Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of digital pedagogy in teaching the Arabic listening skill (maharah istima’) through the use of animated videos, as well as to measure its effectiveness in improving students’ engagement and comprehension in the madrasah context. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach supported by quantitative data to strengthen the field findings. The data sources included Arabic language teachers, eighth-grade students, and instructional documents. Data collection techniques consisted of structured observations, in-depth interviews, documentation, and formative assessments in the form of simple pre-tests and post-tests to measure improvements in listening comprehension. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data verification was conducted using source and technique triangulation. The results indicate that the use of animated videos successfully enhanced students’ motivation, attention, and participation in listening activities. Quantitative findings show a significant increase in the average listening comprehension score, from 71.25 on the pre-test to 91.87 on the post-test, reinforcing the qualitative results that animation helps students understand vocabulary, sentence structures, and conversational contexts more concretely. The teacher served as a digital facilitator guiding students through the pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening stages. Overall, the integration of animated videos proved effective in supporting digital-pedagogy–based listening instruction and is highly relevant for wider implementation in madrasah settings.

Abstract

The transformation of educational technology has driven the emergence of various innovations in language learning, including the teaching of Arabic. This study analyzes the effectiveness of integrating the Fun Easy Learn application and the Quizizz interactive quiz platform in enhancing students’ motivation, engagement, and learning outcomes in Arabic language learning at MTs. The method employed is descriptive, based on a literature review, examining various scholarly sources related to the use of interactive digital media. The findings indicate that Fun Easy Learn effectively strengthens vocabulary acquisition and basic language skills through interactive exercises, while Quizizz provides game-based assessments that are engaging and motivating for students. Students’ responses to both media were highly positive, reflected in increased participation, focus, and confidence in answering questions. The challenges identified include limited devices, unstable internet connections, and teachers’ readiness. Overall, the integration of these two digital media has the potential to improve the quality of Arabic language learning when supported by adequate infrastructure and teacher competencies.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of using Wordwall-based learning media on students’ Arabic language comprehension at MTsN 4 Sidoarjo. A quasi-experimental research design with a pretest–posttest approach was employed involving 15 eighth-grade students as participants. Data were collected through pretest and posttest items and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired samples t-test. The findings reveal a substantial improvement in students’ learning outcomes after the implementation of Wordwall. The mean score increased from 67.33 on the pretest to 83.20 on the posttest, with a gain of 15.87 points. Furthermore, the standard deviation decreased from 7.088 to 3.364, indicating more consistent student performance after the intervention. The paired samples t-test obtained a t-value of –9.134 with a significance level of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), confirming that Wordwall had a significant effect on improving Arabic language comprehension. These results demonstrate that Wordwall is an effective digital learning medium for enhancing vocabulary mastery, understanding of language structure, and overall Arabic learning achievement at the secondary level.

