Abstract

The existence of Law No. 33 of 2014, which contains changes in the authority of halal certificates from the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) to the Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH), has created a polemic in society. Halal certificate, which was previously voluntary, has now become mandatory. This change in authority raises polemics. The civil society and business actors as agents and the JPH Law as a structure are the basis for the relationship between agents and structures in reconciling this polemic. Giddens' theory, which conceptualizes the duality between agents and structures, can be a useful analysis to reconcile these issues. This study aims to analyze the relationship between agents and structures in the change of authority and explain the duality between agents and structures from the perspective of structuration theory. This type of research is qualitative by using an interpretative approach to the core object of the problem in the study. The result of this study is the existence of a relationship between agents and structures to walk together in implementing halal certification. The agents who play a role in changing halal authority, consisting of BPJPH, business actors, and the general public in the structure (JPH Law), are expected synergize. It is intended to generate civil society who understands the dynamics of agent and structural changes in changing the authority of this halal certification.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors and impact of online games on the behavior of Muslim adolescents in Jorong Tabek, Tanah Datar District, West Sumatra. The field methods used in this qualitative research were observation, interviews, focus group discussions, and the informants' documentation, which were determined by purposive sampling. The theoretical perspective of this research uses structural-functional and hipper-reality. The results of this study indicate that online games have negative and positive impacts on Muslim adolescents. For informants, online games have a positive impact because they are a medium of entertainment, relieve boredom, spend time, enrich friendships, and help them increase their English vocabulary. On the other hand, the informants also admitted that online games impacted negligence in performing prayers and other religious activities such as wirid and tadarus during Ramadan, negligence to studying, forgetting to eat, ignoring parents' words, and saying harsh words up to physical violence. The triggering factors that caused the informants to choose to play online games were boredom, lack of facilities and infrastructure to channel their hobbies, and the fact that the online game was currently viral.

Abstract

Social media use has increased significantly in recent years, including the YouTube platform. The phenomenon allows religious organizations such as the Lampung Province Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to convey religious messages to the wider community. There are various understandings, approaches, and different interpretations of Islamic teachings. This diversity often results in division and tension, increasing the potential for intolerance and radicalism. This article is qualitatively descriptive in analyzing the implementation of religious moderation on the “MUI Lampung” YouTube channel; how MUI Lampung constructed lectures on religious moderation from March 2020 to September 2021. This research aims to discover, describe, and analyze the content of religious moderation da'wah conducted by MUI Lampung using Teun A. Van Dijk's discourse analysis. The conclusions of this study are: (1) Lampung MUI packages da'wah videos by inserting the notion of moderation; (2) in each content of its YouTube channel, MUI Lampung provides support to the government in applying moderation to the community; (3) the affiliation of organizational power in conveying moderation discourse influences the ulema in conveying his da'wah.

This study finds that the short story’s philosophical message relates to God’s plan for His creation; God knows the truth about what would happen to His creation but waits for the best time to show His wisdom. The ethical philosophy values Aksionov owns include submission, truth, justice, and forgiveness. These four values lived on in Aksionov after his wound. He understands that wounds are God's way of getting him closer to Him and making him a better human being.

Abstract

Selametan tolak bala is a ritual that Javanese people usually do during the pagebluk period. During the current Covid-19 pandemic, some people still carry out this ritual. This study seeks to examine from a psychological point of view why the ritual is still carried amid restrictions on community activities. This research was conducted by literature review method using sources from books, previous research, articles from mass media and website pages, aiming to collect theories and pieces of information relevant to the topics studied in this research. The results of this research are selametan tolak bala could be a form of problem-focused coping if the practitioners believed that this ritual could stop the outbreak. It could be a form of emotional-focused coping if the practitioners believed that this ritual is done to eliminate the anxiety. As Javanese local wisdom, whatever the meaning coping strategies, selametan tolak bala could be one of the efforts in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in reducing anxiety levels. Therefore it had to be done by enforcing strict health protocols to avoid the possibility of increasing positive cases of Covid-19 after the ritual implementation, which thwarts the ritual’s purpose.

