Abstract

This research highlights the importance of preserving language and cultural identity in an increasingly powerful era of globalization. Globalization and information technology accelerate cultural interaction but also promote the homogenization of values thru the dominance of foreign languages. Using the novel Bumi Cinta as the research object, this study analyzes cultural encounters thru the characters of Ayas and Ilena. With a literary futurology approach, this research explores the role of language as resistance to globalization and the transformation of cultural identity. The novel "Bumi Cinta" by Habiburrahman El Shirazy was chosen as the research object because it presents the dynamics of cultural encounters thru its characters, particularly Ayas and Ilena, who explicitly display tension, resistance, and identity negotiation. This research uses a qualitative method with a literary futurology approach. The analysis focuses on the dialog, narrative, and cultural symbols contained in the novel, with language projected as a medium of resistance and transformation of cultural identity in the face of globalization. Data was obtained from the novel's text and analyzed interpretively using the theoretical frameworks of cultural identity and futurology. The research findings indicate that the character Ayas uses Indonesian and Arabic as a form of resistance against foreign cultural influences and as a symbol of collective identity resilience. Meanwhile, the character of Ilena reflects the process of negotiating and transforming identity thru her openness to learning Islamic language and values. The Moscow backdrop as a multicultural space reveals the interplay between local traditions and global influences. This finding confirms that language not only maintains cultural continuity but also serves as an instrument of cultural diplomacy capable of projecting the direction of future identity. Thus, literature plays a strategic role as both a medium of reflection and projection in maintaining and negotiating cultural identity in the era of globalization.

Abstract

This study examines the semantic meaning of the Qur’anic term rahmah as a concept of universal compassion and its relevance to the ecological crisis and global warming. The modern environmental crisis reflects humanity’s loss of spiritual awareness toward the sanctity of nature as a manifestation of divine mercy (?y?t All?h). This research applies Seyyed Hossein Nasr’s ecotheological framework, which views nature as the tajall? (manifestation) of divine mercy, using a qualitative descriptive approach through lexical-semantic analysis of Qur’anic verses containing the term rahmah (e.g., QS. Al-Anbiy?’ [21]:107; QS. Al-A‘r?f [7]:156; QS. Ar-Ra?m?n [55]:1–13). The analysis was conducted in three stages: lexical, semantic-conceptual (based on Toshihiko Izutsu’s theory), and theological-ecological. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and expert judgment. The findings reveal four main dimensions of rahmah: theological (rahmah il?hiyyah), social (rahmah ins?niyyah), cosmological (rahmah kauniyyah), and contemporary ecological (rahmah ekologiyyah mu‘??irah). These dimensions collectively form the foundation of an Islamic ecological ethic that situates compassion as the core principle in environmental management and preservation. The study concludes that a spiritual approach grounded in the value of rahmah offers an alternative paradigm for addressing ecological crises by emphasizing balance and harmony between God, humanity, and nature.

Abstract

This research is motivated by differences in perspectives regarding the function and meaning of bookstores in the socio-cultural contexts of two countries. Bookstores are not only seen as places for buying and selling transactions, but also as social spaces that represent literacy culture and the dynamics of urban society. The purpose of this research is to identify the influences and similarities between two novels originating from different cultural backgrounds, while simultaneously exploring the communal space in books that is represented as a social and cultural space. This research examines the novels Toko Buku Abadi by Yudhi Herwibowo and the novel Book's Kitchen by Kim Jee Hye. The research focuses on two main aspects: first, revealing thematic similarities and writing styles that can indicate the existence of influence. Second, examining the function of bookstores in forming literacy communities. The results show that both novels display similarities in depicting bookstores as transitory spaces, momentary escapes, and places of nostalgia that reflect a longing for authentic literacy experiences. The bookstores in both works disguise the ideal function of a buying and selling space and the formation of a literacy community. From the perspective of intertextuality, no similarities or influences were found between the two novels. In each novel, the bookstore serves a social function as a communal space, reflecting challenges and cultural transformations. The representation of the bookstore in both works reflects the changing meaning of literacy spaces in urban society.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the dimension of genius, which is a cutting-edge sector that sees the subjectivity of the female by Kristeva. The main character of the novel is named Nada. This research looks at how Nada has a level of intellect and freedom within her genius dimension. Kristeva shows the dimension of female genius itself through life and thinking skills. Nada can easily enter public spaces through the power of critical thinking. The method employed in this research is qualitative descriptive. The material object is the novel Fi Qalbi Unsä Ibriyah, which serves as the research data. The data source consists of texts that are primary data, comprising dialogues, descriptions, or actions in the novel regarding the characteristics of a female’s genius. This research is based on Julia Kristeva's theory of Le Génie Féminin. The results of the research show that everything in Nada and her actions is evidence of what Kristeva refers to as the dimension of female genius. The significance of Nada's genius lies more in action, life, and thoughts. As Kristeva thought, Nada is looking at evidence of female’s talent through three dimensions. Nada builds mechanisms through self-actualization by bodily speaking and acting. She let go of the stigma that had been attached to her family tradition for a long time. Therefore, the highlight noted researchers are not at the end of the story, but on the capabilities of females and the efficiency of females’ processes over their ideas and positions. Their abilities are what Kristeva terms a feminine genius. every woman exists within her own dimension of genius, as far as she is capable of challenging the sociohistorical conditions of identity (as a woman).

