Abstract

Dependence on chemical fertilizers has caused a decline in soil quality, groundwater contamination, and rising agricultural production costs due to unstable fertilizer prices. In recent years, frequent fertilizer crises have revealed the fragility of reliance on inorganic fertilizers within the national agricultural system. Hence, a transformation toward environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture is urgently required. This study employed a scoring technique to analyze field observation data, which were narrated based on the written methodology. Respondents’ answers were categorized and classified according to their assumptions or opinions, with scores determined using a Likert scale. The Likert scale measures attitudes, opinions, and perceptions of individuals or groups regarding specific social phenomena. The results showed that key driving factors—such as affordable fertilizer prices, support from agricultural extension workers, and social encouragement from the community—achieved scores above 82%. This finding indicates that external conditions are quite favorable for promoting the use of organic fertilizers. However, major challenges remain, including the limited availability of organic fertilizers in the field and farmers’ long-standing dependency on chemical fertilizers. To address these challenges, it is essential to enhance the market availability of liquid organic fertilizers (POC) through collaboration between producers and farmer groups. Continuous technical assistance should be provided, including demonstration plots that display tangible improvements in rice yields using POC. Furthermore, government support in the form of targeted subsidies or special incentives for farmers transitioning to organic fertilizers is vital, while strengthening the role of farmer groups and agricultural extension workers as catalysts for the adoption of environmentally friendly innovations.

Abstract

Agricultural practices that take local wisdom into account can provide significant benefits to the environment and society. Local wisdom plays a crucial role in sustainable agricultural practices. Time-tested knowledge and practices can provide solutions to the challenges faced by modern farmers, particularly in the context of climate change and environmental degradation. However, despite extensive research, a significant research gap remains, specifically how local wisdom in the Tumbang Datu Valley can be integrated into broader agricultural policies. The research used was descriptive with a qualitative approach. Qualitative research aims to understand social phenomena from the perspective of participants. Initial informants were selected purposively, selecting informants deemed to have extensive knowledge of the conditions in the village under study, using a snowball sampling technique. The first step was to identify key informants, who in this study consisted of 16 traditional leaders and farmers familiar with the culture in Lembang Tumbang Datu and directly involved in the practice. The local wisdom in the rice farming process, from pre-planting, planting, maintenance, to harvesting and post-harvest, is implemented based on ancestral heritage in line with environmental conservation. Farmers demonstrate their concern for nature through natural soil cultivation, selection of superior seeds, use of organic fertilizers, and implementation of efficient planting and irrigation systems. The application of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and post-harvest technology demonstrates the farmers' ability to adapt to innovation while maintaining local wisdom. Overall, the rice farming system in Lembang Tumbang Datu demonstrates the synergy between tradition and modernity, supporting food security while preserving cultural heritage.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of coffee brewing device branding on the sensory perception of coffee flavor at TEFA Javanica, Politeknik Negeri Banyuwangi. Focusing on three V60 dripper brands—Hario (Japanese brand), Indotara (local generic brand), and One Two Cup (local brand with English naming)—the research employs an experimental quantitative approach combining blind and branded taste tests. The blind test eliminates brand influence, allowing assessment of the inherent coffee taste, while the branded test examines how brand expectations affect flavor experience and consumer perception. Sensory evaluation follows the Specialty Coffee Association's standardized cupping protocol, assessing aroma, taste, aftertaste, balance, and overall impression. Data from 45 purposively selected experienced coffee tasters were analyzed using the McNemar test to statistically compare preferences between blind and branded conditions. Results show significant brand effects on consumer perception for two of the three brands tested, highlighting branding’s role in shaping sensory experience. These findings offer valuable insights for coffee producers and marketers to optimize brewing device selection and branding strategies, enhancing customer satisfaction and competitive positioning. Academically, the study enriches literature on sensory branding in coffee, emphasizing the importance of equipment branding in specialty coffee markets. This research also lays groundwork for future studies exploring marketing and consumer psychology aspects within the specialty coffee industry.

Abstract

The growing demand for organic fertilizers as an alternative to chemical fertilizers is in line with increasing public awareness of environmentally friendly agriculture. Meanwhile, livestock waste, particularly rabbit urine, remains underutilized and is often discarded, despite its high nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content and potential as a raw material for liquid organic fertilizer (LOF). This study aims to design and develop a simple technological innovation for processing rabbit urine into economically valuable LOF, offering new business opportunities for local communities. Another objective is to advance bioactivator-based processing technology to produce an effective, marketable, and eco-friendly organic fertilizer that enhances plant growth. The research employed an applied research method with an experimental approach, including collection and processing of rabbit urine, simple production of LOF, effectiveness testing on horticultural crops with local farmers, and analysis of business feasibility and local marketing strategies. The study resulted in a simple bioactivator-based technology for converting rabbit urine into LOF through a fermentation process of more than 14 days, producing fertilizer rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. The LOF improved horticultural crop growth by 25–30% compared to control plants. The group business model provides livestock farmers with new business opportunities, achieving profit margins between 40% and 50%. This research produced a replicable technology guide and usable LOF product, contributing to waste reduction and supporting sustainable agriculture through community-based entrepreneurship.