Abstract

he transformation of learning paradigms from teacher-centered to student-centered learning (SCL) positions students as the main actors in constructing knowledge, collaborating, and reflecting on learning outcomes. In the context of Arabic language instruction, particularly maharah kalam (speaking skills), this approach is highly relevant since speaking competence requires continuous interaction and negotiation of meaning. This study aims to improve students’ speaking skills through the integration of SCL with cooperative learning models such as Think-Pair-Share, Jigsaw, Numbered Heads Together, and role-play. The method employed is Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted over two cycles using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Qualitative data were collected through observations, interviews, and field notes, while quantitative data were obtained from pre- and post-oral tests in each cycle. The findings indicate that in Cycle I, there was an initial improvement in students’ speaking fluency and confidence, although participation remained uneven and several students struggled with vocabulary. In Cycle II, after the implementation of vocabulary scaffolding, role rotation, performance rubrics, and peer feedback, students demonstrated more significant progress, marked by more stable fluency, more accurate vocabulary use, and more active and collaborative interaction. Challenges such as lack of confidence and unequal participation were minimized through role-based cooperative strategies. These findings affirm that the integration of SCL and cooperative learning models is effective in enhancing maharah kalam and provides practical learning designs that Arabic language teachers can apply in various educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the gamified digital quiz platform Blooket in improving the vocabulary retention (mufrodat) of Madrasah Tsanawiyah students. The research is grounded in the issue of low vocabulary retention resulting from conventional teaching methods that are less appealing to digital-native learners. The study employed a quantitative research method with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pre-test and post-test model. Data were collected through written tests administered before and after the treatment, while supporting data were obtained through observations of student activities during the learning process. The test instruments were validated using content validity by experts and measured for reliability through Cronbach’s Alpha/KR-20 to ensure consistency. Data analysis included descriptive statistics to examine changes in student scores and inferential statistics through a paired sample t-test to determine the significance of the improvement. The results revealed that the students’ average score increased from 63.20 on the pre-test to 84.13 on the post-test. The N-Gain score of 0.57 indicates a medium-to-high level of effectiveness. The t-test result showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, confirming a significant difference after the use of Blooket. These findings demonstrate that Blooket’s gamification features—such as real-time competition, points, and repeated practice—create an interactive and enjoyable learning environment that enhances vocabulary retention. Therefore, Blooket is effective as an alternative instructional media for improving Arabic vocabulary retention among students at MTsN 4 Sidoarjo.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using the demonstration method in improving Arabic vocabulary mastery among eighth-grade students (Class VIII F) at MTsN 4 Kota Surabaya. The focus of this research arises from the issue of less interactive learning, as teachers often rely on lecture-based methods that fail to sufficiently motivate students and do not provide concrete learning experiences. The study employed a quantitative approach involving 32 students through the administration of pretest and posttest assessments. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, paired t-test, and Cohen’s d effect size calculation. The results indicate that the data meet the assumptions of normality and equal variances. The paired t-test revealed a highly significant improvement between the scores before and after the application of the demonstration method (p < 0.001), while the effect size value of 5.20 signifies a very strong influence. In addition to the increase in test scores, observations showed positive changes in students’ learning behavior; they appeared more enthusiastic during demonstrations, more focused when the teacher presented the material, and more confident in asking and answering questions. Students also became more active in applying new vocabulary through practical exercises, creating a more dynamic learning environment compared to before. Overall, the findings confirm that the demonstration method is not only effective in enhancing learning outcomes but also successful in increasing students’ motivation, participation, and engagement in Arabic language learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the narrative structure in the short story collection Memburu Muhammad by Feby Indirani by applying Seymour Chatman’s theoretical framework, which distinguishes between the components of story and discourse. The research is grounded in the need to understand how contemporary literary works construct meaning through narrative organization, particularly those addressing social, spiritual, and humanistic issues. The data consist of textual excerpts, events, actions, characters, and discourse elements found in five selected short stories Rahasia Rumah Kami, Bakso Terenak di Dunia, Dia Bertanya Tentang Tuhan, Kisah Cinta Azazil, and Melukis Tuhan, with the short story collection serving as the primary data source. Data were collected through close reading, observation, and note-taking, followed by systematic classification using Chatman’s analytical categories. The analysis employed a qualitative descriptive method by reducing data, identifying the structure of story and discourse, interpreting their narrative functions, and examining how both components interact to shape the thematic meaning of each story. Data validation was conducted through theoretical triangulation and referential adequacy to ensure the accuracy of interpretation. The results show that all five stories exhibit coherent story structures composed of kernels, character actions, events, characterizations, and settings, while their discourse elements appear through variations in narrative sequencing, flexible points of view, and symbolic-reflective linguistic style. These findings indicate that Feby Indirani successfully integrates story and discourse to create meaningful narratives that are communicative, aesthetically rich, and capable of encouraging readers to engage critically with moral, spiritual, and humanistic issues.

Abstract

Environmental and gender issues are two urgent and interconnected problems. Exploitation of nature often goes hand in hand with the oppression of women, especially in patriarchal and capitalist systems. Therefore, it is important to examine the literary work in the form of selected short stories from the 2025 edition of Kompas, which represents this interconnectedness. Literature is considered relevant because it serves not only as entertainment but also as a medium for social criticism and ecological reflection. The research methodology uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a content analysis design. Primary data consists of short stories published in Kompas in 2025, while secondary data is obtained from theoretical books and scientific articles. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation, reading, note-taking, and text classification, which were then analyzed using an ecofeminist perspective. The research examines how the relationship between women and nature is represented in short stories. By identifying narratives that feature symbols, metaphors, and events linking gender oppression with ecological damage. The study results show that women are depicted as both a marginalized group and agents of resistance, while nature is positioned as a neglected entity. Ecofeminist analysis reveals that the exploitation of women and nature both stem from the logic of patriarchal domination and capitalism. This research not only demonstrates the relevance of gender and environmental issues in literary texts but also makes a significant contribution to the study of contemporary Indonesian literature by introducing an ecocriticism-feminism perspective as a new lens for understanding the social, cultural, and ecological dynamics manifested in contemporary literary works.

