Abstract

The Guci Sehati Farmer Group in Nagari Lasi faces several fundamental challenges in their agricultural practices, one of which is dependence on synthetic chemical fertilizers. These fertilizers lead to high production costs and trigger degradation of the soil's physical, chemical, and biological structure. The lack of knowledge about using nature-based materials is a challenge for implementing cultivation practices in this farmer group. Additionally, there is an abundance of locally available organic materials such as agricultural waste, weeds, and livestock manure that have not been optimally utilized for producing environmentally friendly fertilizers. This community service program focuses on technical mentoring for making Tithonia-based compost at the Guci Sehati Farmer Group, Kanagarian Lasi, Agam Regency. The main problems faced by partners are high dependency on synthetic chemical fertilizers, expensive agricultural inputs, and suboptimal utilization of local biomass such as Tithonia diversifolia which is abundant in the surrounding environment. The aim of this activity is to empower farmers with skills to make quality organic fertilizer to create more sustainable and independent agriculture. The implementation method includes three main stages: (1) socialization and direct demonstration of Tithonia composting techniques, (2) participatory assistance during the fermentation and turning process, and (3) monitoring and evaluation of compost quality. The mentoring results showed a significant increase in farmers' capacity, where all participants successfully produced Tithonia compost that met physical quality standards, namely dark brown color, crumbly texture, stable temperature, and no odor. The conclusion of this activity is that participatory technical assistance is effective in transferring Tithonia composting technology, reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers, and optimizing local resources, thus directly contributing to strengthening food sovereignty and implementing sustainable agriculture at the farmer level.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has transformed how people access, produce, and disseminate information through various media platforms. While easier access to digital media provides numerous benefits, it also increases the risk of exposure to hoaxes, disinformation, online fraud, privacy violations, and unethical or irresponsible social media use. These challenges highlight the importance of strengthening media literacy and digital skills, particularly among rural communities. This community service program aimed to improve community knowledge, critical awareness, and digital skills in using digital media intelligently, safely, ethically, and responsibly in Talang Pasak Village, Kerkap District, North Bengkulu Regency. The program employed educational, participatory, and contextual approaches through several stages, including needs identification, educational sessions, interactive discussions, simulations for identifying and verifying digital information, safe digital media practices, evaluation, and reflection. The educational materials covered media and digital literacy, identification of credible information and hoaxes, personal data protection, ethical communication on social media, and productive use of digital platforms. The results indicated positive improvements in participants’ understanding and responses, particularly in recognizing information that requires verification, understanding the importance of protecting personal data, and applying ethical principles when interacting in digital spaces. Participants also demonstrated active engagement in discussions and case-based simulations related to everyday social media use. These findings indicate that education based on real-life digital challenges and practical activities can serve as an appropriate strategy for strengthening media literacy and digital skills in rural communities. The sustainability of the program requires continuous assistance, accessible educational resources, and active collaboration between village authorities and community members to foster a critical, safe, productive, ethical, and responsible digital culture.

Abstract

Financial literacy should be introduced from an early age to develop children’s understanding of the function of money, their ability to distinguish between needs and wants, and their habits of being thrifty and financially responsible. However, young children generally have limited knowledge of financial management; therefore, educational activities appropriate to their developmental characteristics are needed. This community service program aimed to strengthen financial literacy and foster thrifty character through early saving education among children at TK IT Baitul Izzah, Bengkulu City. The program employed a participatory and educational approach involving children, teachers, and parents in developing saving habits. The program was implemented through several stages, including initial needs identification, activity planning, interactive learning, saving practice simulations, evaluation, monitoring, and reflection. The educational materials were delivered using simple language, contextual examples, question-and-answer activities, and hands-on practices to facilitate children’s understanding of basic financial concepts. The results indicated positive improvements in children’s understanding and responses toward saving activities. Children began to recognize the benefits of setting aside a portion of their money, understand the basic distinction between needs and wants, and demonstrate greater motivation to develop regular saving habits. The saving simulation also helped children understand that achieving financial goals requires discipline, consistency, and a gradual process. The involvement of teachers and parents was identified as an important factor in sustaining saving habits beyond the program. These findings indicate that interactive and practice-based financial education can serve as an appropriate strategy for introducing financial literacy while fostering thriftiness, discipline, and responsibility among young children. The sustainability of the program requires consistent saving practices at school and at home, supported by continuous guidance and positive reinforcement from teachers and parents.
