Abstract

The community service program in Kemiri Village aims to empower farmers through the use of local potential, especially moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera), as raw materials for liquid organic fertilizer (POC). This activity was carried out with a participatory and educational approach that directly involved farmer groups in technical training on making POC through simple fermentation methods using natural ingredients such as moringa leaves, rice washing water, organic waste, and local decomposers. Through this activity, farmers are taught stages ranging from the collection of ingredients, the process of shredding moringa leaves, mixing with complementary ingredients, to the correct fermentation techniques to produce high-quality fertilizer. The training is carried out by field demonstration methods, discussions, and hands-on practice, so that farmers not only gain theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills that can be applied independently. The results show a significant increase in farmers' knowledge, skills, and awareness of the importance of liquid organic fertilizer as an environmentally friendly alternative. In addition, the public's enthusiasm is getting higher after seeing real evidence that the use of POC moringa leaves is able to increase plant growth, crop quality, and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers which are increasingly expensive and have the potential to damage the soil. This program not only provides economic benefits through the cost efficiency of agricultural production, but also has a positive impact on environmental conservation. This activity is expected to be a model of community empowerment based on local potential that can be replicated in other regions with similar conditions. The success of the program shows that simple innovations that utilize local resources, if managed well, can support sustainable agriculture and food security for rural communities.

Abstract

Indonesia has vast mangrove forest potential with high biodiversity and great ecological benefits. One of the developing management approaches is community-based mangrove ecotourism which not only emphasizes economic aspects but also environmental conservation. This study aims to analyze the involvement of local communities in mangrove ecotourism management and its impact on mangrove forest conservation in Indonesia. The method used is literature analysis with a descriptive-qualitative approach to ten studies published in the last 5-10 years. The results of the analysis show that active community participation in planning, implementing and evaluating the management of ecotourism areas contributes significantly to the sustainability of mangrove ecosystems. Despite the challenges of unequal capacity and strategic roles, this study confirms that community involvement is an important pillar in the success of community-based conservation. Thus, a collaborative approach between the community, government, and other stakeholders needs to be continuously strengthened to support ecotourism as well as mangrove conservation.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of compost fertilizer and potassium chloride (KCl) fertilizer, as well as their interaction, on the growth and yield of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt). The experiment was conducted from May to August 2022 in Kuning Village, Bambel District, Southeast Aceh, using a factorial randomized block design with two factors: compost dosage (480 g/plot, 960 g/plot, 1,440 g/plot) and KCl dosage (20 g/plot, 40 g/plot, 60 g/plot), each replicated three times for a total of 27 plots. Observed parameters included plant height, stem diameter, leaf area, days to flowering, ear length, and ear weight per plot. Results indicated that compost and KCl fertilizers significantly affected plant height, leaf area, days to flowering, and ear length, but had no significant effect on stem diameter or ear weight per plot. The interaction between compost and KCl produced the highest plant height (165.89 cm) and ear length (21.69 cm) in treatment K3C1. The findings suggest that optimal fertilization using compost and KCl can enhance sweet corn productivity by improving vegetative growth and reproductive development. Nevertheless, the absence of significant effects on stem diameter and ear weight per plot indicates that nutrient balance, especially nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), remains crucial for maximizing yields. Therefore, integrating compost and KCl with complementary sources of macronutrients could promote more consistent outcomes. This research also highlights the role of organic matter in enriching soil fertility, maintaining soil structure, and supporting sustainable agriculture. The combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers demonstrates the potential for eco-friendly crop management practices that balance productivity with environmental responsibility. These results provide valuable insights for farmers, agronomists, and policymakers in developing efficient fertilization strategies for sweet corn cultivation within local conditions.

Abstract

The use of technology in rice farming can significantly increase production, reduce management time, expand cultivated land, and improve product quality to meet consumer standards. When rice production meets market demand, the selling price becomes higher, thus increasing farmers’ income and welfare. The presence of farmer groups plays a vital role as a learning forum for gaining knowledge, implementing agricultural technology, and facilitating access to agricultural tools and machinery. This enables farmers to apply technology effectively, improve work efficiency, and address challenges in rice farming. Considering the great potential of this region for rice cultivation, supported by growing local food demand and the national food security program, technology implementation becomes essential. This study employed the Likert scale method to measure farmers’ attitudes, opinions, and perceptions, with samples collected through purposive sampling. The findings show that the role of farmer groups in implementing rice farming technology in the Misa Kada (Advanced) group reached 74.91%, while the Ta’pan Kila’ (Beginner) group reached 66.07%. This indicates that farmer groups have contributed effectively, though some activities remain suboptimal. Strengthening learning class programs is the most strategic effort to enhance farmers’ understanding of agricultural technology, improve productivity, and maintain Tana Toraja’s cultural values.

Abstract

The Sustainable Food Yard Program (P2L) has great potential in improving food security and women's empowerment, but there are still gaps related to the effectiveness of the program in areas with certain geographical and social characteristics such as Kalolok Village, therefore this study is expected to provide theoretical contributions in the development of community-based empowerment models as well as practical contributions for village governments and stakeholders in designing sustainable empowerment strategies. This study uses the SWOT Analysis Method (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats Analysis). SWOT is used to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the empowerment strategy applied to the Women Farmers Group (KWT) in the Context of the P2L Program in Batupapan Village. The results of the study using SWOT analysis The results of the IFAS analysis (2.67) and EFAS (2.57) indicate that the position of KWT Kalolok is in Quadrant I (Aggressive Strategy). This means that the group possesses significant internal strength and is supported by significant external opportunities. Therefore, development strategies need to focus on cultivation expansion, commodity diversification, technological innovation, marketing strengthening, and institutional development and internal capital. Therefore, developing cultivation innovations such as vertical farming/hydroponics is necessary to maximize limited land and providing intensive mentoring to assist in marketing produce through villages, village-owned enterprises (BUMDes), and local MSME networks.
