Abstract

Elections are an important moment for every citizen to participate in determining the direction of governance. However, voter participation, especially among the elderly, faces significant challenges. In Indonesia, the low voter turnout, partly due to the phenomenon of "golput in Bahasa" (abstain voters) or not exercising the right to vote, has become a serious concern. In several previous elections, there has been a noticeable decline in participation among the elderly, indicating a lack of understanding of their important role in the democratic process. The lack of socialization is one of the factors contributing to elderly voters not exercising their voting rights. Additionally, specific health conditions often experienced by the elderly add complexity to the issue of abstaining voters. As a vulnerable group, the elderly frequently face physical and mental challenges that hinder their participation in elections. To address this issue, a community service program themed "Socialization and Education on Preventing Abstain Voters for Elderly Voters with Special Health Conditions in Pemecutan Kaja Village" is expected to provide the necessary education to encourage the elderly to exercise their voting rights in elections.

Abstract

Concerns about the increasing prevalence of deviant behavior related to sexual activities and sexual harassment, where teenagers often become victims, must be addressed intensively by all sectors, including academia. This concern serves as a strong motivation for the Community Service Team from the Faculty of Law to focus on the prevention and mitigation of sexual violence among adolescents, specifically at Secondary School Number 6 Kota Jambi. The selection of this location is based on the understanding that junior high school students are a vulnerable group, susceptible to becoming victims due to their emotional instability and heightened curiosity. Preventive efforts are implemented by providing students with better knowledge and understanding, enabling them to protect themselves and their peers while fostering awareness of anti-sexual violence in their environment. The outreach method involves several stages, including preliminary assessments, problem identification, and the socialization of various regulations related to antisexual violence. Socialization activities are conducted through presentations and discussions between the team and the students. The final stage includes periodic evaluations conducted by the school to assess the development of students' knowledge and behavior regarding sexual violence and harassment. In conclusion, this research conveys a message about the importance of higher education institutions in supporting students to understand legal issues related to sexualviolence that frequently occur today.

Abstract

This community engagement initiative was designed to enhance organizational behavior and foster a productive work culture within Kumau Laundry, a household-scale MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) located in Lubuk Begalung, Padang. A participatory approach was employed through capacity-building workshops, the co-creation of shared organizational values, and the facilitation of internal communication mechanisms. Data were gathered through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and focused group discussions. The outcomes reveal notable improvements in internal communication effectiveness, the consolidation of a collaborative work culture, better discipline management practices, and enhanced customer service quality. The findings suggest that modest, behavior-focused interventions can yield significant positive impacts on the organizational dynamics of household-scale MSMEs. The practical implications underscore the importance of incorporating soft skills development into MSME empowerment models, beyond the conventional focus on technical and business capacities. Nonetheless, the initiative faced limitations, including a restricted number of respondents and a short implementation period, indicating the need for longitudinal evaluations to assess the sustainability of these initial changes.

Abstract

Managing oyster shell waste in coastal regions remains a significant issue, requiring solutions that add economic value while ensuring environmental sustainability. This community service program supported residents of Gisik Cemandi Village in converting oyster shell waste into livestock feed, aligning with circular economy principles. Activities included observations, interviews, educational sessions, discussions, training, and practical application. The initiative showed promising results: 90% of participants recognized the benefits of waste processing, and 70% showed enthusiasm for future training. It effectively increased community knowledge and skills in producing livestock feed from shell waste. From a scientific perspective, it highlights the application of circular economy and social innovation using local resources. Socially, it empowered the community—particularly women in the shellfish sector—and promoted local food security. Challenges such as limited processing tools will be addressed through proposed equipment support, the formation of small cooperatives, and ongoing community-based training. These efforts aim to ensure long-term sustainability and establish Gisik Cemandi as a model for community-driven waste management that aligns with sustainable development goals.

