Abstract

This article aims to analyze the role of philosophy in Islamic educational institutions, specifically at RA Mifrahul Huda Bonangrejo, with an emphasis on the ontological approach in Islamic philosophy. The study is grounded in the urgency of strengthening character, ethics, and moral values in early childhood education amidst moral challenges and the globalization of values in the contemporary era. A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing observation and in-depth interviews with three Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers. The findings reveal that although philosophy has not been explicitly integrated into the curriculum, an understanding of the fundamental concept of being in Islamic philosophy significantly contributes to instilling transcendental values, spirituality, and morality. These findings underscore the importance of revitalizing the role of Islamic philosophy as a conceptual foundation in Islamic education to address the moral crisis and character degradation among the younger generation. Therefore, integrating an ontological approach into early childhood education practices becomes both relevant and imperative.

Abstract

Differences in employees' educational backgrounds are presumed to influence the quality of salon services received by customers, particularly in terms of professionalism and technical competence. This study aims to compare the service quality between salon employees who are graduates of vocational high schools in beauty (SMK Tata Kecantikan) and those from general or non-beauty vocational high schools (SMA/SMK non-kecantikan). Using a quantitative comparative approach, the research involved customer participants from two salons in Bukittinggi City. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire using a 4-point Likert scale and analyzed using the Independent Sample t-Test with SPSS version 0.25. Prior to hypothesis testing, normality (Shapiro-Wilk) and homogeneity (Levene’s Test) checks were conducted. Descriptive analysis showed that beauty school graduates outperformed in the aspects of tangibles, reliability, and empathy but scored lower in assurance. Conversely, non-beauty graduates excelled in reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy, but were weaker in tangibles. However, the t-test results indicated no significant difference in overall service quality between the two groups (p = 0.894 > 0.05). The study concludes that formal educational background does not significantly affect customer perceptions of salon service quality. These findings offer practical implications for salon managers to prioritize training and work experience over educational background in employee recruitment.

Abstract

Human beings are inherently perfect, dynamic, and possess the potential to change and develop. In the field of education, three classical developmental theories serve as foundational frameworks for understanding the origins and growth of human nature. First, Nativism, proposed by Arthur Schopenhauer, argues that human traits are innate and inherited from one’s parents. Second, Empiricism, advanced by John Locke, asserts that individuals develop entirely through experience and environmental influence, rather than heredity. Third, the Convergence theory, formulated by William Stern, combines both perspectives by emphasizing the interaction between hereditary and environmental factors. In the context of educational and scientific advancement, the convergence approach has become increasingly relevant for understanding the complexity of human development. Nevertheless, debates persist regarding which educational elements exert the most influence. This article aims to describe the concept of fitrah from an Islamic perspective as a fundamental distinction from Western views. According to Islam, every human is born with fitrah, a natural inclination toward tawhid, honesty, and goodness, and possesses innate potential that must be guided and nurtured through education. The implication of this concept is that Islamic education must be capable of preserving, managing, and developing human fitrah in alignment with the message of Islam and the divine purpose of humanity as servants and stewards (khalifah) on earth.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on the academic challenges faced by final-year students, particularly in the thesis writing process, which significantly contributes to delayed graduation and suboptimal academic achievement. The research aims to explore the obstacles encountered by students of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program at Universitas Negeri Padang in thesis preparation, as well as to identify solution-oriented efforts by both students and the department. A qualitative approach was adopted using a case study design, involving ten participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s thematic analysis model. The findings reveal that the main barriers include difficulties in selecting a thesis topic, lack of motivation, challenges in academic supervision, low academic literacy, and social environmental influences. In response, students employed self-initiated strategies such as creating study schedules and actively sourcing literature, while the study program provided support through academic guidance and simplified administrative procedures. These findings reinforce the theory of self-regulated learning, which emphasizes the importance of autonomy and self-management in academic processes. The study concludes that a holistic approach, integrating students’ internal efforts with institutional academic policies is essential to accelerate degree completion. The implications include strengthening the academic literature on final-year student challenges and offering recommendations for developing adaptive mentoring systems in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to visualize beauty standards through digital painting as a response to the phenomenon of low self-confidence experienced by some women regarding their bodies and identities. The artworks are intended to represent the uniqueness of women's beauty standards without insecurity, using digital painting as the chosen medium due to its effectiveness, flexibility, and wide reach among the current generation. The creative process followed the art consortium method, comprising five stages: (1) Preparation, (2) Elaboration, (3) Synthesis, (4) Concept Realization, and (5) Completion. The technique employed is digital painting creating artwork digitally using hardware and software, specifically utilizing the Procreate application on an iPad. The final outcome consists of ten artworks, each measuring 100 x 100 cm, titled: (1) Goresan Tubuh, (2) Albino, (3) Topeng, (4) Gadis Kecil, (5) Cerminan Diri, (6) Tanda Lahir, (7) Berbeda, (8) Tanpa Batas, (9) Harmonis, and (10) Pejuang. Each piece conveys a visual narrative reflecting diversity and self-acceptance as a critique of the homogenization of beauty standards. The creation of these works is expected to encourage women to build self-worth, embrace imperfections, and love themselves wholly.

