Abstract

Evaluation of the salinity resistance of Superwin as a local rice of North Sulawesi, is still very limited. This study aimed to examine the growth response of Superwin compared with Ciherang variety to various levels of seawater salinity at the germination phase. The research commenced with planting rice seeds using the Roll Paper Test method, then growing them under salinity treatments of 0, 10, and 20% seawater. The observed rice growth responses were the percentage of germination, the length of seminal root and shoot, the ratio of seminal root length: shoot length and the vigor index. The results of analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that the percentage of germination, the length of seminal root and shoot, and vigor index were significantly different between two varieties and among salinity treatments. The interaction between factors of variety and salinity treatment caused differences in the ratio of seminal root length: shoot length. Superwin showed higher percentage of germination, the length of seminal root and shoot as well as vigor index than Ciherang. The 0% and 10% salinity treatments showed a higher percentage of germination, the length of seminal root and shoot as well as vigor index than the 20% treatment. The ratio of seminal root length and shoot length was a potential indicator of salinity stress in Superwin rice. Keywords: Germination; rice; salinity; superwin

Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the use of the Fackler method in determining the reserve of unit-linked whole life insurance premiums. Unit-linked whole life insurance combines both protection and investment features, and to mitigate liquidity risks, it is crucial for the insurer to establish reserves. The insurer limits the value of the benefits obtainable through a minimum guarantee and stamp value to counteract losses that may arise due to fluctuations in share prices. The Fackler method is employed to calculate the reserve of unit-linked whole life insurance premiums by determining the cash value of annuities using a fixed interest rate in conjunction with the Indonesia Mortality Table 2019. Subsequently, an annual net premium is calculated. The calculation of the annual net premium necessitates the determination of a single net premium, which is computed using the Point to Point method with the result is . The outcome of this calculation yields the reserve value for a 40-year-old individual. It is noteworthy that the reserve value will increase with the lifespan of the individual or the duration of the policy contract. Keywords : Fackler method;  premium reserves; Unit-linked

Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the quality and antioxidant activity of solid body soap with the addition of Eucheuma spinosum powder as a scrub. Soap was made by the saponification method between oil (a mixture of olive oil (44%), coconut (24%), and palm (32%)) with NaOH. This study consisted of 4 treatments: (1) without adding algae powder (control) with cold process (TC), (2) adding algae powder with cold process (SC), (3) without adding algae powder (control) with hot process (TH), and (4) the addition of algae powder with a hot process (SH). Soap quality was evaluated using the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 3532:2021 method, and antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. Parameters tested consisted of pH, total fat, water content, matter insoluble in ethanol, free fatty acids, chlorides, non-saponifiable fats, and the percentage of DPPH inhibition. The results showed that the quality of scrub soap complied with SNI for parameters of pH, content of water, matter insoluble in ethanol and chloride; and did not meet SNI for parameters of total fat, content of free fatty acid and unsaponifiable fat. The percentage of DPPH inhibition of each bath soap at a concentration of 150 µg/mL soap solution was 58.97% TC, 76.76% SC, 56.11% TH and 70.13% SH. Scrub soap with the addition of algae powder had higher antioxidant activity than without the addition of algae powder, both in cold and hot processes. Abstract

The people of South Sulawesi employ beligo as a plant with fever-reducing properties. The utilized part is the flesh of its fruit. The beligo fruit contains fatty acids, flavonoids, phenolics, and steroids that hold promise as antipyretic agents. The study aimed to determine the antipyretic activity of ethanolic extract from beligo fruit flesh on male Wistar rats induced with peptone solution. The research method encompassed maceration extraction using 70% ethanol solvent and antipyretic activity testing using 15 male Wistar rats divided into five treatment groups. Group I served as the negative control and received SODIUM-CMC 1%, groups II, III, and IV received ethanolic extract of beligo fruit flesh at doses of 250 mg/kg BW, 500 mg/kg BW, and 750 mg/kg BW respectively, and group V, the positive control, received paracetamol tablets. Measurements of initial temperature, temperature after induction, and temperature after treatment were taken at 30-minute intervals for 180 minutes. Data were statistically analyzed using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and Duncan test. The research findings revealed a fever reduction percentage of 1,57% for group I, 4,03% for group II, 4,28% for group III, 4,45% for group IV, and 5,25% for group V. Data analysis indicated that ethanolic extract of beligo fruit flesh at doses of 250 mg/kg BW, 500 mg/kg BW, and 750 mg/kg BW exhibited significant antipyretic activity (p < 0.05).
