Abstract

This article aims to analyze the acceptance of the concept of shura in the Qur'an in Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra. Here, the concept of syura has been adapted into a leadership philosophy called tungku tigo sajarangan. Where did this philosophy originate, and how did the community accept the concept of syura, which was transformed into the tungku tigo sajarangan philosophy? This study uses a qualitative method, with data collected from two sources: literature and field data. Literature data was collected from various references discussing the concept of shura in the Qur'an, while field data was obtained from research subjects in West Sumatra. The method used was a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach and acceptance theory introduced by Ahmad Rafiq as an analytical tool to track informative and performative sources from texts and practices, as well as to observe the process of transmission of a practice and its transformation within society. This study found that the philosophy of tungku tigo sajarangan, which teaches about the deliberation procedure in Tanah Datar, was informatively transmitted from the concept of shura found in QS. Ali Imran [3]: 159 and QS. As-Syura [42]: 38. Performatively, it is transmitted from the form of deliberative practice carried out by the Prophet and his Companions in the books of interpretation and history. Then, the deliberative practice was transformed by the people of Tanah Datar into a philosophy of custom, namely the philosophy of tungku tigo sajarangan.

Abstract

The techniques of talaqqi and musyafahah are fundamental approaches in the realm of Qur’anic education, concentrating on the authoritative and direct manner of delivering recitation. However, contemporary studies frequently limit their examination of these methods to their technical aspects and practical educational outcomes. This study aims to investigate the talaqqi and musyafahah techniques within the context of teaching the reading and writing of the Qur’an, utilizing a library research method grounded in a narrative literature review format. Data was collected from both historical and contemporary sources, which consisted of Qur’anic exegeses, hadith collections, turath literature, and relevant scholarly journal articles. The collected information was analyzed utilizing content analysis and thematic analysis techniques. The results suggest that talaqqi and musyafahah serve not just as practical teaching techniques but also as strategies rooted in deep theological and knowledge-based principles, which are evident in how the Qur’an was revealed and in the educational methods used by the Prophet Muhammad. The combination of recitation, documentation, ethical learning, and spiritual refinement (tazkiyah an-nafs) establishes these techniques as comprehensive teaching methods. This research aids in broadening the conceptual framework of Qur’anic education by emphasizing the importance of talaqqi and musyafahah in modern Islamic education, especially in preserving recitation accuracy, cultivating Islamic character development, and ensuring the ongoing transmission of scholarship.

Abstract

Inclusive Qur’anic education demands pedagogical approaches that respond to the diverse cognitive, emotional, and sensory characteristics of children with special needs, as conventional memorization models often emphasize technical accuracy while overlooking how the Qur’an is experienced and embodied in daily learning. This study examines Qur’anic memorization as a lived religious practice through the implementation of the Tajdied Method at Mumtaz Elementary School, Sidoarjo. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with Qur’an teachers, inclusive facilitators, and students, as well as institutional documentation. The data were analyzed thematically within a living Qur’an framework. The findings reveal that the Tajdied Method—integrating rhythmic movement, melodic recitation, and mnemonic reinforcement—encourages affective involvement and embodied engagement with the Qur’an. Memorization is thus positioned not merely as a cognitive achievement but as an emotionally mediated and socially situated religious experience. Learning outcomes varied, influenced by attention span, sensory sensitivity, emotional regulation, and teacher–student interaction. This study contributes to living Qur’an scholarship by reframing Qur’anic memorization among children with special needs as an experiential, contextual, and socially embedded religious practice.
Reconstructing Qur’anic Social Ethics: A Thematic Exegesis of Ta’awun and Its Implications for Social Assistance Governance in Indonesia: (Merekonstruksi Etika Sosial Al-Qur’an: Tafsir Tematik tentang Ta’awun dan Implikasinya bagi Tata Kelola Bantuan Sosial di Indonesia) Meliani, Fitri

Abstract

The governance of social assistance in Indonesia reflects a structural ethical crisis characterized by weak accountability, limited transparency, and the misuse of authority that disproportionately affects vulnerable groups. This condition indicates a significant gap between Qur’anic ethical values and contemporary social policy practices. This study aims to reconstruct the Qur’anic concept of ta‘awun as a framework of Qur’anic social ethics to analyze the misuse of social assistance in the Indonesian context. Employing a qualitative approach, this research applies a contextual thematic (maudhu’i) interpretation method integrated with Islamic social ethics, analyzing Qur’anic verses related to ta‘awun through Makkan–Madinan classification, semantic analysis, and thematic synthesis, supported by classical and contemporary Qur’anic commentaries as well as social policy literature. The findings demonstrate that ta‘awun encompasses three interrelated dimensions: a spiritual dimension as the foundation of the human God relationship, a social dimension emphasizing solidarity and collective responsibility, and a normative dimension defining ethical boundaries of cooperation. The principle of ta‘awun ‘ala al-birr wa al-taqwa embodies accountability, distributive justice, and transparency in social assistance governance, whereas the misuse of social assistance represents an institutional manifestation of ta‘awun ‘ala al-ithm wa al-‘udwan. This study concludes that reconstructing ta‘awun as a Qur’anic ethical framework provides a relevant normative foundation for strengthening ethical and accountable social assistance governance. The novelty of this research lies in integrating thematic Qur’anic interpretation with Islamic social ethics and contemporary governance discourse, positioning ta‘awun as an institutional ethical principle rather than merely an individual moral injunction.

