Abstract

Study aims to identify and analyze the types of direct sentences in opinion texts on women's education published on the IDN Times website in the April 2024 edition. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature study method, which is also supported by simple quantitative data analysis to determine the proportion of each type of direct sentence. The analysis results show that of the eleven direct sentences found, the majority are statements of fact, followed by statements of opinion and invitations or appeals. This finding indicates that opinion-text writers prioritize concrete data and facts to strengthen their arguments. However, opinion and invitation elements are still present as rhetorical elements that enrich the narrative and enhance persuasion efforts toward readers. Therefore, using direct sentences in opinion texts proves effective in conveying social issues and building public understanding, especially regarding the importance of education for women.

Abstract

The use of language in everyday life often goes wrong. Good and correct language use significantly affects a person's reading process. Quality writing adheres to proper linguistic rules. However, many language errors are often found in written texts. This study aims to analyze language errors in opinion texts published in the November 2024 edition of the apakabarnusantara.com website. Another purpose of this study is to evaluate whether the opinion texts on the website are suitable as reading material for 12th-grade high school students, helping them understand proper language use in opinion writing to enhance their language skills. The methods used in this study are qualitative descriptive analysis and a syntactic approach as the theoretical framework. Data were collected by reading several relevant references and recording information that could be used as data. The analysis of this study revealed the use of non-standard words in both texts, such as the word mempengaruhi, which is a common misspelling of the correct form memengaruhi in Indonesian. Both words translate to influence in English, but only memengaruhi is considered standard. Another example includes the use of foreign terms such as best practice. In terms of coherence, the analysis found sentences that introduced new information abruptly, rather than reinforcing the previous ideas. Logical sentence structure was also an issue, as some sentences lacked clarity and failed to convey a clear message to the reader. Additionally, there were ineffective sentences due to the repetition of the same words. This research aims to provide deeper insight into language errors in opinion texts and to promote a better understanding of how to write opinion pieces using correct and appropriate language rules.

Abstract

The proper use of language in opinion texts plays a crucial role in constructing clear and convincing arguments. However, various sentence errors are still found in opinion texts, which can hinder readers' comprehension. This study aims to analyze sentence errors in social-themed opinion texts published on the Tirto website in February 2025 and evaluate their implications for language and literature learning to enhance students' critical thinking skills. The research method used is qualitative descriptive analysis with a linguistic approach. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using syntactic theory. The study results show that the most dominant errors include improper conjunction usage, ineffective clause structures, as well as spelling and punctuation mistakes. These errors have the potential to cause ambiguity and weaken the quality of argumentation in opinion texts. These findings indicate that error analysis can be used as teaching material in language and literature learning to improve students' critical thinking abilities. Therefore, this study recommends integrating syntactic analysis and opinion text analysis into language learning to develop better language skills.
