Abstract

The “Kencan Sae” program is an innovative initiative by the Blitar City Government to assist unmarried individuals through premarital socialization and matchmaking. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection through in-depth interviews and field observations. The results of the study show that the program has been routinely implemented since April 2025 in various public facilities with material on mental and social readiness and the legal and religious values of marriage. The program is in line with the Marriage Law (No. 1/1974 jo. No. 16/2019) and Islamic teachings that emphasize physical, mental, and economic readiness before marriage. Participants generally appreciated the effectiveness of this program, although challenges such as participant awareness and resource limitations emerged as obstacles. Based on the findings, it was concluded that Kencan Sae can improve the legal and religious readiness of prospective brides and grooms and has the potential to reduce the rate of early marriage. Recommendations were made to expand outreach and strengthen cross-sector support to maximize the program's impact.

Abstract

This study examines public perceptions of the role of business law regulations in strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem and MSMEs in Blitar City. The background to this study is the importance of MSMEs in the national economy and the state's efforts to create a conducive business climate through legal policies (e.g., Law No. 20/2008 on MSMEs, Law No. 11/2020 on Job Creation). The approach used is qualitative phenomenological, with data collection through in-depth interviews (15 informants: MSME actors, practitioners, local officials, academics), participatory observation in the field, and a study of relevant policy documentation. The findings show that the community views business law regulations as an important instrument for providing certainty and protection (e.g., business legality), but in practice, there are bureaucratic obstacles and a lack of socialization that hinder their effectiveness. The novelty of this research lies in the local context of Blitar City and the use of a phenomenological approach to explore the subjective meanings of the actors. Based on the findings, it is concluded that although regulations have the potential to support the empowerment of MSMEs and the regional economy (in line with Welfare State theory), implementation in the field needs to be strengthened by simplifying procedures, providing legal assistance, and strengthening law enforcement so that it does not become an obstacle for business actors.

Abstract

This study explores the understanding and perceptions of the community of Rejotangan Village, Tulungagung Regency, regarding the economic impacts promised by the establishment of the Merah Putih Cooperative. The method used was descriptive qualitative with a participatory approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, focus group discussions, and field documentation. The study findings indicate that most residents were familiar with the Merah Putih Cooperative through village announcements and special meetings, but detailed understanding varied. The community was generally optimistic that the cooperative could improve access to capital, income, and village food security, despite concerns about transparency and regulatory constraints. Factors determining community attitudes included trust in management, participation in deliberation processes, and local values of mutual cooperation. These findings support previous literature that cooperatives can improve member welfare and strengthen the local economy, provided they are supported by cooperative literacy, institutional mentoring, and contextual policies. This article recommends strengthening cooperative socialization, manager training, and management transparency to ensure the Merah Putih Cooperative becomes an effective instrument for village economic empowerment

Abstract

Early literacy development, particularly letter recognition, plays a crucial role in forming reading readiness in early childhood. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Banjar Local Board Media in improving letter-recognition skills among children aged 5–6 years. This experimental research employed a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 17 kindergarten children at TK Perjuangan Bunda, Tabalong, Indonesia. Data were collected using a 27-item letter-recognition test measuring the ability to identify letter shapes, associate letters with sounds, and the form of simple written letters. The treatment consisted of four learning sessions integrating Banjar cultural elements through picture–letter associations, phonological activities, and interactive board manipulation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-test to determine significant differences between pretest and posttest scores. Findings revealed a substantial increase in children's letter-recognition ability, demonstrated by a rise in average scores from 51 (pretest) to 77 (posttest), indicating a 43.3% improvement after the intervention. These results suggest that integrating cultural-based media provides meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences that effectively enhance early literacy competencies. The study contributes to the literature on culturally responsive teaching in early childhood education and emphasizes the relevance of local wisdom in strengthening learning engagement and outcomes. Future research is advised to involve larger samples and employ comparative experimental designs to broaden generalization and strengthen evidence of effectiveness.