Abstract

The study discusses the phenomenon of the Living Qur'an in the burial of the deceased. Using the Living Qur'an approach, which focuses on the community's understanding of the readings they often use in a practice called mappasuru, the researcher used observation and interview methods and techniques as well as documentation, namely collecting data through field observations and discussions with mappasuru practitioners. The main sources are the results of interviews and observations, supported by relevant journals that discuss the issues in general. The results of the study on the Living Qur'an phenomenon in the practice of burying the dead in Tampumia Village show that: first, the mappasuru’ procedure begins when the body is lowered into the grave until the coffin is closed. Second, the recitations used are Q.S al-Fatihah/1:1-7, QS Taha/20:55, QS al-Fajr/89:27-28. Q.S Quraisy/106:1-1 and Q.S al-Ikhlas/112:1-1. Third, this study shows a shift in the function of the Qur'an from textual-informative meaning to performative meaning. In the practice of mappasuru, the community prioritizes the sacredness and efficacy of the ritual (benefits) of the verse over the accuracy of its literal meaning. This implies that in contemporary Qur'anic studies, the authority of the text lives not only through the interpretations of scholars, but also through its functional reception within the community.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the formation of self-concept according to Hamka in Tafsir Al-Azhar and its implications for Islamic psychology. Using a literature analysis approach and Hasan Hanafi's maudhu'i interpretation, this study explores the integration of Qur'anic values in the formation of a healthy self-concept, covering psychological, moral, and spiritual dimensions. The main focus is to analyze how Hamka relates self-concept to spirituality, desire control, and the application of moral values in the Qur'an. This study also connects Hamka's thoughts with modern psychological theories, such as self-actualization and self-regulation, to address issues of identity and mental health in modern society. The results of the study show that Hamka's concept of self is based on purification of the soul (tazkiyatun al-nafs), which is the foundation for forming a healthy concept of self that is capable of facing psychological and social challenges. The implication is that the integration of spirituality and morality in the formation of self-concept provides a holistic approach to overcoming mental health and identity crises. This study offers a new perspective in the development of Islamic psychology by incorporating spirituality in the formation of a positive self-concept, as well as opening up further research potential for practical applications in mental health, character education, and community development.

Abstract

The Qur’an possesses distinctive linguistic characteristics, one of which is the phenomenon of similarly or identically worded verses (mutasyabih al-lafdzi). This phenomenon has generated diverse responses, ranging from Orientalist views that regard it as an indication of textual irregularity to Muslim scholars who understand it as part of the Qur’an’s rhetorical inimitability (i‘jaz Al-Qur’an).This study specifically aims to: 1) identify the forms of mutasyabih al-lafdzi in the Qur’an; 2) analyze the methodological principles of taujih in explaining variations among similar verses, and; 3) formulate a systematic framework of taujih principles integrated with classical tafsir and modern Qur’anic linguistics, while offering a scholarly critique of Orientalist views on Qur’anic repetition. This research employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach through a literature review of classical and contemporary tafsir works as well as specialized studies on taujih al-mutasyabih al-lafdzi. The analysis applies semantic, contextual, and rhetorical perspectives to uncover the relationship between lexical variation and the communicative purposes of the verses. The findings indicate that similarities in Qur’anic wording are not random but follow systematic and functional linguistic patterns. Each variation reflects meaningful adjustments to thematic context, pedagogical aims, and discourse structure. The novelty of this study lies in formulating a structured and integrative taujih framework that bridges classical exegetical tradition with modern linguistic theory and effectively addresses claims of textual inconsistency in the Qur’an. Thus, this study affirms the strategic role of taujih in strengthening the Qur’an’s internal coherence and deepening understanding of similarly worded verses.

Abstract

This study addresses the scholarly problem of the use of religious texts as a basis for territorial legitimization over Jerusalem in contemporary historical-political discourse. While numerous exegetical studies discuss the city’s sanctity and prophetic history, there remains no systematic conceptual formulation of a Qur’anic model of ownership and sovereignty over the territory. This absence constitutes the research gap addressed in this article. Employing a qualitative method through thematic exegesis (tafsir mawduʿi) grounded in conceptual analysis, the study examines Qur’anic verses related to al-arḍ, al-arḍ al-muqaddasah, and al-masjid al-aqṣa. These verses are analyzed in light of classical and contemporary interpretations and reconstructed to identify patterns of legitimacy, conditions of inheritance (warathah), the concept of istikhlaf, and mechanisms of mandate revocation in prophetic history. The findings reveal that the Qur’an articulates a theocentric and conditional concept of ownership: the earth belongs to God, while human authority constitutes a moral trusteeship subject to ethical evaluation and possible withdrawal. The study’s novelty lies in demonstrating that the Qur’an not only rejects ethnically grounded territorial claims but also corrects genealogical claims over Prophet Abraham as a foundation of territorial legitimacy by affirming that those closest to Abraham are Prophet Muhammad and those who uphold his monotheistic faith. Theoretically, this article proposes the model of Divine Conditional Sovereignty, a framework of delegated and morally contingent divine authority.