Abstract

This study investigates the altruism found in the al-Qur'an and its relevance to philanthropic practices in the Satu Amal Indonesia (SAI) organization. This study uses the maudhu'i interpretation method of the al-Qur'an verses related to altruism. In addition to the relevant verses of the al-Qur'an, this study collected data from respondents who filled out several questions through the Google Form. The data is then analyzed in the context of altruistic values and their relevance to philanthropic practices in SAI. This study reinforces previous research that the millennial generation tends to have philanthropic behavior. The millennial generation of members of the SAI organization internalizes and applies the values of altruism contained in the al-Qur'an. In addition, this study reveals that SAI members tend to participate in philanthropic activities carried out online and use social media as a platform for promotion. Overall, this study shows that the millennial generation, particularly members of SAI, apply the value of altruism and show philanthropic behavior; the same values are taught in the Qur'an, to be precise in Q.s. al-Hasyr verse 9. The values of altruism are reflected in patterns of caring, collaborating, sustainable, and cooperative attitudes.

Abstract

The anthropological discussions regarding the concept of mutuality of being by Marshal Sahlins have focused on the idea that kinship only occurs between humans through certain rituals or traditions. This idea is limited in considering non-human species that also potentially form interspecies kinship. Through a multispecies ethnographic approach, this article discusses interspecies kinship in the context of joint agricultural care without exchanging exact amount of payment (liuran) by female farmers in Kampung Laut District, Cilacap Regency, Indonesia. In this study, the data were collected through participant observation techniques and in-depth interviews with four female farmers as key informants who have been involved in liuran for years. The findings showed that the interspecies kinship between female farmers and rice and garden crops is like mother and child because there has been an emotional-ecological bond in the process of caring for sedimentation farming over decades, primarily through taboo practices. The process of caring for rice and garden plants together also forms a socio-economic support system among female farmers, which helps strengthen their interspecies kinship. Considering non-human species as part of the family members places them in an equal relationship with humans in contributing to the sustainability of living ecosystems.

Abstract

This article examines the solutions to the natural environmental damage from the perspective of Tafsir An-Nur by Teungku Muhammad Hasbi ash-Shiddieqy. The study of natural environmental damage by a contemporary Indonesian mufassir in bil-ma’tsur and bir-ra’yi style is essential to understand the local interpretation of Al-Qur’an concerning such damage. Through literature study, this research used a descriptive analysis method to describe the perspectives of Tafsir An-Nur regarding verses on the natural environmental damage and the embedded solutions in al-bī’ah and fasād terms. This article argues that human objectification and greed toward the natural environment are the root of natural environmental damage. Humans’ detachment from the moral-spiritual guidance taught by religion, especially Islam, has led humans to exploitative attitudes toward the natural environment. Tafsir An-Nur offers several solutions to overcome the natural environmental damage, namely interpreting the position of humans as caliphs fairly and wisely, cultivating the qana’ah character, eliminating hypocrisy in behaving, and building mutualistic relationships toward the natural environment. This article shows that efforts to end the damage to the natural environment begin with humans’ attention to moral-spiritual aspects of ecology.

Abstract

This article investigates the possibility of finding common ground between philosophy and Sufism. It aims to answer whether these two can converge on an epistemological level. The discourse of al-'ilm al-ẖudhūri  was used to answer this question. The main source for this article's study is the works of Mulla Sadra and Suhrawardi, which are analyzed descriptively with a philosophical approach. This article concludes that al-'ilm al-ẖudhūri is a form of real knowledge obtained by individuals directly from God without needing mental representation or linguistic symbolism. This knowledge is spiritual, not sensory-rational. Mulla Sadra and Suhrawardi believe that the only way to obtain this knowledge is through spiritual observation by practicing Sufism, which involves the rites of mujahadah and riyadhah.

Abstract

Correctional institutions are undergoing a transformative shift from punitive spaces to acknowledging the humanity of inmates. This study delves into Indonesian correctional facilities' religious-based coaching programs prioritizing inmate protection, reintegration, and dignity. Analyzing these through Islamic law and Maqasid al-sharahprinciples, it explores personality development models and identifies limitations in current approaches. While initial findings showcase positive outcomes—behavioural changes and reduced distress—the study highlights the predominance of lecture-based programs, signalling the need for more comprehensive Islamic law-based models. Different inmate categories, especially those in serious crimes, display varying spiritual indicator weights. Spiritual development correlates positively with behavioural adjustments. Overcapacity issues in certain facilities, like Salemba and Jakarta Women's Correctional Institutions, pose severe challenges—from limited resources to inadequate staff ratios and hindrances in providing proper medical and psychological support, notably impacting drug abuse victims. The study underscores the urgency of restorative justice in sentencing, emphasizing rehabilitation and societal reintegration.
