Abstract

This study is motivated by the learning fatigue experienced by students, which negatively impacts their concentration and learning effectiveness, as well as student aspirations for the inclusion of ice breaking activities during lessons. The objective of this research is to examine the effect of ice breaking on students’ learning outcomes in the subject of Islamic Religious Education and Character Development for Grade VII at SMPN 3 Lembah Gumanti. A quantitative experimental method was employed, involving 47 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, tests (pretest and posttest), and documentation, and analyzed using a t-test. Descriptive results indicated an increase in the posttest average score for the experimental group (79.38) compared to the control group (75.22), while pretest scores were relatively similar (48.54 and 49.57, respectively). Classical assumption tests confirmed that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. However, the hypothesis testing using an independent sample t-test yielded significance values around 0.177–0.178 (p > 0.05), indicating no statistically significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental and control groups. Therefore, although there was a numerical increase in learning outcomes, the implementation of ice breaking activities did not have a statistically significant effect. The null hypothesis (H₀) is accepted, while the alternative hypothesis (H₁) is rejected.

Abstract

Pesantren are Islamic educational institutions that play a vital role in shaping the character and Islamic values of students (santri) through a disciplined communal lifestyle. For new santri, adapting to the pesantren environment often presents challenges, particularly due to homesickness arising from separation from family and familiar surroundings. This study aims to examine the relationship between homesickness and the adjustment process of new santri at Pondok Pesantren Modern Diniyyah Pasia. A quantitative correlational approach was employed, involving 192 new santri selected using a total sampling technique. The instruments used were the Homesickness Scale by Stroebe et al. (2002) and the Adjustment Scale by Schneiders (1960). Data analysis using Spearman’s correlation produced a rho (ρ) coefficient of 0.484 with a significance level of p = 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant positive relationship between homesickness and adjustment. This means that the higher the level of homesickness, the greater the challenge in the adjustment process for new santri. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the psychological dynamics experienced by new students and serve as a foundation for developing more effective adaptation support programs within the pesantren environment.

Abstract

Technological advancements have driven educators to be more creative and innovative in designing learning activities, including the development of interactive learning media to address student fatigue caused by monotonous instructional tools. This study aims to develop an interactive learning medium based on Lectora Inspire for the topic of the Human Respiratory System for Grade V elementary school students that is both feasible and effective for classroom use. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, and Implementation, and applied a mixed-method approach. The trial subjects consisted of 23 Grade V students from SD Swasta Adicita Mulia Pontianak. Media feasibility was assessed through validation by media and content experts, as well as student responses to the developed product. The results show that the initial media design received a validity score of 0.93, categorized as “very high validity,” while the final product's design and content aspects scored 1.00, also within the “very high validity” category. Student responses reached 87.13%, categorized as “very good.” Therefore, the Lectora Inspire-based interactive learning media on the Human Respiratory System is deemed highly suitable for use and received positive feedback from students.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of sexual harassment among students has become a serious concern in the field of education, particularly in relation to the growing accessibility of pornographic content through digital devices. This article aims to: (1) describe the students’ pornography viewing activities, (2) describe the sexual harassment behaviors among students, and (3) examine the relationship between pornography viewing and sexual harassment behavior among students. The study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive-correlational design. The population consisted of 235 male students in grades X, XI, and XII at SMAN 5 Pariaman during the 2024/2025 academic year, with a sample of 148 students selected using Proportional Stratified Random Sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires on pornography viewing activities and sexual harassment behavior. The results indicate that both pornography viewing and sexual harassment behaviors are at a moderate level, suggesting that these behaviors occur with sufficient frequency to potentially disrupt the school environment. Correlational analysis revealed a strong positive relationship between the intensity of pornography viewing and the tendency to engage in sexual harassment. Contributing factors include the ease of access to pornography, lack of parental and teacher supervision, and limited sexual education in schools. These findings offer practical implications for parents, teachers, and educational policymakers to strengthen monitoring systems, provide comprehensive sexual education, and create a safe and supportive school environment.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on the role of Islamic Education (PAI) teachers in fostering students’ discipline in religious practices within the school environment, despite its significant impact on the development of students' religious character. The purpose of this study is to describe the role of PAI teachers in teaching, cultivating awareness of, and supervising the implementation of congregational Zuhur prayer among students at SMP Negeri 5 Sungai Limau. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was employed, involving 165 students and teachers as participants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed descriptively. The findings reveal that PAI teachers play a role in three main aspects: first, teaching prayer discipline through direct instruction and role modeling; second, fostering religious awareness through motivation and spiritual habituation; and third, monitoring discipline by recording attendance and applying sanctions for non-compliance. These findings support Thomas Lickona’s character education theory, which comprises moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action. The study concludes that the success of cultivating students’ discipline in worship is highly influenced by the consistency, exemplary conduct, and humanistic approach of PAI teachers. The implications include a theoretical contribution to the literature on character education based on religiosity, as well as practical recommendations for schools and parents to strengthen synergy in creating a supportive worship environment. This study also opens avenues for further research on the influence of social environment and family roles in shaping students’ religious discipline.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the need for teachers to develop innovative learning strategies that enhance student interest through engaging and interactive media. One promising approach is the use of puzzle games as a learning medium to facilitate understanding and encourage active student participation. The objective of this research is to examine the effectiveness of interactive learning media based on puzzle games in improving students’ interest and academic achievement in Islamic Religious Education at SMPN 3 Padang Panjang. A quantitative method with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, involving 28 students as the sample. Data were collected through a pretest, treatment using the puzzle game media, posttest, and a learning interest questionnaire, and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the aid of SPSS. The results indicate a significant increase in the average learning outcome from 39.18 to 79.18 after the intervention, with a statistically significant Wilcoxon Signed Rank test result (p = 0.001). Linear regression analysis showed a positive effect of the media on learning outcomes (p = 0.014), and an N-Gain score of 0.6532 indicated a moderate to high improvement consistently across students. The study concludes that puzzle game media are effective in enhancing students’ interest and academic performance, while also promoting active participation in the learning process. The implications of this study span pedagogical and psychological aspects, suggesting that interactive media serve as an innovative strategy to enrich teaching methods, boost motivation, and integratively foster students' spiritual and moral character.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low level of student understanding regarding religious character values in Islamic Religious Education (PAI), despite the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka. The objective of the research is to examine the planning and assess the effectiveness of a PAI teaching module integrated with national religious character values for Phase F at SMA PGRI 2 Jombang. The study employs a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The define stage includes needs analysis, learner characteristics, and content analysis; the design stage involves formulating learning objectives, developing assessment instruments, and designing the module format; while the develop stage includes expert validation and field trials. Validation results show that the module is valid, with scores of 78% from practitioner experts, 89% from content experts, and 100% from module reviewers. Small- and large-scale trials demonstrate increased learning effectiveness, with an N-Gain score of 17.32%. The study concludes that the developed teaching module is effective in enhancing students’ understanding and religious attitudes and is suitable for use in character-based PAI instruction. The findings emphasize the importance of developing contextual teaching materials that integrate religious character values into the national curriculum to cultivate morally upright and nationally conscious generations. Abstract

