Abstract

Pekanbaru City, the capital of Riau Province, has long been a major migration hub in Sumatra, attracting diverse ethnic groups since the early years of Indonesia’s independence. This study aims to trace the migration history of the Batak Toba people to the Palas area from the initial phase through the fourth period, and to analyze their socio-cultural adaptation strategies in the new environment. Employing historical research methods encompassing the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, this study explores the dynamics of population mobility and intercultural interaction. The findings indicate that the migration of the Batak Toba to Palas was driven not only by economic factors but also by cultural values such as marserak, the Dalihan Na Tolu customary system, and the ethos of hamoraon, hagabeon, and hasangapon. The HKBP Church played a pivotal role in strengthening solidarity, preserving community identity, and facilitating adaptation to new social, cultural, and economic contexts. This study concludes that Batak Toba migration is a complex historical process with a significant impact on the formation of social networks and community integration in multicultural urban areas such as Pekanbaru. These findings underscore the importance of cultural values and community institutions in fostering successful social integration in urban settings.

Abstract

Learning of Akidah Akhlak in schools is still dominated by lecture methods and conventional media such as textbooks and student worksheets (Lembar Kerja Siswa, LKS), resulting in low student engagement and interest. This study aims to develop an Android-based learning medium called KIS_U (Akidah Seru) using the iSpring Suite application to create more engaging and interactive learning. The method applied was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) development model, involving 30 Grade X students of MAN 9 Jombang selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and validation by media and content experts. Validation results indicated feasibility ratings of 91% from media experts and 95–98% from content experts, both categorized as “highly valid.” KIS_U was found effective in increasing student engagement and aiding material comprehension. The study concludes that KIS_U is suitable for use as an innovative alternative in Akidah Akhlak learning. The implication is that integrating interactive technology into religious education has the potential to enhance learning quality while encouraging students to learn more actively and enjoyably.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the suboptimal customer satisfaction in using the Access by KAI application for the Pariaman Express train service, which is presumed to be influenced by ease of use. The research aims to determine the effect of ease of use on customer satisfaction. A quantitative associative research design was employed, involving 98 respondents determined using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through a four-point Likert scale questionnaire, which was tested for validity and reliability using SPSS 26.0. The ease-of-use variable was measured based on five indicators from Quesenbery (2004), while customer satisfaction was measured based on three indicators from Indrasari (2019). Simple linear regression analysis shows that ease of use has a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction, with the regression model Y = 9.444 + 0.485X. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.641 indicates that 64.1% of the variation in customer satisfaction is explained by the ease of use of the application, while the remainder is influenced by other factors. In conclusion, the higher the ease of use of the Access by KAI application, the higher the customer satisfaction with the Pariaman Express train service.

Abstract

The appropriate use of learning media plays an important role in improving students’ understanding, particularly in Islamic Religious Education. This study is motivated by the low understanding of Grade VII C students at SMP Negeri 2 Kabuh regarding the topic of wudhu, which has so far been delivered mainly through lectures, despite the school having audio-visual facilities that have not been optimally utilized. The research aims to describe the implementation of audio-visual media in teaching wudhu, determine the improvement in students’ understanding after its use, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its application. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that the use of audio-visual media, such as instructional videos, can improve students’ understanding, as reflected in their active participation in learning activities and better evaluation results. Supporting factors include the availability of supporting facilities and students’ enthusiasm, while inhibiting factors include limited instructional time and technical constraints. The study concludes that audio-visual media are effective in enhancing the quality of wudhu instruction at SMP Negeri 2 Kabuh.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on digital literacy and online ethics among junior high school (SMP) students, particularly in the post-truth era, which amplifies the spread of invalid information. The objective is to explore changes in students’ critical awareness and understanding of digital ethics through a participatory education program based on digital literacy. The research employed a qualitative, community service–based case study approach involving 35 SMP students in Gresik selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal improvements in students’ digital awareness, information verification skills, and ethical attitudes. Unlike similar programs that are typically delivered as passive seminars, this activity emphasized contextual simulations and reflective discussions grounded in local contexts. These results reinforce the theory of critical digital literacy and provide practical contributions to digital curriculum development.