Abstract

The agricultural sector plays a vital role in supporting Indonesia's economy, particularly in food provision and increasing rural household income. One of the promising horticultural commodities is California papaya (Carica papaya L.), known for its high productivity and short harvesting cycle. This crop is favored by farmers due to its stable market demand. However, to ensure the financial feasibility of this farming enterprise, a comprehensive financial analysis is necessary. This study aims to analyze the revenue, production costs, income, and financial feasibility of California papaya farming in Hinai Subdistrict, Langkat Regency. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method through a survey approach, with a purposive sample of 34 farmers. Data were analyzed using a farm income analysis approach, including the calculation of fixed costs, variable costs, total revenue, net income, and the Revenue/Cost (R/C) ratio. The results showed that the total production cost was IDR 590.734.000, while the total revenue reached IDR 1.970.685.000. The net income obtained by farmers amounted to IDR 1.379.951.000, with an average income of IDR 40.586.794 per farmer. The R/C ratio was calculated at 3.33, meaning that every IDR 1 spent on production costs generated IDR 3.33  in revenue. California papaya farming in Hinai Subdistrict is financially feasible, provides significant profit, and has strong potential to be further developed as a primary income source for horticultural farmers.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) derived from kirinyuh (Chromolaena odorata) leaves on the growth and yield of potted corn plants. The research was carried out at the Agricultural Development Center (BPP) of Malimbong Balepe’, Tana Toraja District, South Sulawesi Province, located at an altitude of 815 meters above sea level. The experiment was designed using a simple randomized block design (RBD) consisting of four treatments: K0 = control (without treatment), K1 = 20% concentration of kirinyuh leaf POC (200 ml POC + 800 ml water), K2 = 40% concentration of kirinyuh leaf POC (400 ml POC + 600 ml water), and K3 = 60% concentration of kirinyuh leaf POC (600 ml POC + 400 ml water). Parameters observed included plant height at 5 and 7 weeks after planting (WAP), number of leaves at 7 WAP, ear length, ear diameter, and ear weight per plant. The results showed that kirinyuh leaf POC significantly affected the growth and productivity of potted corn plants. Application of POC at 60% concentration (K3) produced the best results, indicated by increased plant height, greater number of leaves, longer ear length, larger ear diameter, and higher ear weight compared to other treatments and control. This finding suggests that kirinyuh leaves, which are often considered as agricultural weeds, have potential as an alternative source of organic fertilizer that is environmentally friendly, low-cost, and effective in improving crop growth and yield. In conclusion, kirinyuh leaf-based liquid organic fertilizer, particularly at a concentration of 60%, demonstrated the highest effectiveness in supporting corn growth and productivity. These results provide practical insights for farmers to utilize locally available organic materials as an alternative to chemical fertilizers in sustainable agricultural practices.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the structure and composition of vegetation on the banks of the Ira River (Wae Ira), Negeri Kamarian, Kairatu District, West Seram Regency. Riparian vegetation plays an important role in maintaining the stability of river ecosystems, both in terms of ecological, hydrological, and biodiversity aspects. The method used in this study is a combination of the continuous strip sampling method and the line plot sampling method, which are applied to four levels of vegetation growth, namely seedlings, saplings, poles, and trees. The results of the analysis show that the vegetation structure in the study area is divided into four strata, with varying species compositions in each stratum. The dominant species found include Pulai (Alstonia scholaris), Pulaka (Cyrtosperma merkusii), Buah rao (Dracontomelon mangiferum), and Salam (Syzygium polyanthum). The highest Importance Value Index (INP) at the tree level is owned by Pulai (Alstonia scholaris) at 54,2. The highest vegetation density is at the seedling level with 52000 individuals/ha and the lowest at the tree level with 341 individuals/ha. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') ranges from 1.87–2.65, indicating a moderate level of diversity. The results of this study indicate that the Ira River border area still has a relatively good vegetation structure and composition, although there are ecological pressures that cause dominance by certain species

Abstract

This research presents a phenomenological inquiry aimed at deconstructing the conventional marketing paradigm and offering a deeper understanding of alternative practices. It specifically explores the anti-marketing strategy grounded in Islamic values as implemented at Warung Jendil Mbah Yamah, a traditional micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) located in Blitar, East Java. Employing a qualitative approach combined with a phenomenological method, the study gathered rich and nuanced data through several techniques, including in-depth interviews with nine carefully selected informants, participatory observation over an extended period, and systematic documentation studies. The thematic data analysis conducted by the researchers revealed that the warung’s anti-marketing strategy rests firmly on three interconnected pillars: (1) a strong reliance on organic word-of-mouth  communication rather than paid advertising, (2) the deliberate creation of an authentic, personal, and inclusive customer experience that builds emotional bonds with visitors, and (3) the consistent integration of Islamic ethical values into every aspect of business operations. These findings provide a meaningful theoretical contribution by synthesizing the concepts of anti-marketing and Islamic entrepreneurship into a new model of “authentic marketing,” where ethical and spiritual values serve as the strategic foundation for long-term sustainability. In practical terms, the results offer guidance for the broader development of MSMEs in Indonesia, showing that authenticity, ethical commitment, and adherence to core values can represent a stronger and more sustainable competitive advantage than conventional promotional strategies.
