumpulan data menggunakan intrumen penelitian, analisis data bersifat kuantitatif atau statistic dengan tujuan untuk menguji hipotesis yang telah ditentukan (Sugiono, 2015 :15). Mengenai Menulis Teks Narasi Menggunakan Model Pembelajaran Penemuan Kelas VIII SMP Nasional Banau Kota Ternate. Model pembelajaran penemuan (discovery learning) merupakan nama lain dari pembelajaran penemuan. Sesuai dengan namanya, model ini mengarahkan siswa untuk dapat menemukan sesuatu melalui proses pe mbelajaran yang dilakoninya. Siswa diraih untuk terbiasa menjadi seseorang saintis (ilmuwan). Merekan tidak hanya sebagai konsumen, tetapi di harapkan pula bisa berperan aktif, bahkan sebagai pelaku dari pencipta ilmu pengetahuan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bermaksud mengetahui implementasi integrasi penguatan pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, dan mengetahui peningkatan kompetensi kepribadian mahasiswa melalui integrasi pendidikan karakter. Peneliti mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai utama karakter di dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris pada mahasiswa semester 2 program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris Universitas Khairun dalam menunjukan perilaku sebagai sumber data penelitian. Instrumen yang digunakan oleh penulis adalah dalam bentuk observasi dan tes. Data dalam penelitian ini terutama dikumpulkan melalui penggunaan pre-test, observasi, kuesioner, dan post-test. Setelah data dikumpulkan, peneliti menganalisis berdasarkan empat poin; berahlak mulia dan dapat menjadi teladan, dewasa, arif, dan kepribadian mantap dan stabil. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan teknik deskriptif.  Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penerapan integrasi pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran bahasa  Inggris melalui tiga jenis kegiatan; kegiatan awal, kegiantan inti dan kegiatan ahir dapat meningkatkan kompetensi kepribadian mahasiswa. Rata-rata dari hasil pre-test adalah 60.1 dan rata-rata dari hasil post-test adalah 70,1.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know teachers’ challenges in teaching English to young learners. This is a qualitative research that used qualitative method with interview as research instrument. The researchers selected two English teachers at SD Katolik Santa Theresya. The results show that there were some challenges that faced by the teachers in teaching English to young learners such as teaching listening, motivating students to learn English, and lack of textbook to faciltate the students’ needs. In teaching listening; the teachers found the challenges such as the students were difficult to comprehend or understand when the teachers spoke quickly. The teachers had some strategies to solve the problems to motivate the students, gave attention and care with the students. Besides, using of text book is not related with the students’ need becomes the challenges in teaching English. To solve it; the teachers make another alternative book such as LKS to support the teachers in teaching English in the classroom.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan siswa dalam membaca di SMA Negeri 9 Halut Tobelo Utara. Penelitian ini menggunakan kualitatif metode dengan jumlah siswa 10 orang. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan pre-test dan post-test dalam bentuk pilihan ganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa memperoleh hasil sangat buruk (very poor) dalam pre-test. Dapat dilihat dari rata-rata nilai yaitu 47 dari 10 siswa dan di post-test siswa memperoleh sufficient dengan nilai rata-rata 70 dari 10 siswa. Untuk nilai maksimum pre-test siswa memperoleh nilai sangat buruk dengan nilai 47 dan pada post-test siswa memperoleh sufficient dengan nilai 70 dari 10 siswa. Maksimum nilai siswa memperoleh sufficient dengan nilai 60 dan pada post-test 80 dari 10 siswa. Standar deriviasi siswa memperoleh 10,5pada pre-test dan8,1pada post-test dari 10siswa. Akhirnya variasi pre-test siswa yaitu 67 dan post-test 112,2 dari 10 siswa.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know students’ competence in writing news report at the sixth semester of English Education Study Program at Khairun University. The researcher focuses on students’ writing news report text concering generic structure of the news that included headline, newsworthy of event, background of event and source. The researcher applied qualitative research method, this research involved 15 respondents of sixth Semester of English Language Education Study Program at Khairun University. The researcher used written test the data obtained were analyzed by using content analysis. The result of the data analysis shows that students’ writing in headline of the news 60% (nine students) acquired low competence, 26.6% (four students) acquired middle competence and 13.3% (two students) acquired high competence. Students’ writing in newsworthy of event 53.3% (eight students) acquired low competence, 40% (six students) acquired middle competence and 6.66% (one student) acquired high competence. students’ writing in background of event 53.3% (eight students) acquired low competence, 33.3% (five students) acquired middle competence and 13.3% (two students) acquired high competence. Students’ writing in source there are 6.66% (one student) acquired low competence, 86.6% (13 students) acquired middle competence and 6.66% (one student) acquired high competence. This suggests that, 1) More than 80% students have middle competence in writing source; 2) as accurate, 50-60% students have low competence in writing headline, newsworthy of event and background of event; 3) however, 26-53% students have middle competence in writing newsworthy of event, background of event and headline; 4) moreover, 6-13% students have high competence in writing headline, background of event and source.