Abstract

The implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in port embankment construction is crucial for improving the security and durability of coastal infrastructure. The main goal of OHS is to prevent, reduce, or eliminate workplace accidents, which is particularly important given the potentially serious consequences of such incidents. This research focuses on the distribution and training of OHS practices, particularly stressing the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce accident risks. The program involved forming two groups of five people each, who participated in a structured socialization and training session. To assess the effectiveness of the program, participants were given pre- and post-activity questionnaires to measure their knowledge of OHS and safety building principles related to port embankment construction. The findings show that applying OHS principles led to significant improvements in safety measures and a reduction in workplace accidents. However, challenges persist, especially regarding the local community’s comprehension of OHS protocols and consistent PPE usage. Ongoing training and more stringent supervision are recommended to improve OHS implementation further. These enhancements would ensure the safety and well-being of workers on construction sites more effectively.

Abstract

This community engagement program was conducted to address organic waste accumulation in the Gentala Arasy tourism area of Jambi City, which contributes to environmental pollution and affects public health. In collaboration with Bank Sampah Omah Sinau, the initiative focused on converting sugarcane pulp and corn cobs into fish feed for local biofloc-based catfish farming. The program adopted a participatory model consisting of awareness campaigns for local vendors, technical training in waste processing, modification of waste shredders to electric motor systems, cultivation of black soldier fly (BSF) larvae, and the production of pellet feed using organic waste materials. The modified equipment significantly reduced noise and air pollution while improving processing efficiency. Community members were actively involved in all stages, with evaluation results indicating that 70% of participants had developed the skills to independently produce pellet feed. The program also included workshops on financial literacy and small-scale business planning to support long-term sustainability. Despite challenges such as inconsistent waste supply and the absence of a structured distribution system, the initiative successfully enhanced the community’s capacity in sustainable aquaculture practices. This model highlights the potential of integrating appropriate technology and waste management for community empowerment and circular economic development.

Abstract

Addressing sexual violence in higher education must be a top priority for several critical reasons. First, it causes serious harm to victims—physically, socially, and psychologically. Second, many incidents go unreported due to stigma or pressure from perpetrators, forcing victims into silence. Third, sexual violence is often normalized and not seen as requiring urgent action. Behaviors like catcalling, loud sexual remarks, whistling, or inappropriate physical contact—such as touching or poking—are frequently overlooked as forms of sexual violence. To tackle this, continuous and structured legal education must be promoted. This is especially vital for partner institutions like undergraduate students at the Midwifery Academy of the Health Polytechnic under the Ministry of Health in Jambi Province. Raising awareness and strengthening understanding of sexual violence prevention should be embedded in educational environments. Additionally, establishing a dedicated task force at Poltekkes Kemenkes Jambi is an essential preventive step. This task force would help ensure a safe and supportive academic atmosphere, where all members of the campus community can participate in learning and other activities without fear of harassment or violence. These efforts aim to build a campus culture that fully rejects and prevents all forms of sexual violence.

Abstract

The development of housing has become a government focus, particularly with the introduction of subsidized housing. However, current residential construction often prioritizes financing and aesthetics, neglecting other critical aspects such as environmental conditions and climate factors, including natural lighting and air circulation. Limited public knowledge about these issues contributes to the lack of consideration for natural lighting in home construction. This aspect is vital for creating environmentally friendly homes, as utilizing sunlight can reduce electricity consumption, leading to cost efficiency and environmental sustainability. Therefore, training and outreach are necessary for the community in Nyogan Village, Mestong District, Muaro Jambi Regency, focusing on the use of natural lighting in eco-friendly home design. The existing conditions in Nyogan often result in power outages lasting up to two days, highlighting the need for natural lighting during the day and evening. The training involved local infrastructure officials, carpenters, and community members, providing them with pocket guides on eco-friendly home construction emphasizing natural light utilization. This community service activity has enhanced public knowledge about sustainable housing and increased interest in building environmentally friendly homes.