This study is driven by growing concerns over the widespread influence of social media in students’ lives and its impact on academic performance and learning interest. Phenomena such as declining academic achievement and reduced concentration due to notification distractions during study sessions have become significant issues in educational settings. The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of social media on students' academic performance and learning motivation at SMP Negeri 3 Kinali. A quantitative approach was employed using simple linear regression analysis. The sample consisted of 35 randomly selected students from a total population of 136. A Likert-scale questionnaire was used as the research instrument, and data were analyzed using an F-test. The findings indicate that social media significantly affects students' academic performance, with an F-value of 424.674 > F-table value of 4.15 and a significance level of 0.0001. The impact on learning motivation is also significant, as shown by an F-value of 246.006 > F-table value of 4.15 and a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. Based on these results, the alternative hypothesis is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. The study concludes that uncontrolled use of social media negatively affects students’ academic performance and learning motivation. The implications suggest the need for intensive supervision by teachers and parents regarding social media use, as well as the importance of integrating educational approaches to promote its constructive use in the learning process.

Abstract

The Bersih Desa tradition is a form of cultural heritage that continues to be preserved by the community of Ploso Village, Ngawi Regency, as an expression of gratitude and respect toward ancestors. However, amid the rapid currents of modernization, this tradition faces serious challenges, particularly the declining participation of younger generations. This study aims to examine the implementation, socio-spiritual meaning, and preservation challenges of the Bersih Desa tradition in the context of social change. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Analysis was conducted interactively using triangulation techniques to ensure data validity. The findings show that although the tradition is still regularly performed and holds significant spiritual and social value, there is a shift in perception among the youth, who tend to view it as less relevant. These findings highlight the need for educational and collaborative approaches to engage younger generations, ensuring the tradition’s adaptive preservation. This study contributes to the strengthening of local cultural discourse and recommends the integration of local wisdom values into educational programs and community activities to sustain the tradition amid evolving social dynamics.

Abstract

Social awareness is a critical component in the character formation of students and should be instilled from an early age. This study aims to describe the role of Islamic Education (PAI) teachers in educating, guiding, and directing students at SMPN 1 Bayang concerning the importance of social awareness. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological method was employed, using data collection techniques that included observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that PAI teachers play a role in three key aspects. First, the educational aspect involves teaching social values such as responsibility, honesty, tolerance, empathy, justice, and sharing, as well as delivering exemplary narratives centered on social values. Second, the guiding aspect is implemented through case studies, simulations, social activities, the creation of inclusive classroom environments, direct role modeling, and value-based social counseling grounded in Islamic principles. Third, the directing aspect is realized by encouraging student participation in social initiatives such as community service, infak on Fridays, religious activities during Ramadan, and collective extracurricular programs. These findings indicate that PAI teachers have a strategic contribution to developing students' social awareness through a holistic and practical approach within the context of secondary education.
