Abstract

The cethe culture is a distinctive coffee-drinking tradition originating from Tulungagung Regency in East Java, involving the practice of enjoying coffee while decorating the surface of a cigarette with coffee grounds (cethe) using simple tools such as bamboo sticks or toothpicks. Although it appears modest, this tradition carries strong social and cultural values as it serves as a medium for interaction, communication, and togetherness within the community. Unfortunately, it remains relatively unknown outside the region, despite its significant potential as a unique and authentic cultural tourism attraction. Based on this context, it is important to examine the influence of the cethe tradition on the social life of the Tulungagung community as well as its potential as a medium for regional tourism promotion. The cethe culture symbolizes the cultural identity of Tulungagung, reflecting creativity, solidarity, and a sense of belonging to local heritage. The practice of nyethe is not merely a routine of drinking coffee and smoking, but also an artistic expression and a reflection of the community’s lifestyle. With creative promotion and support from local authorities, the cethe tradition has the potential to become a distinctive tourism icon of Tulungagung, attracting both domestic and international visitors and thereby contributing to sustainable regional income and community welfare.

Abstract

Environmental pollution caused by inadequate waste management is a pressing issue in Indonesia, particularly due to improper handling of household waste, low public awareness, and insufficient local government resources. The challenge is compounded by a significant daily waste accumulation 575 tons in Sidoarjo, of which 227 tons is unmanaged. This journal is important as it explores the role of community engagement in promoting sustainable waste management through initiatives like the Zero Waste competition, which encourages local participation, especially among youth in Sidoarjo. Employing a quantitative research methodology, the study involved 79 respondents from the Kampoeng Sinaoe learning community, using non-probability convenience sampling. Data were analyzed through validity tests, multiple regression analysis, and Likert scales. The findings revealed that tourists play a crucial role in implementing zero waste practices, with high participation rates in activities such as recycling and waste reduction. In contrast, the local government's involvement was minimal. This research underscores the significance of stakeholder participation, particularly the community and tourists, in enhancing waste management efforts. It highlights the need for greater governmental support and local engagement to foster sustainable environmental practices, suggesting that improved collaboration can lead to more effective waste management systems in Indonesia.

Abstract

The development of the digital economy has driven the emergence of gig workers, who are increasingly dominating the labor market. Despite offering flexibility, gig workers continue to face uncertainty regarding welfare conditions, which differ from those of conventional workers. Comparing the welfare of these two groups is essential to provide insights into job quality and its implications for entrepreneurship and inclusive economic development. This study aims to conduct a comparative evaluation of the welfare of gig and conventional workers. Specifically, it seeks to identify the key welfare dimensions that distinguish the two groups and to provide an empirical basis for formulating policies aimed at improving job quality. The research was conducted in the regions of Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Gresik, and Mojokerto, involving 400 respondents, consisting of 200 gig workers and 200 conventional workers. The Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method was employed to ensure comparability of respondents’ characteristics based on age, gender, education level, geographic location, and employment sector, thereby enabling a more valid and reliable comparison of welfare outcomes. The findings reveal that conventional workers enjoy more stable welfare, particularly in terms of income, access to social security, and job security. In contrast, gig workers demonstrate advantages in time flexibility and opportunities to generate additional income. Thus, a trade off emerges between stability and flexibility that differentiates the two types of workers. These results highlight the need for more adaptive labor policies, such as the expansion of social security coverage for gig workers, stronger legal protection, and tailored entrepreneurship development programs. Such measures are expected to enhance multidimensional welfare while fostering the creation of quality jobs in the digital economy era.

Abstract

Anemia is a global health problem characterized by low hemoglobin and ferritin levels due to iron deficiency, which affects growth, cognition, and disease risk, particularly in children and women of reproductive age. Local food–based nutritional interventions such as skipjack tuna (heme iron), spinach (non-heme iron), and dadih (probiotics) have the potential to provide synergistic effects in improving iron status. This study aimed to determine the effect of cookies made from a combination of skipjack tuna flour and spinach with the addition of dadih probiotics on serum ferritin levels, as well as the effectiveness of Sodium Nitrite (NaNO₂) in decreasing ferritin and hemoglobin levels as indicators of anemia. The study used a Post-Test Only Control Group design with 36 female Wistar rats induced with anemia using NaNO₂ at a dose of 25 mg/200 g BW for 18 days, then divided into six treatment groups for 28 days. Ferritin levels were measured using the ELISA method. The results showed that administering cookies made from the combination of skipjack tuna flour and spinach with dadih probiotics significantly increased ferritin levels (P=0.000) compared to the control and single-ingredient groups. NaNO₂ was proven effective as an anemia-inducing agent. This combined cookie formulation has the potential to improve serum ferritin levels.

Abstract

Adolescents are a vulnerable group to depression and suicidal ideation; however, limited studies have explored the dynamic process of resilience as a protective mechanism from adolescents’ subjective perspectives within mental health care settings. This research gap highlights the need to understand how resilience is formed, interpreted, and functions in the psychological recovery of adolescents at risk of suicide. This study employed an interpretative phenomenological approach to explore the lived experiences of six adolescents diagnosed with depression and suicidal risk factors. Data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Three interrelated themes emerged: (1) complex emotional experiences as triggers of psychological crisis, (2) the construction of resilience through self-acceptance and spirituality, and (3) social support as a catalyst for strengthening adaptability. The synthesis of these themes indicates that resilience is not a static trait but a dynamic meaning-making process that fosters hope amid psychological distress. This study contributes to the theoretical understanding of adolescent resilience by emphasizing the interplay between intrapersonal and contextual factors. It provides a conceptual foundation for developing meaning-centered and socially supported clinical interventions aimed at preventing depression and suicidal ideation among adolescents.

