Abstract

The issue of women is still a serious discourse for discussion, both about the identity, position and role, even to the character and intellect. This article discusses the theoryof education and emancipation of women in view of Abbas Mahmud al-‘Aqqad, anEgyptian thinker, poet, philosopher and journalist scholars in the late - 19th and early20th century. According to Him, women have equal footing with men in education and allsocial roles. But the natural differences between women and men demanding the divisionof different roles, so that the relationship of women and men should be a partnership.Conservative viewsof ‘ Aqqad theory based on the Koran, the Hadith and the researchon the female characters. This theory is in line with structuralist functionalist theory.Structuralist theory gravitate to sociology, while learning functionalist psychologicaltheory, but they have same conclusion, that the relationship of women and men is thepreservation of harmony, not competition. ‘Aqqad’stheory could be a solution to the issueof family crisis and child neglect that often occurs as a result of the division of the maritalpartnership roles are less than ideal.

Abstract

Purpose – The study aims to examine the impact of social media use on the mental health and spiritual intelligence of university students, with a focus on the Islamic educational context. It seeks to understand the dual influence of social media as a tool for information and communication and as a potential factor affecting students' mental and spiritual well-being. Design/methods/approach – Employing a quantitative, correlational method, the study analyzes primary data gathered from questionnaires completed by students of the Faculty of Islamic Religion (FAI) at Ibn Khaldun University Bogor. The approach includes descriptive tests, independent sample T-tests, and correlational analysis to evaluate the relationships among social media use, mental health, and spiritual intelligence. Findings – The study uncovers that students display moderate levels of social media addiction and mental health, with corresponding average scores of 34.9 and 34.7. Interestingly, spiritual intelligence is observed to be high, averaging 41.4. Significant differences in spiritual intelligence and mental health are found between FAI students and those from other faculties, suggesting the influence of a religious learning environment. Correlation analysis reveals that social media usage contributes minimally to variations in spiritual intelligence and mental health, pointing towards the significance of other influencing factors. Research implications – The results highlight the critical role of a spiritually nurturing academic setting in fostering student well-being. The moderate impact of social media on mental health and spiritual intelligence offers a gateway for educational institutions to develop digital literacy programs that encourage responsible social media usage. However, the study's design limits the ability to establish causal relationships, and its findings, specific to the UIKA student body, may not fully extend to other student populations or educational contexts. Future research could explore additional influencing factors, possibly through longitudinal studies, to enhance understanding of causality and broaden the applicability of findings across diverse educational settings.

Abstract

Purpose – This research aims to examine various aspects related to the implementation of the In-Service Teacher Professional Program (PPG) for Raudhatul Athfal teachers at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, including the program's administrative procedures, governance structure, program implementation, and the outcomes resulting from the program's implementation. Design/methods/approach – Conducted at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta in 2022, this study utilized a case study design. A mixed approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods was employed to analyze the management and implementation of the PPG for Raudhatul Athfal teachers. Research participants and respondents included program managers, partner lecturers, and program participants. Findings – The study reveals that the administration and governance of the In-Service PPG program were implemented efficiently and effectively, facilitated by information technology and cooperation among various government entities and educational institutions. The implementation of this program has shown improvements in participants' competencies, such as understanding early childhood education and developing teaching skills. The outputs from this program include competency development in designing and implementing appropriate learning for young children, involving parents, and integrating religious values. Research implications– The findings of this study underscore the importance of enhancing teachers' competencies and professionalism to improve education quality in Indonesia. However, certification programs like the In-Service PPG represent only one aspect of enhancing teacher professionalism; other necessary steps include post-certification quality assurance and continuous development for teachers. This study also highlights the significance of programs like the In-Service PPG in achieving these goals.

Abstract

Purpose – This study examines the impact of Ma'had al-Jāmi'ah in enhancing religiosity and building a religious culture at the Universitas Islam Negeri Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. It highlights the necessity for Islamic higher education institutions to balance academic excellence with the development of religious and moral values amidst the challenges of globalization, westernization, and radicalization. Design/methods/approach – This research employs an exploratory descriptive-qualitative design, focusing on Ma'had al-Jāmi'ah at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Data were collected through field research, including observations, in-depth interviews with students, lecturers, and administrative staff, as well as document analysis. Stark and Glock’s five dimensions of religiosity—belief, practice, knowledge, experience, and consequences—served as the analytical framework. Findings – The study found that Ma'had al-Jāmi'ah significantly enhances students' religious knowledge and practices, promoting a balanced integration of Islamic values and academic skills. This institution successfully fosters a religious culture through prescriptive measures and structured learning processes. However, challenges remain due to the diverse backgrounds and varying levels of religious understanding among students. Research implications – The findings suggest that Islamic higher education institutions must integrate religious education with the academic curriculum to foster holistic student development. Regular assessment and adaptation of religious education programs are necessary to maintain their relevance and effectiveness. These findings can guide policymakers and educators in developing comprehensive educational strategies that address contemporary challenges while upholding Islamic values.

Abstract

Purpose – This study investigates the influence of educational level, work experience, and work commitment on the quality of authentic leadership among elementary school principals in Surakarta. Given the initial findings indicating low levels of authentic leadership among these principals, the study seeks to fill a gap in the literature by exploring how these factors contribute to enhancing leadership quality in an educational context. Design/methods/approach – A correlational research design was employed to explore the relationships between the variables. The study sampled 110 principals from a population of 255 in Surakarta using cluster random sampling. Data were collected through validated and reliable questionnaires measuring work experience, work commitment, and authentic leadership quality, alongside the educational level of the principals. Data analysis included classical assumption tests and regression analysis to determine the significance of the relationships. Findings – The study found significant positive relationships between educational level, work experience, and work commitment with authentic leadership quality. Specifically, regression analysis revealed that higher education levels, greater work experience, and stronger work commitment positively influenced the quality of authentic leadership. These findings suggest that these factors are critical in developing authentic leadership in school settings. Research implications – This research contributes to the understanding of authentic leadership within educational management by identifying key factors that enhance leadership quality among school principals. It provides empirical evidence supporting the importance of formal education, practical experience, and commitment in cultivating effective and authentic leadership.
