Abstract

Community Reading Centers (CRC) hold a critical role in educating the public and expanding access to knowledge, functioning as literacy centers, agents of social change, character builders, and skill developers. This study aims to determine the role of Rumah Baca Soka as a community reading center in building a culture of literacy within its community. Utilizing a qualitative method with a case study design, data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings reveal that Rumah Baca Soka, as a community reading center, plays a strategic role in building community literacy through various functions: serving as an information center, broadening horizons and knowledge, providing educational entertainment, facilitating character development, and offering skills training. Strong community enthusiasm, volunteer involvement, an adequate book collection, and external support support the success of this CRC. Scientifically, this research contributes to enriching the literature on CRCs as community-based empowerment spaces that serve dual functions: as literacy centers, social interaction spaces, and means of developing life skills.

Abstract

This article examines the role of pentahelix collaboration in promoting human resource development (HRD) for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) using a bibliometric approach. Using 180 Scopus-indexed publications from 2016 to 2025, data were processed with VOSviewer to examine publication trends, co-authorship networks, keyword clustering, and thematic development. The findings indicate that Indonesia contributes the largest number of studies, reflecting its central role in the pentahelix-based development discourse. Five thematic clusters were identified, covering institutional collaboration, digitalization, education, cultural values, village empowerment, and collaborative governance. The results show a gradual shift from conceptual discussions to practical applications, particularly in digital transformation and inclusive governance for MSMEs. Emerging themes such as sustainability, women’s empowerment, and ecosystem-based innovation are gaining significant attention. This study contributes theoretically by refining the conceptual framework of pentahelix collaboration in relation to HRD, while practically providing direction for policymakers, educators, and practitioners to strengthen MSME competitiveness through inclusive and adaptive strategies. By mapping the research landscape, this study highlights the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration as a foundation for building resilient and innovation-driven MSME ecosystems.

Abstract

Biotechnology-based food processing holds strong potential to empower rural and peri-urban communities by enhancing local knowledge and skills. However, limited public understanding of its principles remains a significant challenge. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a community empowerment program focused on homemade cheese-making using biotechnology concepts. The activity was conducted through a hands-on workshop involving 20 participants aged 11–50 years, incorporating pretests and posttests to assess knowledge improvement, observation sheets to monitor engagement, and participant questionnaires. The results showed a high level of effectiveness, with an average normalized gain score of 0.78, indicating substantial improvement in understanding basic biotechnology. Feedback indicated that participants enjoyed the activity, gained confidence in applying the methods at home, and expressed interest in further food science workshops. The empowerment program facilitated not only science literacy but also community innovation, as seen in the use of household materials and local ingredients such as milk from nearby dairy farms. This study demonstrates that informal, context-based science education can successfully bridge knowledge gaps while fostering active participation. It suggests that similar initiatives focused on fermentation-based products may serve as a sustainable approach to community-based science learning and rural development.

Abstract

This community services initiative aims to enhance anti-corruption literacy and strengthen the role of youth organizations in overseeing governance in Serang City. The program is motivated by the high incidence of corruption cases in the public sector and the low level of civic participation, particularly among young people, in monitoring government performance. The implementation method comprises three stages: preparation, execution, and evaluation. The outreach materials cover fundamental concepts of corruption, the role of youth in participatory oversight, regulations on public information transparency, and the utilization of digital reporting platforms such as Jaga.id. The activity involved 20 participants from UNTIRTA and UIN SMH Banten, all of whom are members of KAMMI Banten. Evaluation results indicate a significant improvement in participants' understanding, with the proportion of participants categorized as having "excellent" knowledge increasing from 10% in the pre-test to 50% in the post-test. These findings demonstrate that a literacy-based outreach approach, combined with interactive discussions, is an effective way to foster anti-corruption awareness. This initiative is expected to serve as a replicable model for youth empowerment, promoting participatory oversight and the establishment of transparent and accountable governance. Beyond its local significance, the novelty of this article lies in demonstrating how community-based anti-corruption literacy programs, anchored in youth participation and digital engagement, can contribute to the global discourse on civic education and integrity systems. By providing empirical evidence from Indonesia, this study enriches international scholarship on anti-corruption strategies, particularly in illustrating how grassroots initiatives can complement formal governance reforms.

