Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of sensory aesthetics in a public space photography exhibition as a form of media art practice that supports the city branding of Malang City. The exhibition was held during the Ngalam Culture Festival at Kampung Skabrom and integrates visual experiences, the environment, and social interactions that engage visitors in creating perceptions of the city's identity. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and visual documentation. The results show that sensory aesthetic experiences involving sight, hearing, and social interactions play a crucial role in strengthening visitors' emotional attachment and connection to the city. The findings reveal four main themes: historical atmosphere, visual sensory aesthetics, community sound, and representation of the city's identity. This research contributes to expanding the theory of city branding based on sensory experiences and emphasizes the importance of public art in creating inclusive and participatory city narratives. The study also provides recommendations for creative city planning that involves public participation through media art in public spaces.

Abstract

The intensity of urban stress experienced by adults in big cities, such as Jakarta, has led to the emergence of active recreational facilities that play a role in restoring physical and mental balance. Play activities have the potential to be a medium for healing, but until now, play areas in shopping centers are still dominated by concepts for children, making them less relevant for adult users. This study aims to examine the potential for developing indoor playgrounds for adults as active recreational facilities in malls. The method applied is a descriptive qualitative approach through literature study, direct observation of six playground facilities in the Jakarta-Tangerang area, and a survey of 57 adult respondents. The results show that the facilities are not suitable for adult needs, particularly in terms of privacy, safety, activity balance, and design approach. Based on these findings, this study formulates the concept of an Adult Interactive Play Lounge that integrates moderate physical activity, creative activities, social elements, and interactive technology to provide a holistic healing experience in an urban mall environment.

Abstract

This study examines cultural representation in food photography through a visual analysis of food photographs with the theme of Makan Bajamba used in calendars. The focus of the study is directed at how visual elements, namely composition, lighting, shooting angles, colors and object arrangement, play a role in constructing cultural meaning and representing the social and ritual values of the Minangkabau people, especially in Koto Gadang, West Sumatra. This study uses a qualitative approach with visual semiotic analysis methods to identify cultural signs in each photo. The results show that food photography in calendars functions not only as an aesthetic medium, but also as a representational device that emphasizes collective identity, social hierarchy, and interaction patterns in the practice of Makan Bajamba. The calendar as a distribution medium strengthens the function of photographs as reminders of cultural cycles, symbolic archivists and visual educational tools. In conclusion, the integration of food photography in calendars produces a visual narrative that combines culinary aesthetics and the rhythmic structure of tradition, thus opening up space for reinterpreting cultural practices in a contemporary context.

Abstract

The visual and material adaptation process of illumination motifs from the ancient manuscripts of Puro Mangkunegaran into interior products, specifically floor surfaces. As part of Javanese visual heritage, manuscript illumination contains rich ornamental forms embedded with symbolic, aesthetic, and spiritual values. Transforming these motifs from manuscript media into flooring requires a design approach that not only involves stylization but also considers functional relevance and material characteristics in a modern context. The process examined includes motif selection and classification, form simplification (stylization), modular repetition and composition, as well as color and scale adjustments tailored to interior visual needs. The stylized motifs are then applied to various flooring materials such as ceramic and natural stone using digital printing and manual techniques. Collaboration with local ceramic industries was carried out to test the technical and aesthetic feasibility of the transformed designs. The results show that adapting Mangkunegaran manuscript illuminations into floor products enriches interior aesthetics while serving as a practical means of cultural preservation in contemporary design. This research recommends further adaptation of traditional visual heritage into other interior elements to promote the integration of local identity within modern spatial design.