Abstract

Worldview is generally understood as a philosophy or life principle held by individuals, nations, cultures, or civilizations. When related to culture, the meaning of worldview adjusts to the characteristics of that culture, ultimately shaping one’s perception of existence and reality. Dominant factors in the formation of a worldview may stem from philosophy, religion, belief systems, or specific social value structures. Differences in these factors generate a spectrum of perspectives, ranging from those focused solely on worldly aspects to those encompassing metaphysical dimensions. As a framework, worldview comprises fundamental aspects that serve as benchmarks for interpreting life. In this regard, Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas identifies nine core components of the Islamic worldview: God, revelation (al-Qur’an), creation (the universe), the human soul, knowledge, religion, freedom, values and virtues, and happiness. Islam as a worldview offers a complete, eternal, and transcendent value system that, when adopted as a life guide, directs individuals toward true happiness in both this world and the hereafter. This paper aims to examine how Islam as a worldview shapes human attitudes and life orientations. The study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach based on various relevant sources. The findings indicate that the Islamic worldview can serve as a comprehensive life framework for navigating the complexities of modern life.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the high number of adolescents experiencing low self-esteem, with one of the main contributing factors being an unstable family environment or broken home. The research aims to describe the self-esteem of students from broken home families at SMK Negeri 2 Bukittinggi, based on five key aspects: (1) overall self-esteem, (2) significance, (3) competence, (4) virtue, and (5) power. A quantitative descriptive method was employed, with a sample of 144 students selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a self-esteem questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistical techniques. The results indicate that: (1) overall self-esteem falls into the low category, (2) the aspects of significance and competence are in the moderate category, and (3) the aspects of virtue and power are in the low category. These findings suggest that students from broken home families tend to have weak self-confidence and self-perception, particularly regarding personal virtue and strength. The study implies that Guidance and Counseling (BK) teachers play a vital role in providing personal development services through individual counseling, group guidance, information services, and classroom guidance to holistically enhance students' self-esteem.

Abstract

This study aims to identify whether job stress has an effect on work-family conflict among female employees at Bank Nagari, Padang City. The research is driven by the growing phenomenon of working mothers struggling to balance their professional responsibilities with their roles in the domestic sphere. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 98 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using a simple linear regression test. The results indicate a significant positive relationship between job stress and work-family conflict, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.117 suggests that job stress contributes 11.7% to the occurrence of work-family role conflict. The study concludes that higher levels of perceived job stress increase the likelihood of female employees experiencing conflict between professional and family roles. These findings highlight the importance of managerial policies and interventions aimed at promoting work-family balance for women in the banking sector.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between self-disclosure and interpersonal communication among first-year students at the Faculty of Psychology and Health, Universitas Negeri Padang. A quantitative approach with a correlational method was employed. The sample consisted of 505 students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using two psychological scales: the self-disclosure scale developed by Setiawan (2022), based on Leung's (2002) dimensions, and the interpersonal communication scale developed by Siregar (2019), referring to DeVito’s (2011) components. The self-disclosure scale comprised 32 items, while the interpersonal communication scale consisted of 38 items. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation with the assistance of JASP software. The results revealed a positive and significant relationship between self-disclosure and interpersonal communication. This indicates that the higher the level of students’ self-disclosure, the better their interpersonal communication skills. Conversely, low self-disclosure is associated with weaker communication abilities. These findings affirm that self-disclosure is a key factor in fostering effective communication, particularly during the initial stages of campus life adaptation.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subject at SMP Negeri 1 Kinali, West Pasaman Regency, primarily due to the use of one-way teaching methods and limited active student engagement. The objective of this research is to improve student learning outcomes through the implementation of the Cooperative Learning model, specifically the Gallery Walk type. The method employed is Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles, each comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 26 eighth-grade students. Data were collected through observations of learning activities, learning outcome tests, field notes, and documentation. The results show that the implementation of the Gallery Walk model significantly improved student learning outcomes. Although the first cycle showed improvement compared to the initial conditions, it did not meet the success indicators. After adjustments in the second cycle, there was further enhancement in student engagement and learning achievements, surpassing the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM). Students also demonstrated greater enthusiasm and interest in the learning process. The study concludes that the Cooperative Learning model of the Gallery Walk type is effective in improving student learning outcomes in PAI, while also fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.
