Abstract

Purpose: This community service activity aimed to increase public awareness and encourage early detection of degenerative diseases, which are increasingly prevalent in Indonesia, particularly among the elderly population. The program was conducted in Tanjung Pule Village, North Indralaya District, to address the lack of public knowledge and limited health check practices related to non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and high uric acid levels. Design/Methodology/Approach: The program was carried out through a combination of health education and free medical check-ups. The methods included community outreach, distribution of health leaflets, and health screenings measuring blood pressure, blood glucose, uric acid, and cholesterol levels using EasyTouch® GCU devices. The activities were conducted in collaboration with the local health post and village authorities. Findings: The program engaged 30 participants and revealed that more than 50% had elevated levels of uric acid and cholesterol. The health education sessions were well-received, with participants demonstrating increased awareness of symptoms, causes, and prevention strategies. These findings indicate a significant need for continuous health monitoring and preventive interventions in the community. Practical Implications: The outcomes of this program can serve as a practical model for other rural areas facing similar health issues. It emphasizes the importance of integrating education with basic health services to promote community-driven health awareness and disease prevention. Originality/Value: This initiative uniquely combines preventive screening with targeted education in a rural setting, addressing an underrepresented issue in community health outreach. The program contributes to reducing barriers to health access and reinforces the role of universities in supporting local public health efforts.

Abstract

Purpose: To identify and develop strategies for preventing personal pain among the residents of Puilau Kabal Village, the majority of whom work in the agricultural and plantation sectors. Methodology: Data collection using a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, involving 12 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out using a structured questionnaire, Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and direct observation of the respondent's work posture. Findings: Theì majority of reìspondeìnts (73.3%) weìreì womeìn with an aveìrageì ageì of 41.7 yeìars. Joint pain complaints weìreì preìdominantly in theì kneìeì (46.7%) with modeìrateì inteìnsity (53.3%). Theìreì was a significant positiveì correìlation (r = 0.68, p < 0.05) beìtweìeìn work duìration and pain inteìnsity. Reìspondeìnts aboveì 45 yeìars had 2.3 timeìs higheìr risk of eìxpeìrieìncing seìveìreì joint pain. Practical Implications: Joint pain preìveìntion programs neìeìd to consideìr eìrgonomic aspeìcts, work timeì manageìmeìnt, and commuìnity deìmographic characteìristics. Eìduìcation abouìt propeìr work postuìreì and streìtching teìchniquìeìs beìcomeìs an inteìrveìntion priority. Originality: This community service provides a contribution to the development of joint pain prevention strategies that are adapted to the characteristics of rural communities, especially in the agricultural sector.

Abstract

Purpose: This community service activity aimed to enhance early childhood education teachers’ knowledge and skills in handling acute injuries in children using the PRICE method (Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). The goal was to provide practical and preventive health education tailored for school-based injury response. Design/Methodology/Approach: The activity was carried out through direct education and demonstration sessions involving early childhood education teachers in Surabaya. Educational media, including posters and leaflets, were used to deliver the material. Demonstrations were conducted to simulate the application of the PRICE method in handling common school injuries. Findings: The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of acute injury management. Teachers actively engaged in the simulation and expressed increased confidence in applying the PRICE method when injuries occur in school environments. Practical Implications: This training is expected to improve the readiness of school staff to respond to minor injuries, thereby reducing potential complications and promoting child safety in early education settings. Originality/Value: The activity contributes to increasing health literacy among non-medical education professionals. It bridges the gap between theory and practice in first aid for children, especially in environments with limited access to immediate medical assistance.

Abstract

Purpose: This community engagement program aimed to enhance the capacity of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in the food sector, in understanding cost classification and systematically preparing production cost estimates. The intervention was intended to address efficiency-related challenges in production management, which are commonly faced by small-scale businesses. Design/Methodology/Approach: The program was implemented through several phases, including initial socialization, technical training, the application of simple technologies, intensive mentoring, and final evaluation. Each phase was designed to provide business partners with both conceptual understanding and practical skills in applying cost classification and production management principles. Findings: The results revealed a significant improvement in participants’ comprehension of cost structures and production management. MSME actors demonstrated greater accuracy and structure in classifying cost components, which directly contributed to enhanced operational efficiency and more informed business decision-making. Practical Implications: The program produced tangible outcomes by equipping participants with the ability to independently prepare production cost reports and income statements. The training and mentoring strengthened their financial management readiness in a more professional and sustainable manner. Originality/Value: This initiative offers an applicable and replicable approach to empowering MSMEs through strengthened financial and managerial literacy. The knowledge gained is expected to serve as a strategic asset in improving operational efficiency and competitiveness amid an increasingly dynamic market environment.