Abstract

Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan hasrat yang dimiliki oleh tokoh utama, Bekti dalam naskah drama Tuhan, Tolong Bunuh Emak karya Yessy Natalie Christien, yang termuat dalam antologi naskah drama Pindah. Naskah drama Tuhan, Tolong Bunuh Emak ini berhasil memenangkan penghargaan sebagai naskah drama terbaik dalam sayembara penulisan naskah drama yang diadakan oleh Dewan Kesenian Jakarta pada tahun 2021. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori psikoanalisis Jacques Lacan tentang hasrat manusia yang bergerak, didorong oleh keinginan untuk memenuhi objek a yang muncul dikarenakan phallus (objek kekurangan) sebagai pemenuhan diri manusia. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik baca dan catat. Data akan ditemukan dengan cara membaca objek penelitian secara berulang dan kemudian data yang telah didapat akan dicatat untuk dilakukan analisis terhadap data. Didapatkan data berupa hasrat tokoh utama, Bekti, sebagai kepala keluarga, seorang suami, seorang ayah, dan seorang anak laki-laki. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah Hasrat tokoh utama, Bekti untuk menyejahterakan keluarganya, dimana kesejahteraan keluarga adalah representasi objek a sebagai objek kekurangan (phallus) yang akan terus dicari sebagai pemenuhan bagi Bekti, dikarenakan ia belum bisa membayar hutang keluarganya, membayar biaya kuliah anaknya, dan membayar biaya pengobatan orang tuanya. Abstract This study aims to describe the desires of the main character, Bekti, in the drama script Tuhan, Tolong Bunuh Emak by Yessy Natalie Christien, which is included in the drama script anthology Pindah. The script Tuhan, Tolong Bunuh Emak won the award for Best Drama Script in the playwriting competition held by the Jakarta Arts Council in 2021. This research uses Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalytic theory of human desire, which posits that desire is driven by the pursuit of the objet petit a, arising from the phallus (the object of lack) as a form of human self-fulfillment. This is a qualitative study using a descriptive research method. The data collection technique employed is reading and note-taking. Data were obtained through repeated readings of the script, with relevant information recorded and analyzed. The findings reveal the desires of the main character, Bekti, in his roles as head of the family, a husband, a father, and a son. The study concludes that Bekti’s desire to bring prosperity to his family represents the objet petit a as the object of lack (phallus), which he continually seeks to fulfill. This is driven by his inability to repay the family’s debts, pay for his child’s tuition, and cover his parents’ medical expenses.

Abstract

The purpose of this work is to describe how active and passive sentence constructions are built in the Karo language, with a focus on syntactic construction patterns. This research is important because the morphological and syntactic systems of the Karo language differ from other regional languages in Indonesia, requiring in-depth research to add new data to regional language linguistic research and regional language preservation. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected from three native speakers of Karo aged between 20 and 50 years old who live in Berastagi subdistrict, North Sumatra, to provide research data in the form of active Karo sentences and passive Karo sentences. The data collection techniques used in this study were interviews, recordings, and transcriptions using the ELAN application. The research analysis model used was the Miles & Huberman (1984) model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion formulation. Source triangulation was used for data validity. The findings of the analysis on the construction of active sentences in the Karo language show that the agent is the subject, the verb is the predicate, and the patient is the object. Active sentences have verbs with the prefixes n- and m-. There are syntactic patterns such as SVO (Subject-Verb-Object), VSO (Verb-Subject-Object), and VOS (Verb-Object-Subject) in the formation of active sentences in the Karo language. Then, passive sentence constructions have the patient as the subject, the verb as the predicate, and the prepositional phrase as an optional object. In passive sentences in the Karo language, there are SVPP (Subject-Verb-Prepositional Phrase) and VPPS (Verb-Prepositional Phrase-Subject) patterns. Passive sentences are distinguished by the prefix i- and the infix i-...-i. The results of this study will contribute to the preservation of the Karo language as part of Indonesia's linguistic and cultural diversity and enhance research on regional linguistics.