Abstract

This study focuses on enhancing agricultural productivity through sustainable resource management, community empowerment, and local innovation in the form of eco enzyme production by the Sumber Rezeki Women Farmers' Group (KWT). Conventional farming practices and a lack of innovation often hinder productivity. This research aims to increase productivity and community self-reliance by transforming organic waste into eco enzyme, aligning with global trends in social group strengthening and sustainable agriculture innovation. Using the Community-Based Research (CBR) approach, the study followed four stages: foundation, planning, data collection and analysis, and action. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, documentation, and focus group discussions, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results revealed three key findings: 1) mentoring in eco enzyme production improved members' skills and knowledge; 2) the program's success was supported by sustainability commitment, local wisdom-based solidarity, and innovation-driven self-reliance; 3) the cooperation of these elements forms the concept of Ecocooperation Transformation, which enhances productivity while strengthening community resilience. This study contributes to the literature on local innovation and community empowerment in sustainable agriculture and offers a replicable model of Ecocooperation Transformation for other communities. In conclusion, collaboration, local innovation, and community strengthening are essential to achieving sustainable agricultural productivity and self-sufficiency.

Abstract

Stunting is a growth failure condition caused by inadequate nutrition during a child's developmental years. In Indonesia, stunted toddlers are prevalent, particularly in Lampung Province, where rates exceed the WHO standard of 20%. In 2019, the Tanggamus region had a stunting prevalence of 27.39%. This study examines the impact of the KESURGA demonstration plot intervention, which aims to promote balanced nutrition in Kagungan Village, Kota Agung Timur District, using a qualitative phenomenological approach. Data were gathered through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis. The findings indicate that the KESURGA intervention, which included training, garden development, and socialization activities, resulted in a reduction in stunting rates from 19.17% in 2020 to 14.18% in 2021. Key supporting factors included effective communication, availability of resources, aligned policies, and positive attitudes. Challenges such as economic conditions of underprivileged families, the Covid-19 pandemic, and a lack of information hindered progress. These results highlight that multi-stakeholder, nutrition-focused interventions can significantly reduce stunting. This study provides qualitative evidence of locally adaptable strategies that contribute to public health nutrition interventions in rural Indonesia, offering insights for global health initiatives. It demonstrates how community-driven, resource-sensitive, and policy-aligned interventions can address malnutrition challenges in low- and middle-income countries.

Abstract

Philanthropic behavior among students is a salient indicator of civic awareness. This study analyzes how driving factors and inhibiting factors shape students' participation in campus-based social activities. Using a quantitative survey of 200 students from three Indonesian universities, we administered a 20-item Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed the data using validity and reliability tests, Pearson correlations, and multiple linear regression (? = .05). All items demonstrated validity and reliability. Regression results indicate that driving factors have a positive and significant impact on philanthropic participation (? = 0.585, p .001), whereas inhibiting factors, such as time constraints and academic workload, do not significantly predict participation (? = –0.051, p = .404). The model explains 39% of the variance in participation (R² = 0.390), indicating that prosocial values, empathy, peer support, and campus community participation are more significant predictors than contextual constraints. These findings reinforce the Theory of Planned Behavior and the literature on prosocial development, underscoring the importance of intention and social norms in shaping behavior. We discuss implications for program design, including integrating community service into formal recognition systems, strengthening student-led initiatives, and ensuring sustained organizational regeneration to cultivate durable civic participation on campus.

Abstract

Various internal and external factors shape students' learning motivation. This research aims to examine how gender, length of study, and the morale of lecturers and administrative staff influence students' motivation to learn. An explanatory research design was employed, with the study population comprising students from Universitas Negeri Malang and Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. A total of 572 students were selected through a cluster random sampling method. Data were gathered using questionnaires and documentation, then analyzed through descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, and structural equation modeling. The findings reveal that students' learning motivation differs significantly according to gender and study period. Lecturers' morale has a notable impact, while staff morale does not show a significant effect. These results suggest that gender, study duration, and lecturers' morale contribute meaningfully to students' learning motivation. The novelty of this study lies in identifying these three aspects as key determinants of motivation, an area that has not been extensively investigated in previous research. This insight offers valuable implications for improving the quality of teaching and learning in higher education.

Abstract

Teaching Javanese script at the senior high school level still faces challenges from student limitations and pedagogical aspects. This study aims to explore the difficulties experienced by senior high school students in learning Javanese script and to identify the factors causing these difficulties from the perspectives of both students and teachers. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through a questionnaire administered to 2.437 students and in-depth interviews with 14 Javanese language teachers. The data were analyzed through data condensation, data presentation, and drawing and verifying conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the main difficulties experienced by students include reading Javanese script sentences (72.9%), understanding Javanese vocabulary (71.3%), memorizing script forms (64.1%), identifying word divisions (59%), and distinguishing specific phonemes. The factors contributing to these difficulties include low literacy habits, minimal technology use, teaching methods unsuitable for the students' characteristics, limited learning resources, and inadequate learning feedback. This study offers novelty by formulating a contextual, technology-based learning strategy for the Javanese script that aligns with students’ characteristics. Its contribution lies in enriching the field of local language education and providing new directions for the development of more adaptive educational policies.