Abstract

Purpose: This community engagement initiative was implemented to enhance public awareness of mental health and healthy lifestyles, particularly in response to the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and psychological stress in urban environments. Design/Methodology/Approach: A community-based participatory approach was employed, involving collaboration among students, faculty members, and local residents in Bandung. The program, known as SAGITA Run, was designed as an inclusive recreational running event integrated with health education. Digital tools such as Google Forms and promotional platforms including WhatsApp and social media were utilized to facilitate registration, coordination, and participant engagement. Findings: The activity attracted 150 participants. Post-event surveys (n = 51) indicated that 100% of respondents reported increased awareness of healthy living practices, while 98% perceived direct health benefits. Moreover, all respondents expressed willingness to participate in future editions of the event. Practical Implications: The implementation of SAGITA Run illustrates the effectiveness of low-cost, student-led initiatives in delivering public health education. It also provides students with meaningful service-learning experiences that promote both civic engagement and academic integration. Originality/Value: This program offers a replicable model for higher education institutions seeking to align academic learning with community needs, contributing directly to the realization of Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being).

Abstract

Purpose: This community service program was conducted in collaboration with Perwakos, a transgender organization in Surabaya, to strengthen economic resilience and institutional capacity. The program aimed to equip participants with digital skills focused on online business and video content creation as marketing strategies. Design/Methodology/Approach: The program began with a needs assessment through initial discussions, followed by structured training on online business, video production techniques, and digital marketing. Hands-on practice accompanied each session. Evaluation methods included pre-tests, post-tests, and assessment of participants’ video projects. Findings: Participants demonstrated notable improvement in digital skills, particularly in creating market-oriented video content. The program also contributed to the development of the Perwakos core team and facilitated network-building with external stakeholders. Practical Implications: The outcomes of this program support the transition of marginalized communities from reliance on informal sectors toward sustainable entrepreneurship. The program also provided practical tools and motivational support to overcome technological and attitudinal barriers. Originality/Value: This initiative presents an inclusive model of digital-based economic empowerment tailored for transgender communities. The integration of skill-building, mindset transformation, and support infrastructure offers long-term value for reducing social stigma and enhancing self-reliance.

Abstract

Purpose: This community service project aimed to introduce the reuse of coffee grounds as an environmentally friendly painting medium to elementary school students. The program was designed to address environmental concerns related to waste mismanagement and to promote creativity through sustainable practices. Design/Methodology/Approach: The activity was conducted by PT Harta Mulia in collaboration with O.G Café as the source of coffee grounds. The coffee grounds were dried for 1–2 days and processed into a painting material. Educational materials on environmental awareness were delivered, followed by a hands-on painting session. The event was held on Sunday, 15 June 2025, from 11:00 to 14:00 WIB at De Karanganjar Agrotourism and involved 30 children aged 7–12 years from several elementary schools. Findings: Participants showed high enthusiasm and successfully created paintings using coffee-based pigments. The activity enhanced children's understanding of environmental issues and demonstrated the potential of waste transformation into artistic expression. Practical Implications: The initiative provided an effective method for environmental education among children and introduced an accessible, low-cost alternative for art materials. It may inspire similar practices in schools or communities aiming to cultivate eco-conscious creativity. Originality/Value: This project combined environmental sustainability with creative education by utilizing an underused waste product. It offered a novel approach to waste reuse, strengthened community engagement, and reflected corporate social responsibility in practice.

Abstract

Purpose: This community service activity was carried out to support the implementation of the "7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children" movement, which aims to shape a golden generation with strong character. The program targets educational institutions at various levels, and in this case, is focused on empowering educators and education staff at SD Methodist 3 Palembang to understand and apply the movement effectively. Design/Methodology/Approach: The activity was conducted through structured socialization sessions and participatory workshops involving all teachers and school staff. The method included concept dissemination, discussion forums, and the formulation of applicable school-based activity plans aligned with the seven habits. Findings: The participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the "7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children" and successfully developed a draft implementation program tailored to the conditions and needs of SD Methodist 3 Palembang. Practical Implications: The movement can be integrated into the school’s character education strategy through systematic and sustainable planning. It strengthens the role of educators in fostering positive behaviors and habits among students. Originality/Value: This activity contributes to national character education by equipping primary school educators with concrete knowledge and practical tools to instill foundational habits that support student development. The collaboration model between higher education institutions and primary schools also enhances the impact of character-based educational movements.