Abstract

The limited research on the implementation of literacy culture in the Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam (Islamic Cultural History) subject has become a critical concern, as it affects students' learning interest. This study aims to describe the implementation of literacy culture in SKI lessons, analyze its supporting and inhibiting factors, and identify the teaching strategies employed by educators. A qualitative method with a case study approach was used, involving eighth-grade students at MTsN 3 Padang Pariaman, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that literacy culture is implemented through routine activities such as reading textbooks for 10–15 minutes, group discussions, and summarizing tasks. Supporting factors include teacher commitment, a conducive learning environment, and institutional support from the madrasah, while obstacles encountered involve students forgetting to bring books, limited instructional time, and extensive lesson content. The teaching strategies employed comprise expository and cooperative strategies. These findings support school literacy theory and highlight that consistent literacy habits can enhance students’ active participation and learning interest. The implications of this study contribute to enriching the discourse on school-based literacy culture and offer practical recommendations for teachers to optimize literacy-based teaching strategies, while also opening avenues for further research on the impact of literacy culture on academic achievement in other subjects.

Abstract

The limited research on the application of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) has become a significant concern, as it contributes to low student creativity and a lack of practical understanding of religious values in daily life. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the PjBL model through a cooking project and its impact on enhancing students’ learning creativity in PAI. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving five participants (one teacher and four students) selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that implementing PjBL through a cooking project effectively enhances student creativity across four key indicators: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. These results align with constructivist theory and PjBL pedagogical principles, demonstrating that cooking projects can serve as an innovative method for linking theory with practice in PAI learning. The study's implications include a theoretical contribution to the literature on PjBL effectiveness in the PAI context and practical recommendations for PAI teachers to develop contextual, project-based instructional methods. Additionally, this research opens pathways for further studies on project duration and group arrangement strategies to optimize student creativity.

Abstract

Writing instruction at MA Unggulan K.H. ABD Wahab Hasbullah, Tambakberas Jombang, remains heavily reliant on conventional textbooks, which tend to be less engaging and insufficient in motivating students effectively. This study aims to (1) develop an interactive e-book using the Calibre application to enhance writing skills, (2) test its effectiveness, and (3) assess its feasibility. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The study involved 39 tenth-grade students from class X-4, with data collected through material expert validation, media expert validation, pre-test and post-test, and student response questionnaires. Validation results indicated that the interactive e-book received an excellent feasibility rating: 100% from the material expert, 92.5% from the media expert, and 97% from student responses. The effectiveness test, measured using the N-Gain method, yielded an average score of 0.58 (moderate category), indicating an improvement in writing skills following the use of the e-book. It is concluded that the interactive e-book developed using the Calibre application is highly feasible and effective for teaching writing skills. The findings suggest that Calibre-based learning media offer an innovative, interactive, and flexible alternative that can enhance learning motivation, foster active student engagement, and support independent learning across various subjects.

Abstract

Mathematics instruction at SMA Negeri 1 Mojosari, particularly in Grade X trigonometry, remains dominated by conventional media such as PowerPoint and videos, resulting in low student engagement and suboptimal numeracy literacy outcomes. Observations and interviews revealed that approximately 75% of students had not reached the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKTP) score of 75 in trigonometry quizzes. This study aims to develop the educational game TERAVEN of Majapahit using Construct 2 as a learning medium to enhance high school students’ numeracy literacy, while also assessing its feasibility and student response. The research method employed was Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model, encompassing analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Instruments included validation questionnaires by media and content experts, student response questionnaires, and numeracy literacy tests. Validation results showed scores of 89.9% from the media expert and 94% from the content expert, both categorized as "highly valid." Small group trials yielded a practicality score of 79.5%, and large group trials 69.94%, both falling under the “practical” category. The numeracy literacy test indicated an 80% mastery rate, categorized as “high.” These findings confirm that TERAVEN of Majapahit is a valid, practical, and effective medium for mathematics learning. The study also underscores the importance of integrating interactive digital media rooted in local wisdom to create engaging and contextual learning experiences, especially for trigonometry—a topic often perceived as difficult.

Abstract

Arabic vocabulary learning at the madrasah ibtidaiyah level continues to face several challenges, including students' low memory retention, the use of monotonous teaching methods, and limited access to interactive learning media. At MI Nurul Falah Muaro Jambi, these issues are evident among sixth-grade students who struggle to understand and retain vocabulary. This study aims to develop an interactive barcode-based Arabic vocabulary learning medium, assess its validity, and evaluate its effectiveness in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which encompasses the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data were collected through expert validation, classroom observation, learning outcome tests (pre-test and post-test), and teacher and student response questionnaires. The results indicate that the developed learning medium achieved an average validity score of 88.4%, categorized as “highly valid and feasible.” Effectiveness testing revealed a significant improvement in student learning outcomes, with average scores rising from 51.1 on the pre-test to 86.4 on the post-test. These findings suggest that the interactive barcode-based learning medium is not only valid but also effective in enhancing Arabic vocabulary acquisition at the madrasah ibtidaiyah level. The implication is that simple technologies such as barcodes can serve as innovative solutions that support improved learning outcomes, student motivation, and learner autonomy, while aligning with the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka.