Abstract

The research analyzed how Donald Trump and Mike Pence applied van Dijk’s Ideological Square to portray their group positively and CRT negatively in political speeches. This research demonstrates how language can influence public opinion and obscure key facts about racism and justice. The study employed descriptive qualitative methods, utilizing van Dijk’s Ideological Square, to analyze speeches by Donald Trump and Mike Pence regarding Critical Race Theory (CRT). The data were obtained from the official transcript, and the analysis involved categorizing words and sentences to reveal ideological strategy and public influence. They praised their group, criticized the opponents, concealed America’s faults, and overlooked the positive aspects of CRT. Through this strategy, they built a positive image of their group while forming a negative public opinion of CRT. Language was used to influence emotion, trust, and public understanding. This research contributed to an understanding of political language and ideology in speech.

Abstract

Manual detection of pneumonia from X-ray images still faces challenges due to the long processing time, high cost, and strong dependence on radiologist expertise. This dependence increases the risk of delayed diagnosis and interpretation errors, potentially worsening patient conditions. To address these issues, this study proposes optimizing pneumonia detection using deep learning through the application of Binary Statistical Image Feature (BSIF) feature extraction. BSIF highlights important texture patterns in X-ray images to enhance the model’s ability to recognize pneumonia affected lung areas. The dataset consists of 2,239 chest X-ray images divided into two categories: normal lungs and pneumonia. The research stages include image preprocessing, BSIF feature extraction, model training using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Vision Transformer (ViT) architectures, and performance evaluation based on precision, recall, f1-score, specificity, and ROC AUC. The results show that the CNN+BSIF combination achieved the best performance with 99.69% training accuracy and 79.17% validation accuracy, precision 87%, recall 72%, f1-score 74%, specificity 45.30%, and ROC AUC 94.08%. Meanwhile, ViT+BSIF reached 99.35% accuracy, CNN without BSIF 98.24%, and ViT without BSIF 90.16%. Therefore, CNN+BSIF proved to be the most optimal method for fast and accurate pneumonia detection.

Abstract

The profession of being a female sex worker carries various forms of risks that encompass physical, sexual, and social aspects. Engaging in this work over a long period is a process filled with courage, self-reflection, and complex dynamics of changing life perspectives. Nevertheless, many of them still have hopes and determination to improve their lives for the better. This study focuses on efforts to understand the relationship between problem-focused coping and social support with life meaningfulness among female sex workers. The research approach used is quantitative with a multiple correlation analysis model. From a total population of 232 people, 44 respondents were selected as the research sample. The research instruments included measures of problem-focused coping, social support, and life meaningfulness, which were analyzed using multiple correlation techniques. The results showed that the first hypothesis could not be tested because the data did not meet the normality assumption. Meanwhile, the second hypothesis indicated a negative relationship between problem-focused coping and life meaningfulness, whereas the third hypothesis found a positive relationship between social support and life meaningfulness. These findings suggest that the greater the social support received, the higher the level of life meaningfulness experienced by female sex workers.

Abstract

Unbalanced dietary habits are a major factor contributing to health issues such as obesity, malnutrition, and metabolic disorders. These problems often arise from the lack of awareness of daily energy needs, leading to uncontrolled calorie intake. This study aims to develop a calorie monitoring application that assists users in managing their nutritional balance accurately and efficiently. The system implements the Mifflin–St Jeor algorithm to calculate daily energy requirements based on user data, including age, gender, height, and weight. Body Mass Index (BMI) and Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) are integrated to provide adaptive calorie recommendations according to each user’s activity level. The application was developed using Flutter for the mobile interface and Flask as the backend framework. Validation testing showed a deviation of less than 1% between manual and system calculations, confirming the algorithm’s accuracy and reliability. The results demonstrate that the developed system can deliver personalized and precise calorie recommendations while supporting continuous monitoring of food intake. This approach enables users to maintain energy balance and achieve specific health goals such as weight loss, maintenance, or gain.