Abstract

This research focuses on the analysis of love and hate in the short story “The Mother” by W. Somerset Maugham. The problem question is: How does the author describe love and hate in this novel. The focus of this research is about love and hate and elements of literature that are built in short stories. As a literary work, this analysis uses a descriptive research design that is used to describe the data based on the findings obtained in statements related to love and hate in short stories. The main data is the short story "The Mother" supported by secondary data obtained from various sources, books, magazines and author biographies. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the author described the love in this short story as the love of Eros and Agape. Eros love is described as a relationship due to physical attraction between a man and a woman and vice versa. The main love depicted is the Agape type of love. Although this type of love is a love that does not prioritize itself, it is described as an unusual mother's love for her child. Does not want her child to get another love, but only wants her child for herself. As for hate, the author describes a person's excessive hatred because of his love for his child, the mother becomes hateful, emotional and does not like other people so that the peak of the hatred is realized by taking the lives of others.

Abstract

Problems in this study are (1) How is the ability to write an argumentation by using the power of two students of class XI SMA 5 Kota Ternate? (2) How far is the ability to write an argumentation by using the power of two class XI students of SMA Negeri 5 Ternate? The purpose of this research is (1) To know how the ability to write argumentation by using the power of two students of class XI SMA 5 Kota Ternate. (2) To know how far the writing ability of argumentation by using the power of two model of class XI students of SMA 5 Kota Ternate. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative method by using the formula percentage. The population in this study is the total students of class XI SMA Negeri 5 Kota Ternate, amounting to 120 students. While the sample research is part of the total population that is the overall class XI students SMA Negeri 5 Ternate as much as 30 students by 25%. The results of the research are: (1) The observations found in the students of grade XI SMA Negeri 5 Ternate, the teacher of Indonesian language study has done a good learning process in accordance with the application of curriculum and the development of learning syllabus in accordance with the standard contents in the Plan Implementation of Learning (RPP) to improve student learning outcomes. (2) The results of interviews found by researchers at the time of research data taken between researchers with subject teachers and students of class XI SMA Negeri 5 Ternate, that teachers have teaches students about learning writing argumentation and students can develop a good imagination to pour in the writing of argumentation.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to explore the effectiveness of using animated video in teaching descriptive writing at the fifth semester students of English Education study program of Khairun University. This research employed quantitative descriptive method from which the data of the test are taken from pre and posttest. 20 respondents were chosen by purposive sampling technique to be involved in this research. The data collection technique in this study was a test prior to teach writing using animated video and a posttest after that. From the data analysis of pretest, the respondent obtained the average score of 59.58 whereas their posttest score was 76.18. The score raised 16.60 points from the first to the second test. Overall, using animated video was proved effective in teaching descriptive writing at the fifth semester students of English education study program.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the accuracy of the translation on English idiomatic expression into Indonesian language in the film entitled “Tangled”. This study applies descriptive qualitative with the content analysis that uses textual and comparative analysis. The data source of this study is the film “Tangled” and its subtitle into the Indonesian language. The data collection procedures includes reading the source and the target text of the film script and excerpt the words, phrases, clauses, and sentences, then compare both to generate the data corpus. The data are then analyzed based on the accuracy of translation by Nababan. Based on the data analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that there are accurate, less accurate and inaccurate translation on idiomatic expressions in the “Tangled” film subtitle. From 115 idiomatic expressions found in the movie, 82 of them are categorized as accurate translations, 18 idioms are less accurate and 15 are inaccurate translation. From those findings, it can be stated that the translation on idiomatic expressions in the tangled movie is quite good.