Abstract

Critically ill patients experiencing dysfunction in one or more organs are highly dependent on hemodynamic monitoring equipment and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) therapy. Autogenic relaxation is one of the non-pharmacological therapy options that can help stabilize the hemodynamic status of patients because it can provide a relaxing effect, reduce mild to moderate physical and psychological stress and tension, and provide comfort so that hemodynamics become stable. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of autogenic relaxation on the hemodynamics of patients in the ICU at Permata Medika Hospital in Semarang. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test non-equivalent control group design, providing a 10-minute autogenic relaxation intervention twice a day for 2 days to the intervention group. Hemodynamics were measured on the first day before the intervention and on the last day after the intervention. Meanwhile, in the control group, hemodynamic measurements were only taken on the first day and the last day using a bedside monitor and observation sheet. The research population consisted of patients treated in the ICU of Permata Medika Hospital in Semarang, with a sample size of 30 people divided into intervention and control groups. The sampling method was accidental sampling. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test because the results of the normality test showed that the data were not normally distributed. The results of the study showed p-values for systolic blood pressure of 0.340 and diastolic blood pressure of 0.693, pulse of 0.803, respiration of 0.835, body temperature of 0.815, and oxygen saturation of 0.963, indicating no significant difference in hemodynamic status between the intervention group and the control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that autogenic relaxation has no effect on the hemodynamics of patients in the ICU at Permata Medika Hospital in Semarang. These results are likely due to the small and non-heterogeneous sample size. Therefore, further research with a larger and more heterogeneous sample size is needed.

Abstract

The Memorabilia Building “De Javasche Bank” of Bank Indonesia in Padang currently functions as a historical architectural museum, which formerly served as the economic center of West Sumatra. This study aims to analyze the historical architectural elements of the building, particularly the pyramidal roof form, through Roland Barthes’ visual semiotics analysis. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research explores the denotative and connotative meanings of the roof as a visual sign representing the relationship between colonialism, local culture, and modernity. The findings reveal that the pyramidal roof not only serves as structural protection but also carries symbolic meanings that reflect architectural adaptation to the tropical climate and the representation of colonial power. The transformation of the building’s function into a museum signifies a shift in meaning, from a symbol of colonial economic dominance to a medium for cultural and historical preservation. These findings imply the importance of museum interpretation strategies that present visual narratives contextually and educationally, enhancing public awareness of colonial architectural values. Moreover, the results can serve as a reference for developing preservation policies based on the symbolic meanings embedded in architectural heritage. This study contributes to the discourse on historical architecture and deepens the understanding of visual elements as carriers of historical narratives. The results of this analysis can be used in the sustainability of cultural preservation in the city of Padang.

Abstract

Egg consumption is a cheap source of protein needed to meet the needs of the community. During certain seasons, during major holidays, the price of eggs increases due to a shortage of supply, which requires large quantities. Meanwhile, egg consumption and industry demand are very high, necessitating entrepreneurial motivation to produce laying hens. Research on the design of an intranet of things (IoT)-based egg incubator is aimed at Generation Z, encouraging them to become entrepreneurs by leveraging technology. The hope is that entrepreneurship through monitoring egg hatching with gadgets and automatic machine control can increase interest in egg hatching. The prototype egg incubator uses Arduino to monitor the required temperature, humidity, and periodic egg turning. Humidity is regulated by a Wemos D1 WiFi microcontroller using a DHT 22 sensor that can automatically detect humidity at 72% and a temperature of 37°C to 38°C. On the 10th day, the eggs are automatically turned. Egg hatching occurred unevenly for 21 days, from day 19 to 22 of incubation. The remaining eggs failed to hatch. Maintaining humidity by misting the eggs facilitates hatching or cracking the eggshells. The egg incubator design simulation using an Arduino Wemos D1 WiFi with an Intranet of Things network functioned well. The error rate for temperature was 1.78%. The error rate for humidity was 0.99%.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the interest of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Surabaya and Bojonegoro towards adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology for financial reporting, and to understand the influencing factors. AI holds significant potential for enhancing efficiency and accuracy in financial processes. This study utilizes a qualitative, explorative approach, with data collected through semi-structured interviews with 53 culinary MSMEs (23 in Surabaya, 30 in Bojonegoro). Analysis was conducted using the Technology, Organization, and Environment (TOE) Framework. Preliminary results indicate Surabaya MSMEs show higher AI interest for financial reporting than those in Bojonegoro. This difference stems from variations in digital infrastructure and literacy (Technology), organizational understanding and motivation (Organization), and environmental support (Environment). Despite existing interest, many lacks technical capacity. This study provides insights for local governments, universities, and business mentors to design effective digital literacy and AI training programs, fostering improved financial management and local economic transformation.
