Abstract

This research seeks to examine the challenges students encounter in speaking English and the strategies they employ to cope with them. The study applied a qualitative design, utilizing semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis with 15 students in their fourth semester of the English Language Education Study Program at Gorontalo State University. Results showed that learners experienced three major categories of speaking challenges: linguistic barriers (including limited vocabulary, mispronunciation, grammatical mistakes, and weak comprehension), psychological barriers (such as anxiety, lack of self-confidence, shyness, and low motivation), and social-environmental barriers (like insufficient peer support and limited exposure to English). To overcome these obstacles, students made use of several strategies, such as practicing independently, watching English-based content, engaging in peer conversations, boosting their learning motivation, and applying affective as well as social techniques. The outcomes of this study offer important insights for teachers and curriculum designers in fostering a classroom environment that enhances students’ English-speaking proficiency.

Abstract

This study developed writing materials and animated videos to improve students’ essay writing at the State Polytechnic of Malang. Following Richey and Klein’s five-phase Design and Development Research model, analysis through questionnaires and interviews identified grammar difficulties and low motivation as major writing challenges. To address these, the researcher created a module with reading passages, grammar sections, and QR-linked animated videos. The final product was field-tested with students, yielding positive feedback (some noted video pacing issues). The final product scored 72.43% in the evaluation, confirming its effectiveness in supporting essay writing. Students appreciated the engaging visuals, clear explanations, and bilingual format. Integrating animation into traditional writing materials enhanced student understanding and motivation. This module and video series serve as a practical, innovative instructional tool. Future work should improve video pacing and add interactive learning features.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a curriculum for the Al Jannah Early Childhood Education (PAUD) unit that can optimize the integration of local cultural wisdom. This study uses the Four-D model where this model can be seen as a model for instructional development, namely: 1) Define; 2) Design; 3) Development; 4) Dissemination. The feasibility of the local cultural wisdom-based curriculum development product at the Al Jannah PAUD unit has been tested through expert validation and teacher perception analysis. The validation results from material experts show an average feasibility percentage of 77.22% (category "Good"), with the curriculum objectives component getting the highest score (86%) and the content/material component getting the lowest score (70%). Meanwhile, validation from cultural experts shows a higher feasibility percentage of 85.88% (category "Very Good"), with the Local Language aspect getting a perfect score (100%), followed by Regional Stories and Legends and Celebrations of Local Holidays (93.33%). The results of the teacher perception and readiness questionnaire also showed a very positive response (86% - "Very Good" category), although there is a gap between positive perceptions and implementation readiness, especially in terms of the availability of resources and teaching materials (20% - "Poor" category). Overall, the developed curriculum has met the eligibility standards for implementation in the Al Jannah PAUD unit with several improvements in the content/materials and implementation support aspects.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the background of the establishment and development of Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTS) Al-Khairat Pinotu in Piloto Village, Toribulu District, Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi. This research uses a qualitative approach with historical (historical) methods, which includes four main stages, namely heuristic (collection of sources), source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews with local education figures, direct observations, and related archival documentation. The results of the study show that MTS Al-Khairat Pinotu was established in 1998 on the initiative of local community leaders in response to the need for Islamic-based junior high school education that is easily accessible to the people of Pinotu Village and its surroundings. Originally named MTS Nurul Muttahidah Pinotu, this institution then switched its auspices to the Al-Khairat Foundation in 2005 in order to be able to access official school operational assistance. The role of community leaders is very large in establishing and managing this madrasah, as well as in building the character of students through religious education and local values. This research confirms that the presence of MTS Al-Khairat Pinotu makes a significant contribution to improving the quality of Islamic education, expanding access to education in remote areas, and forming a young generation that is faithful, knowledgeable, and noble.

Abstract

This research analyzes how mise en scene, particularly setting, acting, and properties, reinforces narrative conflict in Hanung Bramantyo’s film Tuhan, Izinkan Aku Berdosa. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through repeated film observation, script analysis, documentation of key scenes, and interviews with the art director. Findings show that mise en scene elements such as narrow and dim pesantren spaces, symbolic properties like reports, phones, and hidden cameras, as well as the main actor’s emotional expressions, function as visual language that conveys tension and trauma. Properties are not mere complements but narrative triggers symbolizing oppression, manipulation, and resistance, while acting bridges the emotional depth of characters without relying on dialogue. The study concludes that mise en scene effectively intensifies both internal and external conflicts, demonstrating how Indonesian cinema communicates social and spiritual issues through visual storytelling.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the decline in students' learning outcomes in class X E, as evidenced by the average score of 31.88 in the odd semester examination of the 2024/2025 academic year for the History subject, as well as the use of conventional teaching methods which are considered boring. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of the Project Based Learning model on students' learning outcomes in class X E. The method used in this research was a Quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group, involving an experimental class (X E) and a control class (X F) with purposive sampling techniques, and the research sample consisted of 29 students. The results of the Mann Whitney U analysis showed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.017 < 0.05, thus the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected. Therefore, there is a significant influence of the Project Based Learning model on students' learning outcomes in the History subject in class X E At SMA Negeri 1 Sigi.

Abstract

This research applies hierarchical clustering to classify rice harvest periods in Subak Tabanan, Bali, using monthly harvest area data from 2020–2024. The objective is to identify seasonal patterns that can guide planting recommendations for local farmers. Data preprocessing involved standardization and transformation into numerical format suitable for clustering. The analysis focused on three clusters representing rainy season, transitional season, and dry season. The results indicate that most months fall within the rainy season cluster, while transitional months and a single dry month were distinctly identified. The silhouette score value shows moderate clustering performance, indicating that hierarchical clustering is capable of distinguishing planting seasons effectively. Visualization through dendrogram and distribution charts supported the identification of cluster groups. This study contributes to agricultural decision support systems, particularly in improving planting strategies and ensuring rice production sustainability in Subak Tabanan.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a Model for Assessment, Intervention, and Monitoring of Language Development for Children with Speech Delay (MAP-ASD) in West Jakarta. The high prevalence of speech delay (23.3%) and the lack of context-appropriate assessment instruments (87.5% of PAUDs do not have specific instruments) are the basis for the urgency of this research. Using the 4D model development approach (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), the study involved 15 children with speech delay and 15 PAUD teachers. Validation was carried out by three experts in the fields of child developmental psychology, learning assessment, and speech therapy. The results showed that the MAP-ASD has very good validity (CVI 0.97), high reliability (Kappa 0.77; ICC 0.81), and very good practicality (T-Score 67.7). Effectiveness testing demonstrated significant improvements in children's language skills following MAP-ASD-based intervention, with an average increase of 5 points (22.7%), highest in semantics (6 points) and lowest in syntax and pragmatics (4 points). Mild speech delay cases demonstrated the best response (26.9% improvement), while severe cases continued to show significant progress (20.0%). This model integrates a multilingual approach tailored to the West Jakarta context and links assessments with specific intervention recommendations. MAP-ASD significantly contributes to filling the gap in contextual assessment tools for speech delay in Indonesia, enabling early identification and appropriate interventions that improve the quality of inclusive education at the early childhood education (ECE) level