Abstract

The folktale “Peulandok” discusses “cleverness” as a reflection of ethics and social strategy. Along with the development of the times, folktales are increasingly less popular among today's children. Its fading popularity among the current generation raises concerns about the loss of transmission of local wisdom values. This study aims to explain the story of “Peulandok” in the Acehnese narrative, ethics and positive social strategies that can be taken from the Peulandok story. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques through interviews and reviewing the works of Acehnese artists related to the Peulandok story. Data analysis techniques through data reduction, data collection, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Abstract

International media have extensively covered the ceasefire agreement reached between Hamas and Israel in October 2025, a critical juncture marked by both hope and profound uncertainty. This study examines how CNN International framed this agreement and the underlying context of the prolonged conflict. Using Robert Entman’s framing theory (Problem Definition, Causal Diagnosis, Moral Judgment, and Suggested Remedies) and a qualitative descriptive methodology, we analyze a news report and an analysis piece from CNN International on this topic. Data were collected through systematic reading and annotation, then analyzed using a thematic model aligned with Entman’s framework. The study reveals that CNN International consistently employed a narrative frame of “Celebration and Trepidation.” The media defined the core problem as the precarity of the truce and the high risk of failure due to structural uncertainties (disarmament, governance). The cause of the current success was attributed to US-led diplomacy, while the cause of the uncertainty was rooted in historical failures and the complexity of the political endgame. The media made a moral judgment through strategic empathy, balancing the joy of Israeli hostage families with the mass casualties in Gaza, and proposed solutions centered on logistical control and sustained US leadership for the transition and reconstruction phases. The implication of these findings for language studies is that discourse linguistics and critical discourse analysis (CDA) are effective tools for uncovering the strategic construction of balance and the subtle ideological biases in news texts. By analyzing narrative structure and contrasting emotional language, we demonstrate how language not only reports political realities but also shapes public perceptions of risk and governance in post-conflict scenarios.

Abstract

nt This study, entitled “Kal?m Amr: The Literal and Figurative Meanings”, investigates the linguistic and rhetorical dimensions of Kal?m Amr—imperative speech in Arabic—as discussed in the field of ‘Ilm al-Bal?ghah. The issue is significant because the Qur’an, as the pinnacle of Arabic eloquence, employs Kal?m Amr not only to express commands but also to convey deeper meanings such as advice, threat, or supplication. Previous research has tended to focus on grammatical or syntactical elements, leaving a conceptual gap in exploring semantic variations and contextual interpretation between ?aq?q? (literal) and maj?z?y (figurative) meanings. This study aims to fill that gap by analyzing the contextual shifts in meaning and communicative purposes behind imperative forms in Qur’anic discourse Using a qualitative-descriptive and library-based method, this study examines classical and contemporary Arabic rhetorical works, including key texts such as the Qur'an, Hadith, and classical tafsir. The data was collected through a documentation study, where various written sources, including books, journal articles, and religious texts, were gathered and reviewed. Data analysis was performed using thematic and comparative approaches, focusing on the shifts in meaning and communicative purposes behind imperative forms in Qur’anic discourse. To ensure the validity of the findings, textual indicators (qar?’in) were identified and cross-checked with multiple sources to account for potential variations in interpretation. This triangulation method helped to validate the interpretations and strengthen the study's conclusions. The findings reveal that Kal?m Amr extends beyond literal instruction, encompassing diverse rhetorical functions shaped by social, theological, and communicative contexts. The study concludes that understanding the distinction between ?aq?q? and maj?z?y meanings enriches the interpretative depth of Qur’anic language and enhances appreciation of its aesthetic and spiritual eloquence.

Abstract

Abstract

Speaking skills are one of the essential language competencies in learning Indonesian, particularly in helping students express ideas accurately and fluently. However, various national studies indicate that many students still face difficulties in speaking, both in terms of accuracy and fluency. This study aims to analyze students’ speaking performance in depth, focusing specifically on accuracy and fluency within classroom question-and-answer activities. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, as the research emphasizes portraying students’ oral performance naturally without any experimental manipulation. Data were collected through direct observation of classroom interactions, audio and video recordings of students’ utterances, interviews with students and teachers, and documentation of instructional materials. Data analysis consisted of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through technique triangulation, source triangulation, and member checking. The findings indicate that students’ speaking abilities are developing but remain suboptimal. In terms of accuracy, some students were able to use context-appropriate vocabulary and form simple grammatical structures correctly, yet errors in diction, ineffective sentence construction, and unclear pronunciation were still commonly found. Regarding fluency, students tended to exhibit long pauses, word repetitions, and hesitation when giving spontaneous responses. Psychological factors such as anxiety and low self-confidence significantly influenced their speaking performance. These findings highlight that the question-and-answer method effectively stimulates spontaneous responses but requires structured practice to improve both accuracy and fluency more optimally.

Abstract

Arabic is one of the subjects learned in schools. Many students experience difficulties in memorizing and understanding vocabulary due to learning methods that are less engaging. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Total Physical Response (TPR) method in Arabic vocabulary learning at MTsN 3 Surabaya and to determine its effectiveness in improving students’ mastery of mufrodat. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through classroom observations and questionnaires. The results indicate that the implementation of TPR created a more active and enjoyable learning atmosphere, enabling students to remember vocabulary more easily through physical movement. Students responded positively to kinesthetic learning activities, and approximately 90% were able to follow the teacher’s instructions correctly. The findings also show an increase in students’ vocabulary comprehension after using TPR. Overall, the TPR method proved effective in enhancing students’ understanding and mastery of Arabic vocabulary.
